From the manufacturer

How It's Made

Our beloved Bundts are produced with lots of hand touch and care, ensuring that they will last for a lifetime. We've perfected this process over the past seven decades--there is a lot of science behind created the best Bundts on earth! At the die casting facility, molten aluminum at temperatures of over 1200 degrees F is ladled into a chamber where an arm rapidly pushes the liquid aluminum into the die (mold). This takes place in a fraction of a second, and the aluminum solidifies as it hits the cooler mold. The two halves of the mold open up, releasing a very hot but solid aluminum Bundt pan.

The pans have razor sharp 'flash', or left over aluminum, that is protruding from the perimeter of each pan. The flash is trimmed to a rough perimeter before the pans are sent to our main processing facility. There, they undergo a series of secondary finishing processes, including vibratory deburring in a chamber of ceramic pebble, shot blasting with stainless media to 'roughen' the parts, and a perimeter routing in a CNC machine to smooth the edges and trim out handles. Next, they are thoroughly washed, and then sent to coatings to be sprayed and cured with PFOA-free premium nonstick. By the time a Bundt pan has left our factory, it has been touched by nearly two dozen sets of hands, ensure that you're receiving the best Bundt pan in the world.

Our Story

Nordic Ware was founded in 1946 by a determined wife, Dotty, and her resourceful husband Dave, newly back from the second world war. With only $500 in their pockets, a few good ideas and a desire to create a business of their own, a humble kitchenware company was launched from the basement of their home in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In the beginning, Nordic Ware’s product line was only a handful of items, all of which were specialty Scandinavian ethnic cookware products. But times have changed! 70 years later with a good measure of perseverance added, Nordic Ware is still proudly manufacturing the vast majority of its products in Minneapolis. We’re proud to say that we’re still family-owned and operated, with three generations involved in our business, and each year we add innovative items to our expansive kitchenware line.

70 Years of Innovation

With wife Dotty at his side, Dave Dalquist returned from WWII to start a business. From humble beginnings in a basement, Nordic Ware has become an internationally distributed kitchenware brand with a variety of product lines, hundreds of products and millions of fans!

Still a family owned and operated in the US, the company is honored to occupy a place in the new Food History exhibit at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Last fall, Nordic Ware was chosen for the prestigious 2015 Minnesota Manufacturing Award for Sustainability, which firms we work hard to minimize our environmental footprint. Our company moves into 2016 poised for the future, with last year setting an all-time record in sales volume and production efficiency.

This is the third Nordic Ware pan that I have bought. It is the smallest of the bunch. The pan is a basic hexagon shape with six molds. Each mold has a width and length dimensions of roughly 2.5 inches. The depth of each mold is about 1 1/8th inch. The side to side dimensions of the pan are roughly 9 inches by 9 inches. This is a small pan. If you are doing a batch of brownies, you will either need two or three of these to bake all the batter at once or reuse the same pan multiple times.

At the price the cost of multiple pans may be more than you are willing to part with. Storage space is another consideration, if you have a small kitchen like I do. I use my other Nordic Ware pans to use up a recipe rather than fooling with cooling, washing, and preparing a single pan.

All of the pans that I have - Backyard Bugs (14 ½ x 11 ¼ x 1 3/8), Maple Leaf, and Harvest Mini Loaf (9 3/8ths x 9 x 1 5/8ths end tabs excluded) - have the same quality construction. Although the coloration of a couple of the pans vary, all pans deliver excellent details in the finished product. Blue berry muffins release easily from the forms. Cleaning is relatively easy. However, you need to use a toothpick on occasion to remove minor amounts of residual batter. A sponge removes what little batter is remains otherwise.

I have baked blue berry muffins, ginger bread, and rolls in these pans. The designs are not well detailed in finished product when I made rolls. I have not tried watering down the dough recipe to better fill the design cavities.

I spray the pan cavities with cooking oil. Generally, I use a flour based spray. I have not tried the Crisco/flour method that I use when making bread or cakes. The complexity and detail of the form designs make using a spray on oil the most effective least time consuming process of ensuring that the finished product easily releases from the forms. I have never tried skipping the spray-on process, so I can't attest to the effectiveness of the non-stick surfaces of the various forms.

A point that you might consider is. The finished items have great designs, but if you put icing over them the surface designs will disappear. Consider dusting with powdered confectionery sugar, if you want the top design to be visible. The designs can be used quite effectively as templates, if you want to spend the time decorating the tops with various color icings. The latter is quite time consuming, so it is best left to special occasions.

If you don't care about the surface design details, you can get similar results using standard pans and cookie cutters.

I bake for me and my girlfriend rather than for our children or grandchildren. The designs are esthetically pleasing. It is a nice change from the more mundane sheet cake or cup cake pans.

The pans are heavy gage material. They provide even heating and consistent baking time for all designs in the above pans even though some cavities have considerably more batter in them and varying depths, as is the case with the various bugs in the Backyard Bug pan.

I have never had any of these pans burn any edges in any cavity. Over cooking results in dryer finished products. I prefer more moisture in my small cakes. I avoid over cooking by simply testing the doneness with a long tooth pick.

Makes 6 regular size muffins and the leaf design is on the bottom of the muffin, so I just serve them upside down - Very cute as we enter into autumn. I sprayed the tin with non stick cooking spray and used a package of Martha White muffin mix, which filled each leaf a little more than 2/3, and baked for the shortest time on the directions and they were plenty done. Glad I made this purchase, I love Nordic ware pans!

This is a good quality cook pan, but it is so small, it disappointed me a lot.
The school needed some projects for baking sell, I got this, then every time I baked this, I only got six little leaves, the pan's size is little bit bigger than a man's hand, no kidding.I had to bake every 10 to 15 minutes to get 6 leaves, the whole oven worked only for 6 leaves, it was kind of time consuming and waste.
For this much money around $26, you can find it from outlet for double size pan, same quality.

Beautiful pan. I'm so glad I purchased this pan. Just make sure you take care of it; no dishwasher, no harsh soaps, no harsh scrubbing. Use some form of pan release, butter/flower mixture prior to adding your batter or it will stick and the beautiful design will be left in the pan.

This is the second maple leaf pan I've ordered. Both came from 2 different websites, both have the same issues. Not first quality at all. Excessive drip marks from the non-stick coating and the edges of the pans have rough spots down to the metal... like something has been chewing on them. I don't mind paying premium price as long as the product is 1st quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well made, durable finish.

This is a great little muffin/cupcake pan. Just be warned, the recipe that comes with it will fill 7 of these pans, so either cut the recipe down to suit, or have additional muffin/cupcake pans ready to take the excess batter, I made a bundt cake with the rest. (The recipe, as written, make 7 cups of batter.)
I used Wilton Cake Release; and cocoa powder in place of flour to prepare the pan. The cakes came out fairly easily. I did notice a few small corners on a couple of cakes that were missing. The maple cakelette recipe is tasty, but is more of a coffee cake, or pancake flavour. I will try a sturdier/firmer muffin recipe for the next trial, as I would like to be able to see the detail a little better. I did NOT make the frosting recipe, as the cakes are sweet enough without it.
UPDATE: I recently made bran muffins with this pan (along with others) and they turned out perfectly. :)
