Cleaning The Podium Bottles

Cleaning The Podium Bottles
These are my favorite bottles for cycling and everyday water consumption. Ive been using them for years and have never had issues with leaking, sucking, bad water taste or fitting in a standard bottle cage. Currently I have 2 Weil CF cages and the bottles ffit perfectly. This is probably my 8th set that I have purchased. Im posting this to show others how to clean the top part. If you use anything other than water in them (especially with sugar content) they will get nasty pretty quick if not kept clean. Even with only water use they can tend to get moldy over time, especially in humid climates. The molded rubber piece can be pulled off the top part of the bottle cap. Once you pull it off you will see that there is a plastic insert that goes into the rubber piece. Pull this out to clean it. It takes a little bit of 'rolling' the plastic piece to seperate it from the rubber top. Once you do it youll see what I mean. It gets easy once you get the hang of it.If the pieces are moldy, sometimes it tends to collect under the 4 slotted spaces in the plastic insert. You can usually use a toothpick or small pointy object to clean the crud out of this area. If you need a real good cleaning let them sit in vinegar over night and it makes it easier to rinse everything out.Make sure you dont lose the small o-ring on the bottom of the plastic insert. That needs to be snugged up tight on the insert before you slip it back into the rubber molded piece.Once you cleaned the insert and rubber piece slip the insert back into the rubber. Make sure its correctly seated, the cylindrical tube should be pointed straight down. Then you have to work the rubber piece (with insert) back onto the top of the bottle. Roll it around to make sure it seats correctly. When the bottles are new it can take a little bit of work to get it seated correctly.Doing this regularly will keep the top rubber drinking valve clean and good to use for a few years.Ive attached some pictures for reference. Great bottles.

This water bottle is the perfect size (21oz) for every activity! I use it in the office to stay hydrated during the day as well as keep it in my boat while rowing. It is lightweight, well insulated, and easy to grab, grip, and squirt one-handed. It's fantastic that even if you have it unlocked, it won't leak water. The only minute "problems" I've noticed if you even call them problems is that sometimes it rings/makes noises, assuming because it's so airtight. The other thing I've noticed is that some of "paint" on the outside of the bottle has rubbed away from constant use. It's where my thumb usually grips it, and the grey part of the streak has rubbed off a little. I absolutely love the turquoise color too, it's just so pretty yet sutle. But again, this isn't important to me. Highly recommended for either sports use or just lounging around the house!

I've been using these for a couple of months now and I can confidently say that this is the best water bottle that I've ever used. Granted, my previous experiences have all been with non-insulated or cheap insulated bottles that have nowhere near as good at keeping water cold.

In my experience, they've kept ice for 2+ hours in 95 degree Georgia heat. They keep water cold for about another hour. There's a lot of debate on the best way to fill them, but I've found that filling them with cubes and add water from the refrigerator to the cubes works best for me. No pre-freezing necessary.

Even when set to "open," they do not leak whatsoever. They are easy to handle on the bike, though the nozzle took a tiny bit of getting used to. I've taken them apart once and they seem to clean up easily enough, so no complaints there. It's a little bit early to talk about durability, but I can't really see anything on these failing anytime soon.

Love camelback bottles, why use throw away thin plastic, when these carry in a bag , bike, cooler, and are reusable if I use a pair daily , they typically last me over a year! So a Years worth of no Plastic Throw away bottles, + I like these bottles , they seal perfect, they do Not leak ! squeeze to drink, they do have a high flo cap that flows really fast , but the normal one is awesome , comes apart , bleach, or dishwasher safe! Can't beat em, I'll buy these about every year and a half , to keep bottles looking new ! & a year of hard daily use they don't look bad if cleaned regularly and just clean the clear squirt tip out , lil bleach & soak , voila !  CamelBak Podium Chill Insulated Water Bottle, 21 oz, Sprint Green

I've gotten 5 of these in the past year, because I keep loosing them. They've all been of the same (great) quality, and the jet valve is..well..awesome! I can lock out my bottles, leave them in a backpack, and not need to worry about my laptop getting wet. While riding, if I do forget to lock them, they sometimes spray me when I land big jumps (I ride enduro, with a preference toward downhill). Other than that, I've never had issues with leaking or anything of that nature.

I find that once a month I have to fill them with soapy water and bleach and leave them for a few days, then machine wash them. They come out nicely after doing that. (Just 1 cap full of bleach, and the rest soapy water). They go moldy after using them for 2-3 months, or leaving still water in them for more than a few days. Overall, their practicality on the trail makes it worth the (relatively) high maintenance. I will say that it's best to have 2 or 3 of them, and keep 2 on your bike when you go out riding.

As far as keeping things cold, I froze one just to see what would happen. It took 2 days (in the California winter) to thaw completely.

Also, if you're looking to avoid cancer, these are BPA free, meaning they won't introduce poisonous cancer-causing residue into your body!

I already have two Camelbak 70oz Rogue hydration pack for the wife and I. Sometimes it is too much firepower for an hour ride for exercise and it can be a pain to clean. The 25 oz and 21 oz are the perfect size to keep us hydrated in the 95-100 degree heat in the southwest. I usually fill the bottle with ice/water before the ride. The ice is almost melted and the water is still cool by the time I need to hydrate 30-60 minutes later. My old water bottle would already be same outdoor temps by this time. Hard to cool your core if you drinking hot water.

I like the power squirt feature to quickly fill you mouth to rinse/spit or drink. Easy to squirt over your head on those really hot days. The softer sides make it easy to control the amount of water you squirt into your mouth. No more biting the top to open/close the water valve like my old bottle with the Camelbak nozzle. I haven't had any issues with the top spilling when unlocked during the ride. The bottles fit in our cheap $3 bike bottle holders very well with zero chance of bouncing out. I haven't had any issues with plastic taste with this bottle. Since it holds ice a lot longer, no need to freeze 1/2 full of water the night before. Not planning on using this bottle for anything other than water to keep it fresh as possible for the long term.

I've been using this as my default water bottle on rides and I love the twist spout because it never fails. With the other type of spout that you pull up to activate I have found that when the bottle gets older that type of spout becomes loose and tends to close on it's own, which is problematic enough that it prompts me to replace my bottles. This twist spout been a lot more reliable for me. As far as the insulation, for me in super hot South Florida it keeps liquids cool for about 2 hours. That's typically enough for most of my rides, and if not I pair it with a metal insulated bottle which will keep liquids cool for longer, but is not as convenient to drink from while riding because of course you can't squeeze the bottle. So yeah, thumbs up for this product. The main plus for me is the spout. If I had to list a negative it would be that the spout requires both hands to active, while the pull type spouts can be activated with one hand or using your mouth to bite and pull on the spout. This is not a big deal for me since I open the 'flow' before going on a ride, but it might be for you. Keep riding!
