The solar panel quit working after a few weeks. The seller contacted me and sent me a replacement. The replacement has been working fine, so I have updated my rating. So I'm happy with this again.
I got this solar panel for my ring video doorbell 2. The power cable from the panel is a normal round cable until the last few inches, then it turns into a very thin flat cable with a micro USB connector at the end so you can plug it into the battery and then run the cable down past the battery.
My camera was already mounted firmly to the wall so instead of running the cable back through the mounting, I shaved a small amount of plastic off of the bottom of the battery cover and just had the power cable exit straight down. It doesn't look as nice as it would if I followed the included instructions but it took me very little time since I didn't have to dismount and re-mount the entire camera. The included panel mounting is ok. not super awesome and I found it somewhat awkward to get tightened enough so that the panel doesn't rotate when the wind hits it, but it did the job. If the panel rotates during bad weather, it will be simple enough to just rotate it back where it belongs.
As for performance, the panel charges up the internal battery better than I expected. Because of how my house is built, I can only get the panel full sunlight in the morning. It added about 10% of charge per hour for the 3-4 hours that it is in direct sunlight, and then trickled in another couple of percent for the remainder of the day. The battery started out at about 20% when I installed the solar panel in mid-morning (so it only had about 2-3 hours of direct sunlight that day) and when I checked it the next morning, it was at 60%. So within 2-3 days it will have a full charge and should keep that full charge even if the solar panel loses efficiency over time since the ring doorbell only uses 2-5% battery per day and on partial sunlight the way I installed it charges over 30% per day.
I recommend this kit. It is a nice solution to a design flaw (or missing feature) in the ring doorbell system. The price is great compared to Ring's ineffective doorbell mounting solar power accessory and it works much much better. The only downside is that you have to mount the panel and run the cable in a way that doesn't look awful, but with a little creativity the cable can be hidden and the panel can be mounted in a way that doesn't look bad. Ring should have come up with a better solar accessory themselves so until or unless they do, this one works great.
The installation was super easy. The cable is only 12 feet which really isn't that long so plan accordingly. The mounts included are only for mounting on the wall, not for spiking on the dirty or something like that. I bought some mounting screws so that I can nicely fit the cable around my door frame. I was fortunate to find a spot that was hidden somewhat and in direct sunlight.
The first day, the solar panel did no charge my battery from 45% to 100%, it stopped at 65%. I put the battery to my wall charger and go it to 100%. After that I plugged it back into the RING 2 and the solar panel has kept it at 100% for about 5 days now. What I did notice, was that the micro USB of the solar charger is flimsy, so I have to wiggle it until both the green and orange light on the battery turn on FULLY, before inserting the battery to the RING 2. If the lights aren't full light green and orange, then the solar panel isn't charging at optimal charge. I noticed that even on a gloomy day or rainy day, the solar panel can still maintain the battery at 100% despite me watching 5 mins of video live stream.
I do recommend this, since it now does not need to be plugged into the wall charger again. I just think the installer needs to realize that this is a flimsy build, and thus must be gentle when installing it, and plugging in the Micro USB to the battery. Patience and trial-and-error will make this a great installation for your home.

The seller was courteous enough to send me a replacement. However it still did not work. I was beginning to think it was my battery so I recently bought a new ring brand battery and still this solar panel has shown no results. The lights indicate that it’s charging but it’s actually not. I have this where it gets bright sunlight. I’ve had it plugged in for months thinking maybe the change in seasons will help but nothing has worked.

I mounted the panel on the front of my house, ran the cable over to the doorbell, popped out the battery, hooked it up, and then re-inserted the battery carefully. Mind, it's a tighter fit with the cable there, and in order to make it "tidy" I folded the cable over, tucking it up behind the battery, but it absolutely works.
My first foray into Ring v2 solar was the "official" panel that surrounds the doorbell. My door trim simply isn't wide enough to accommodate that monster, so I returned it. My next attempt was a competing panel that hooked up to the screw terminals inside, similar to how you'd connect a wired doorbell. It supplied a tiny amount of power, never really did much beyond very slightly slowing the battery drain time. This solution was my 3rd and final try, and has worked great. I've had installed for about 9 months now, and the battery stays full. Can't argue with that.
Installation was relatively easy - the small USB plastic piece that goes into the battery seemed a bit fragile - so be careful when inserting it in the battery. Other than that, the most time consuming part was tacking up the cord that goes to the solar panel.
It was cloudy on the day of installation and both batteries were at 90%. The next day when I checked the battery status it had gone up to 100% (both panels are in direct sun). Seems to be working so far!

