Growing Mimosa Pudica from flower seed is not difficult. It is recommend to soak the seeds 24 hours in water. Press the Mimosa Pudica seeds into the soil and lightly cover with 1/8 inch of soil. Keep the flower seed moist until germination. Covering the pot with clear plastic can help to hold in the moisture, but remove the plastic as soon as there is a sprout.
Sensitive plant may be propagated by seed indoors any time of the year. Seeds are quite tough, and should be nicked with a knife to help improve germination success. Seeds may also be placed in hot water and soaked overnight. Place seeds in a moist soil medium, cover with a light sprinkle of soil and place in a warm, bright location. Seeds generally take about a week to germinate, according to Guide to Houseplants.

I soaked the seeds overnight like it suggests, but I did not score them. I planted about 10 seeds each in 4 small pots, and covered them with plastic wrap, spraying the soil from a mister with water each morning and evening. I placed the pots on a porch that gets partial sun later in the day. I should mention I am in SW Florida and it is very hot right now. After only about 3 days, 2 of them had already sprouted. It’s now been 11 days, and so far that’s all I have. However, the two sprouts are delightful. I hope they thrive and continue to grow, and I plan to plant more of the seeds later. So, so far so good.
And THEN the thorns. These evil little plants have no business being anywhere where human skin might be. And the roots are so strong and deep that it took plyers to pull them out of my flower pots.
I only gave one star for giftability, but I am considering gifting the rest of the seeds to the obnoxious vacation rental around the corner (just kidding, I think).
My intent was to surprise and amuse the family with an exotic, odd plant. The laugh was was on me...since "makahiya" apparently grows like grass where my wife and stepkids were born. 🤦♂️
Oh, well. It's still the most successful crop in my AeroGarden, so far. Hoping it'll eventually give us some flowers!
Highly recommend these seeds. 🌱
