Product Description

An innovative electric conversion kit for single battery AA clocks or other single AA driven items. The conversion is achieved by an external AC to DC power supply simultaneously powering and trickle charging an internal NiMH Battery. The NiMH battery produces 1.0 to 1.3V, which is sufficient to power devices requiring 1.5V. In the case of a power loss, the converter will act as a power back up and immediately switch to the NiMH battery. Once power is restored, the clock automatically switches back to electric and then re-charges the NiMH for the next outage. The fully charged NiMH battery can last for up to 3 weeks.

65 customers mention26 positive39 negative

Customers are mixed about the performance of the transformer. Some mention that it works amazingly to convert a single AA battery operated wall clock to a 4.5v AAA model, while others say that it doesn't work at all, fails consistently, and is useless for constant-on application.

"...Unfortunately, it doesn't work very well. I found myself resetting the clock more often than when I was using standard batteries...." Read more

"...I use the two that I own on two different AA wall clocks. It works great. If you lose power, the clock continues to keep time...." Read more

"...It looks like this device does function after all, but it may not power large wall clocks or devices that are more power hungry...." Read more

"Works exactly as described. I use it for a wall clock. Wall clocks now a days all use cheap battery motors. I kept having to change the battery...." Read more

25 customers mention13 positive12 negative

Customers are mixed about the quality of the battery. Some mention that it's been keeping the clock running fine since last Winter, and doesn't appear to lose time. However, others say that it’s very flimsy and doesn’t keep time, with poor construction and not much strength.

"...It works great. If you lose power, the clock continues to keep time. And the battery never goes dead. Best of both worlds...." Read more

"...Battery was reassembled and taped.Great idea, just poor construction." Read more

"...it doesn't put out 1.5V or 1.6V like a new AA battery, it's sufficient to run our clock. No more nuisance battery replacements." Read more

"This worked initially, but was losing over a minute each day, then it was losing an hour each day...." Read more

17 customers mention8 positive9 negative

Customers are mixed about the battery life of the transformer. Some mention that it saves changing batteries, and the battery never goes dead. However, others say that it only produces 1.0 volts and is not enough to power either of their clock movements adequately.

"This battery only produces 1.0 volts. It needs to produce 1.5 volts to replace a AA battery...." Read more

"...If you lose power, the clock continues to keep time. And the battery never goes dead. Best of both worlds...." Read more

"...They produce only 1.32dc. This was not enough voltage to power either of my clock movements adequately. A new AA battery produces about 1.6 volts...." Read more

"...No more nuisance battery replacements." Read more

3 customers mention0 positive3 negative

Customers are dissatisfied with the durability of the transformer. They mention that the battery case came apart, the parts were completely disassembled, and the transformer arrived in pieces.

"The battery case came apart. Battery was reassembled and taped.Great idea, just poor construction." Read more

No more climbing the ladder!

No more climbing the ladder!
In my kitchen over the cabinets I have a large decorative clock that runs on a single 1.5 vdc dry cell. Twice a year when Daylight Saving Time kicks in and out, I have to climb a ladder, bring the clock down, change the time, climb the ladder again and put it back up on the top of the soffit. At 78 years old, I have no business on a ladder lugging a large clock. The clock kept moderately good time, although when it came time to change it again, it was always fast by about 5 minutes.I decided to buy an atomic clock so that the time shown would be absolutely correct and would change over automatically. But, I was still going to have to change batteries every so often. So, I bought this 110 vac to 1.5 vdc converter. Price was great at about $7.00.I also bought a roll of FRANKEVER-Adhesive-Conductor-Electrical-Connectors with terminals. (Also available on Amazon). That way, I could avoid having a stark black wire running from the socket atop the cabinet up the wall. I cut the converter output wire, soldered in the flat wire and then laced the upper black wire around the clock support bracket so that it's hidden. The clock picks up the signal from WWV and keeps time perfectly automatically changing with DST. If power drops out, it resets. With the converter, I no longer have to change batteries.Hooray! No more climbing ladders!
