Useful, but you have to sand the rough ends first.
Wish I'd had these blocking wires the last time I blocked a scarf. I know they will be useful. The reason I gave this product 3 stars instead of 5 is because like many other reviewers have said, the ends of these wires have burrs from when cut to length during the manufacturing process. This forced me to spend 45 minutes sanding off the burrs to avoid snagging my yarn as I thread them through my knitted items. Then, I spent even more time (to ensure smooth threading) to add a tiny protective bead at the tip of each wire: Dipped the end of the wire in clear fingernail polish, letting most of it run back into the bottle, then hung them vertically (see picture) off the edge of my table from a clamp (2 in each clamp, separated slightly so they didn’t touch), let it dry, did it again for a second coat. Then repeated this process with the other end of each wire. MANUFACTURER: you'd get great reviews for this product if only you'd add a 2-second sanding step to your manufacturing process to remove the cutting burrs, so every single purchaser doesn't have to spend 45 minutes doing this at home. Virtually every bad review is because of the rough ends - WAKE UP and fix this!

The more I knit the more I need specialty tools for my projects. I finally splurged and bought these to block a gorgeous "floppy jacket" made with Koigu. The blocking was so much easier! You just carefully insert the wires into the edges and then secure your wires to your blocking board or squares, steam it and voila! a gorgeous garment! A real benefit is that you don't stretch individual stitches, instead the entire garment works together in the blocking. Using the wires makes it particularly easy to do larger pieces such as ponchos and lace scarves. Excellent!!
Shipping was very quick and I love the tube for storage. The yard stick included is quite nice and you get some free stainless steel T pins!

This is an excellent kit for blocking knits. I'm new to blocking and I chose this kit because it had the tools I would need for a shawl I was making. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the kit when I received it. It comes in a sturdy tube that you can use to store all the items so they won't be misplaced. The kit includes a wooden yard stick for measuring and keeping things straight when blocking. There are semi-flex/hard wires and also flexible wires included as well as some T-pins. The kit arrived very fast and was carefully packaged so it was in perfect condition when it got here. If you're looking for blocking wires for your knitting, consider purchasing this really great product. Thanks.

This was a strange purchase, as it didn't come in looking like what is pictured. I am very happy with what I got, although it seems from other reviews like it might be sort of a grab bag as to what you actually get.

The thick wires work great and hardly bend. I haven't tried the thin wires yet. My kit came with 12 rigid wires and probably 4 thin wires. I also got the T-pins and a measuring tape (instead of a yard stick). It also came with a self-leveling quilt hanger. I'm not sure if this is a freebie or was put in accidentally. It's pretty neat though and I am sending it to my grandma, who is the quilter in the family and is quite prolific. I don't have much use for it.

Overall though, I'm very happy with the kit and have had no problems with the wires snagging.

Try it. I have been knitting for years and only hand blocked (if at all). I tried a new stitch for a scarf that had a very interesting texture and border. I decided to try this after reading about it in an online forum. I am glad I did. Blocking really made the stitch stand out and I liked that the edges of the scarf were so straight. It showed off the border really well. Blocking made me realize that I was a better knitter than I previously believed.

I like how the set works together so you can use them with just about any project and then can be stowed away anywhere. I also bought the puzzle like foam blocks so that I could get a nice stretch and pin in place.

I have never used blocking wires before, but needed them for a lace shawl I finished recently. The kit has 12 sturdy 36 inch blocking wires, two flexible 24 inch wires, a small box of stainless steel T-pins, and a wooden yardstick. They are packed in a heavy cardboard tube that has plastic caps on each end. A couple of the blocking wires needed minor sanding on the ends to smooth out small burrs, but most of them were fine. I followed the directions and the wires worked perfectly. I am pleased with this product, think it is fairly priced and happy to see it is made in the USA!

I'm so happy I bought these. Now blocking isn't the onerous dread-inducing task it used to be. These are easy to use. The steel ends are well-enough finished that they don't snag my knitting. The wires are flexible enough to accommodate slight curves, and the kit includes smaller gauge wires so you can really do detail work in the bends. It also comes with T-pins, which I happened to need. Don't really need the yard stick, but whatever, it stows in the tube along with the wires.

If you've never blocked your knit or crochet work before, it makes an amazing difference in the look and feek of your finished product! I used wire cutters to make some shorter lengths, that are more convenient for the size crochet items I typically block. A little sanding on the cut edges and I now have a kit consisting of the following lengths:

      36" x 4
      24" x 4
      18" x 8
      12" x 4

I use quilting pins, and a rubber play mat to block my work. A light steam with a hand held steamer and I've got a perfectly finished item!
