It took our kitty a couple of days to figure out how to use her Christmas present but now she scratches away on it nightly. It's so cute. We refer to her time spent with it as "playing us some jams"It is cardboard and lightweight so sometimes it slips and slides around while she's scratching it. Also, the cardboard pieces make a mess. She's had it about 2 months and the key art is no longer visible because she has scratched it off. But it's cute for the price. I would buy another one.
This is an excellent first synthesizer for a cat, but there are a few improvements I would like to suggest.
It would be better with MIDI or at least CV sync. The cat just has to play along by ear, and that is kind of hit and miss. Either the cat has poor rhythm, or he simply does not care what tempo I am playing at and expects me to match him. Ever try to get a cat to play along with a click track? Much better if say, it had a built in arpeggiator, allowing the signal to stay in time while the cat just selected the root notes for the cord.
More outputs (unit has zero audio outs) would be helpful for attaching this to outboard effects units; the included reverb/delay/flanger unit is simply not powerful enough - there's basically no effects at all included with the unit. I'm hoping this company releases a cat scratcher over drive pedal, so the cat could get that classic screaming monosynth sound. Of course, that brings up the questions of this synth's knobs or lack thereof. Not that those knobs would have much effect as there is no filter.

This "keyboard cat" scratcher popped up while I was looking at the DJ Scratcher. How can you say no to making your own cat Keyboard Cat? This one proved very popular with my parents' cat, but less so with mine. Theirs loves cardboard scratchers so she was in heaven when I left this behind for her amusement. It's a standard, rectangular scratch board with black ink to make the ebony keys. Don't be disappointed that it's not super fancy. It works perfectly for the cute photo
Doesn't last as long as a corrugated scratcher you can pick up from a discount store, but it's very cute. I'm glad I got it for a Rock Band-themed Christmas gift, but I'll replace it with a more generic one once this one's shredded. So far it's lasted a month, and I expect it still has a few weeks of use left. I'm used to the plainer ones lasting at least 6 months.
