Great addition to school study games!
As a home school teacher, I am always looking for ways to make learning more fun and memorable. As a result, every now and then I will create a game for my kids or for a co-op class. This last school year, I taught a grammar co-op class to high school students. Grammar requires a lot of rule memorization and can be very dry. Therefore, in order to help my students prepare for their quarterly tests, I created a grammar game. Students would draw question cards I created and if they could answer the question, they got to keep the card. I also included some silly cards to make the game fun. At the end of the game, whoever had the most cards, won. I discovered after the first round of playing this game, some of the students guessed and hesitated for seemingly forever. This really dragged the game down. As a result, I started using a timer. The timer was awkward because it was a pain to set each question. Then I found and purchased the Foxnovo Sand Timers. These timers provided a great solution because I could use different timers depending on the complexity of the question. We were also able to add a “stealing” component to the game where one student could steal a question if the first student did not answer on time. The second student would be given half the time to answer as the first.WHAT IS IN THE BOX: 6 color coded timers in the following increments: 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes, 5 minutes and 10 minutes. They are made from light-weight plastic.WHAT I LIKE: Having the ability to time questions in our school game made it much more fun! The kids were much more engaged and paid closer attention since they had the opportunity to “steal” cards from unsuccessful opponents. In a game situation, sand timers are a much better visual way for tracking time than an electronic timer that can only be viewed from one side.Setting a sand timer is instant, only requiring it to be turned over. Electronic timers are much more complicated. The broad range of timers in this set gave us plenty of options for picking times specific to the situation of each question. I loved having that option! I love options. These timers are clearly marked with their time.We have been using these timers for half of the school year and they have held up well.WHAT I DON’T LIKE: On rare occasion, the sand will get stuck in a timer.PICTURES: I am including a picture of these timers in my hand for size reference as well as one from the top which demonstrates how each timer is marked.I purchased the Foxnovo Sand Timers at FULL PRICE and am reviewing them of my own accord.

We got these to help my incredibly slow kids. They like to challenge themselves to beat the timer and this gives them complete control over it instead of me always having to set an electronic timer. They also use it when taking turns. I love the fact that there are so many different options for timing, from thirty seconds to ten minutes. My boys have used these to help them practice addition and it gives them so much choice with which timer is appropriate for the occasion they need it for it. The different colors are also nice and so is the fact that the time is written on top of each timer. They are so easy for my five and six year old to use on their own in so many different ways.

I ordered these for my classroom. As a special education teacher I use timers for a number of reasons. I ordered this set specifically for the 2 minute and 3 minute timers and unfortunately right out of the package the 3 minute timer didn't work.

Update:
This company was upset to see that I was dissatisfied with my purchase. They offered a full refund or immediate replacement of the item. I chose to receive a replacement and it arrived quickly and was fully functional. I'm sure things are manufactured and will sometimes have flaws but it was nice to see that a company cared so much that they were willing to satisfy the customer and offered a choice as well. The second set works well and my students love the colors! I would recommend using this company and will look for products that they offer in the future.

After seeing my review, the seller contacted me and offered a full refund for the damaged hourglass and said they would be speaking to their distributor to see about the accuracy of the hourglasses. Fantastic customer service. I will try to order though them again if I need something.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I would absolutely NOT suggest using these for anything where accurate timing is absolutely necessary but these will definitely do the job for me.

I'm going to use them to keep the flow of combat/adventure going in D&D and to help my kids stay on task and keep track of time while doing chores.

The 30 second timer's internal glass was cracked and the sand spilled all over the insides. It sucks that I'm missing a piece but at least I didn't have to clean up a mess on top of it.

They are cute and our 2 year old thought they were fun. However, they are a little too fragile for unsupervised toddler use. Ours broke a few of them (granted, he was abusing them). The plastic sleeve did contain the glass, but I'm glad we were able to take it from him quickly once they broke. He still thinks they are neat, but we only let him play with them when we are watching- they don't stay wiht the toys anymore. For older kids they are probably great.

Update: After writing essentially the same review as above, but perhaps slightly more negative, the seller offered us a refund. I don't want a refund- I don't regret the purchase. However, it does indicate that they are responsive to amazon reviews.

I love these timers. Our occupational therapist recommended this for my son since he has trouble transitioning from one activity to the next, she said that some children do really well, when they have a visual to refer to. They are sturdy and fun to use. One recommendation I would make would be to add a 30 minute one. Most of the activities we do last 20-30 minutes at this age, so its a bit repetitive to have to use the 10 minute one over and over again. Other than that, they are a great tool and fun to use.

I ordered these hoping that the 5 or 10 minute would help me negotiate with my toddler to get him out of the bath. What I didn't realize is that he would enjoy them so much he took them to show and tell at his school. This timers are great for setting expectations for:
- when bath time will end
- counting down to lights out
- time out
- tooth brushing
- when the TV, tablet or other screen time ends
- etc.
