care instructions | Soak seeds overnight in a jar or bowl of water for about 8 to 10 hours. After soaking drain out the water and rinse with fresh water. Drain out the fresh water so there are only wet seeds / sprouts and no standing water. At least twice each day, once in the AM and once in the PM, rinse and drain well making certain there is no standing water. Depending upon the seed type, they are ready to harvest in 2 to 5 days. | Water | — | Water | — | — |

I sprouted Alfalfa seeds twice. I was successful both times. The sprouts tasted great and fresh.
I sprouted broccoli seeds twice. It was very moldy and smelled terrible the first time. I threw it away. I treated the second batch with 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide. It worked better, there was a slight moldy smell. I stir fried them instead of eating them raw. I didn't get sick. I read that another reviewer couldn't get the broccoli seeds sprouted successfully, so maybe it's a bad batch.
I sprouted Clover seeds once. It was a success. The sprouts texture was similar to that of Alfalfa sprouts. They taste similar too. There was just a tiny bit of spiciness to it, almost undetectable.
I sprouted Daikon Radish once. It was a success and fresh tasting. However, the sprouts were super spicy; they were so spicy that tears welled up in my eyes. I brought them to a party and shared. Interestingly, people who eats spicy hot pepper all commented that they were spicy. People who like radish but find hot pepper too spicy like the sprouts. It's a different spiciness. It goes into the nose and eyes as well as into the throat.
I sprouted mung beans with another brand of organic mung beans I bought at a local Asian store. Both sprouted successfully. The seeds from The Sprout House produced better looking and slightly better tasting sprouts. The seeds from the local store were about the half price, yet the stems were thinner and the sprouts turned into a pinkish color on Day 4. I did give both of them a 20-minute bath on Day 3 or 4.
I sprouted Adzuki beans with another brand of organic Adzuki beans I bought at the same local Asian store I bought the Mung beans. The seeds from The Sprout House produced good quality sprouts with germination rate of 95% or more. The seeds from the local store only germinated about 5% and started to smell moldy after Day 4. The seeds that did sprout grew VERY slowly.
Both French Lentil and Green Pea produced good sprouts. I don't have any complaints.
There were many halves or quarters for the sunflower seeds. I picked them out and counted only 493 good seeds, about a half in volume. Those seeds did produce a good germination rate (>95%). However, I wish there were not so many broken pieces.
I haven't tried the Garbanzo or the Fenugreek seeds yet. I wish soybean seeds can be included in the packet and one of the Garbanzo or the Fenugreek seeds can be left out. Soybean sprouts are very popular among Asian people, only second to Mung bean sprouts. By the way, I just learned that Mung bean sprouts are the most widely consumed sprouts in the world.
Please note I used 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide (and diluted a capful into 8 oz) for all seeds except for the first time I sprouted Alfalfa seeds. I'm not sure whether the above dilution rate was ideal. Sometimes I could see white bubbles foaming for some seeds. I guess that sanitized the seeds somewhat.
I was a bit hesitant about the Alfalfa - that's horse food, right? - but it sprouted vigorously and tasted great. The clover sprouted well, but was not a favorite on flavor. The lentils, mung, and particularly the green peas will be staples in my kitchen. All in all, a very good range of products to try out.
Growing these has been SO EASY, and the germination rate seems to be at or very near 100%. I am not a very good gardener, but you really can't mess up sprouts.
I am still exploring my way through the variety, but so far sunflower and alfalfa are my favorites. I'm surprised at how different they've all been so far! And, 2oz of each variety is WAY more than it sounds! I won't have to buy seeds again for a very long time.
One minor thing, I do wish the seed bags were resealable. I'm using rubber bands to close up bags, but it's a bit of a pain.
