After a couple of days of use, I am in the camp of those that find little to complain about regarding this Kindle Paperwhite leather cover.
Pros:
Leather: Genuine leather is much nicer to feel and smell than synthetic alternatives.
The leather’s surface is such that it picks up scratches, etc. from normal use. I like this feature, as the cover develops character over time. The marks are superficial - they don’t appear to degrade the structural integrity of the case.
Fit/Finish: As expected, it fits like a glove. No rough edges, and I think it feels “rich” and that it conveys quality.
Appearance: Looks great! It doesn’t appear out of place next time my wallet and briefcase I purchased from a high quality, boutique leather crafter.
Cons:
Price: I guess you could grumble about the price point. Sure, I would have liked to pay $10 less, but such is life. I don’t think it is a bargain, but based on my experience with it so far, I have no regrets and don’t feel as though I overpaid for what I received.
Color: The color IS a bit darker than the online photos, but the dark brown is rich and almost perfectly matches my wallet and briefcase. I am happy with the color.
When I unboxed it, I immediately, accidentally scratched the leather and my patina adventure had begun! But that is part of the product power and it looks good after a couple weeks of getting handed around, dropped on the counter/table/etc.
The Kindle was a gift intended to be used by/in the pool, so I do take it out of the leather case when I'm in the water with it. It's probably been in and out of the case 6-10 times, I haven't counted but there is no noticeable effect on the plastic component of the cover. It's also just tough enough to get out of the case to reinforce the mindset that the Kindle is firmly rooted in the case when it's in use.
I like it, would buy again, and had originally considered "maybe I should look for a waterproof one" but now that seems like a bad idea since care and handling instructions for the Kindle say that it should be wiped down/cleaned when exposed to salt/chlorine (read: pool water). I'm fairly certain I wouldn't be bothered to do that if it was in an amphibious case...