In una giornata la batteria è stata caricata di circa 7%
Firstly I am a big user or Ring devices, originally I had the Ring 1 doorbell, then upgraded to the Ring 2, I also have the spotlight cam with solar panel.
My reason for upgrading to Ring 2, was to overcome the necessity of having to remove the doorbell from its mount to charge the internal battery (which can't be swapped out on the Ring 1).
When I had my Ring 2 working perfectly (long story on that too), I was happy to be able to swap out batteries when needed and had even bought a few spare batteries to make the process easier, swapping batteries is easy, but it still had to be done, then I saw that Ring had developed solar chargers for both Ring 1 and Ring 2 doorbells, and since I was using the Ring 2, I ordered mine directly from Ring.
It was shipped from their warehouse in Germany, in about 5 days it was safely delivered, so I set about fitting it up, my battery was at 80% at the time so I was looking forward to seeing it charge up slowly, however after 36 hours, I had not seen any difference in the battery level, so contacted support.
Over the course of the week, I made constant calls with Ring, rebooted my doorbell repeatedly, reapplied firmware updates, finally their technician reported that my official Ring 2 Solar Charger was not even supplying power to my doorbell, at this point my battery was down to 65% so they kindly ordered a replacement (FOC) on condition I returned the original to them as soon as the new one arrived - which was promptly done. As soon as the new one was fitted I again waited to see the battery start to charge, however 7 days later, it had dropped to somewhere about 45-55%.
More calls and the following information was given to me:
1) It has to be in direct sunlight to function properly.
2) You should see about 8-10% power to the battery daily.
When I explained my doorbell was not in direct sunlight, they stated it should still get some power, and averaged it to be about 3-5%. However clearly this wasnt happening.
If you look at the images I have uploaded, you can see from the doorbell image the panels are over the top, and down both sides, the fitting is seamless and the doorbell fits flush to the solar panel, however as my doorbell is not in direct sunlight for 90% of the day, and the drainpip to the right is obscuring the right hand panel, its clear the panel is getting insufficient sun to charge the battery. (The drainpipe will be relocated soon to assist).
This Solar Panel - Very efficient.
However after spending 2-3 weeks trying to resolve this and just after my replacement arrived, I decided to order this Solar Panel for the Ring 2 as a back up option. I have alas given up on trying to get the official one to work, but I am leaving it there (As it connects to the two terminals on the back of the doorbell used for a transformer).
Today I fitted this one - the battery at this point was 93% (I had replaced it a week ago with a full charged battery), as I was leaving the official one in place, it is possible to connect this one as well as it uses a micro USB which plugs into the battery itself, due to the fact the battery USB and the connection from the battery to the doorbell contacts are both at the same end, the flat micro-thin cable has to be run down the back of the battery and come out at the bottom of the doorbell. There is plenty of the flat cable with micro-usb to do this and once it has been connected to the battery and the cover put back on with the security bolt, you can then run the remaining flat cable and the normal cable behind the doorbell (solar panel as well - although it doesnt sit as flush on the wall but its still possible to do) and run the cable up wards to the roof. You can see from my other picture where I put the alternative" solar panel from this kit, and fitting it was easy, I was really pleased to see that in TWO minutes the battery had gone from 93% to 100%! - Amazing!
This kit definately works, and if you have no luck with the official solar charger this works perfectly, I am sure the official one works, but not everyones house has their doorbell in direct sunlight or in my case has part of the panel obscured by the drainpipe, this kit will definately charge the battery, and also if you do need to change the battery when it "wears out" it is easily possible as you just release the existing battery, unplug the mico-usb, plug into a new battery and then it fit it back in again. It also charges very quickly, as it went from 93% to 100% in about 2 minutes, so it would be interesting to see how long it takes to charge a battery with 0% power.
Highly recommended as an alternative to the official solar charging device.

Busy location so I was changing the ring battery every week.
Now it recharged battery from 60% back to 100%.
This is the height of summer and the best light we will get but that’s 10 time I have not had to swap the battery out, so far.
I think I may need to swap the battery once or twice in the winter but that shouldn’t be too much of a chore as opposed to 52 x a year!
I did cut a notch out of the bottom of the back panel that is fixed to wall. This allowed enough space for the cable at the bottom.
