Product Description
This voltage converter transformer is highly efficient with step up/down conversion. This transformer device makes no noise while in use, a complete silent while in use and easy to use. Our voltage transformer is convenient solution to converting voltage from 220v to 110v converter (step-down) or from 110v to 220v converter (step-up) for both home & industrial applications. It features a heavy-duty cord with a standard US 3-prong plug. We do not recommend this product for high wattage heat producing items such as coffee maker, expresso machine and welding equipment etc.
For safety reasons, it's recommended to use a Voltage Converter/Transformer that's max watts is at least 2x higher than your appliance.
For example; this 1000 Watt transformer can be used only with an appliance that uses up to 450 Watts that is to prevent damage from the transformer itself and the appliance being used
ELC gives a wide variety of electronics equipment that allows to run high-end devices such as gaming consoles, hair dryer, hair straighteners, and many other types of devices. This product will let you operate US/Canadian appliances that are built to operate on 110/120v. Since the voltage conversion is 220/240v elsewhere, our accessories help you run devices with efficiency. It will not work with American 220 (Dual Phase, Not designed for US 220V)
This equipment has 1 x 110V Socket, 1 x Universal 220V Socket.

Update: I'm not sure how long it's been since I posted this review - almost a year? Has been running fine ever since. You're probably not supposed to run these 24/7, but I have been for it's entire life and everything I said still applies - works great, no heat, no sound, no weird smells, no problems. Highly recommend.

Anyways, I got this to power a server power supply for my mining rack, at least until I get around to installing a 220/240v line in my house. Right now I'm using a 1600w supply, so I grabbed a 3000w converter to make sure there was plenty of headroom. I could probably get away with adding another small supply to it, but I'm not trying to push it... yet.
I'll admit I was scared of burning my house down, but this was a breeze to set up. I spent a LOT of time looking at converters before picking this one; you don't want to get a cheap one that's crap quality, but you also don't want to pay a fortune. I've been using this a week and, honestly, it's been great. It doesn't get hot, in fact it doesn't even get warm. I have mine on top of a laptop cooling pad because I figured it'd be hot, but it's never even warm to the touch. It's also totally silent. I have it in a room with three computers running (and they aren't very loud) and I can't even tell this thing is on. I'm not sure if you'd be able to tell in a silent room, but even when I put my head near this thing I can't hear anything.
There's a switch on the back to pick your input voltage, so for the US that's set to 110v, and then a few plugs on the front for two different output cable types. I put my server PSU cable into the universal 220/240v female plug and everything just... worked. No sounds, no heat, no weird smells, nothing. It's been far, far easier than I'd expected. After a week of it running 24/7 I haven't had a single problem, and i don't expect to. If I do, I'll update this post.
The unit is actually pretty heavy for it's size; it's a nice, relatively compact form factor but it's definitely got some heft to it. In my eyes, that's a good thing; I want solid hardware handling the load, and that means weight. While I'm no expert, it seems to be very good quality - there were no dents or nicks, it was packaged nicely, and there's nothing on it where it looks like they obviously cheapest out somewhere. Everything is quality.
I'm really glad I picked this one. There were cheaper ones and more expensive ones. With this I didn't have to pay a fortune, and got something that's quality where I don't have to be constantly worrying about it 24/7. If you're also interested in running server PSUs/breakout boards for mining (or just need a step up/down converter for whatever else), this is a perfect choice.

I bought one with a USB power point on the front based on the premise that it might be newer than some of the others. The transformer was what I expected, but its smell surpassed what I expected. All of these transformers will emit some type of smell for a period owing to the materials employed.
I took the transformer outside and opened the case to allow it to air out for a few days, hopefully to let most of the smell dissipate. Inside I discovered a ground wire from the transformer that had part of its sheath exposed. When I moved the wire, it came loose from its connection. I fixed it but realized that the smell was not going away quickly enough. The seller's response to a photo and text query was to return it to Amazon. I hoped for a bit more concern, but that is how things go nowadays.
I wanted to avoid getting another typical transformer and stumbled across the ELC T-3000. What attracts me is the toroidal transformer. As noted elsewhere, toroidal transformers emit less of an inductive field, but more important, they take a little more effort to manufacture. Perhaps that would equal a slightly higher quality product.
This transformer surpasses all the others I have owned. The case is two-thirds the height of my 1500w one and weighs perhaps two-thirds less despite handling twice the wattage. My 1500w transformer is quiet, but the T-3000 is nearly silent. The T-3000 emits some smell, but it is a fraction of what the other transformers produce.
The T-3000 has the same two outlets on the front as any similar transformer. The circuit breaker is on the back rather than the front on my other transformer, something that I am beginning to like aesthetically. It fits into the kitchen decor less badly. The main power cable is by far the thickest of any transformer I have used. I do not think it is necessary, but I like the attempt at quality.
There are no documents, but once you see the back things become clear. Use the red switch to choose input voltage and that is all. There are what I assume are reset buttons on the back, but they are overkill if there is already a circuit breaker. Nice safety feature.
I was surprised that the T-3000 cost significantly less than the old-style transformer it replaced. That was a pleasant surprise, especially considering the T-3000 is better made. Bombay Electronics was absolutely tops to deal with, too. Excellent communication, packaging, and rapid shipment.
Treat these step-up/step-down transformers with due care. They do not change electrical frequency, are not intended to be run continuously, and current draw from your device might overload them, but for its intended purpose I find this unit a surprisingly nice change from the common.
If you notice in the photo, the cover extends slightly more than the sides. Three of the "wings" were bent in, likely due to the poor packaging.
The unit itself is not branded (no where is it marked ELC). It is labelled ST-5000T. I presume the "5000" means 5000 watts. I ordered the 1000W version. Not really sure what I received, though.
I planned to use the unit with a stereo amplifier but it hums when turned "on" so am turned off by this. Tried using it at my home in the US (120V) by stepping up to 240V and then using a step down transformer with the stereo amp and it appears to work. Haven't tried it with a 240V outlet yet. Based on all of this, I returned it.
