A bit bigger than anticipated, but still much more compact and convenient than other options

- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2013This is the most compact and lightweight travel adapter for 2-prong N. American plugs (Type A). Unlike many budget (and non-budget) Universal adapters this particular one takes N. American polarized 2-prong plugs commonly found in shavers, hairdryers and other bathroom appliances - the type where one flat prong is a bit bigger than the other flat prong.
This adapter does not take nor adapt to the Swiss, grounded plug where the middle earth-pin is round, and the plugs are 3 in a row. In fact, most multi-country travel adapters do not fit the Swiss plugs because they are so different.
The build quality is ok at best probably due to its light weight. Adjusting the prongs feels a bit fiddly and fragile at the beginning, but is secure once adjusted. As long as the receiving outlet is not too tight, then this does what it's designed to do. It has so far survived over 40 trips in the past 2 years to countries all over Asia and Europe.
This travel adapter is rated to 6A and not the usual 13A that most Universal Adapters are. As in most travel adapters, the middle pin is plastic and does not provide grounding.
Recommended as a lightweight backup travel adapter for use in N. America, UK, Europe (except Switzerland), Australia and parts of Asia.
Use in UK/Ireland:
Several other reviewers have said that this adapter does not fit into the sockets in the UK & Ireland. This is just simply a misunderstanding where the assumption was that the UK & Ireland are in Europe and so the user configures this adapter to fit a Continental-European socket. The correct format/configuration for this adapter is to follow the instructions for Hong Kong/India (former British colonies) to be used for the UK & Ireland. Additionally, there is a safety feature built into the new British-style sockets where one must push the top pin into the slot to open the slots for the 2 bottom pins. To conclude, this works in the UK, but you must follow the directions for Hong Kong/India.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2018Every time I take time off work, I travel abroad, having gone to 20+ countries in the last 3 years. One of the biggest annoyances is travel plug adapters; they're bulky and heavy if they're multi-country, and if they're individual country, it's annoying to carry a bunch of individual plugs for a trip and they are easily lost.
I wanted something that would be the last travel adapter I'd need, that i could bring anywhere in the world and not have to think about it, while still being small and lightweight. The Kikkerland travel adapter fits that bill. It's the same design as the Japanese brand, Road Warrior, but at least on Amazon, Kikkerland is cheaper. I like that the prongs fold in for portability and that the two plug components can fit together, as pictured. The only wish I'd have is that the two prongs at the top for UK/Europe slid out, rather than always protruding - then this would be perfect. I'm a little worried about durability with them sticking out. Also, it was slightly larger than I thought it'd be, although still very compact. Pictured next to an iPhone 7 for scale.
Pros:
- Smart design, packs light and smaller than any alternatives by a large margin
- Cheaper than many all-in-one's despite being as or more functional
Cons:
- Some wall sockets do fit loose, which isn't the fault of the kikkerland, but it's normally not a problem; with this travel adapter, because the weight of the adapter itself + your own plug will lever the weight so far away from the wall, loose wall sockets are a problem. Fortunately, this seems less common than common, but is definitely annoying when it happens
- Two prongs must stick out at all times

- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2017The media could not be loaded.
PROS:
- The small, versatile design and minimal weight is perfect for packing.
- Will convert basically any outlet you throw at it.
- Great price.
The transformers-like mechanism is great, converting over 150 outlets.
CONS:
- Works with a 3 prong US plug (Type B), but doesn't ground the wire.
- It’s not always a snug fit and can come loose from the outlet if you have something heavy plugged in.
- It’s a converter and not dual voltage, but that’s OK as most modern day devices are dual voltage. Be sure to check the voltage of your devices before using.
- It doesn’t always feel the most durable, and some of the moving parts can stick.
- One of the configurations can block the outlet next to it.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2023These have worked across Europe, Asia, Australia, but they are made of cheap plastic, do not hold plug adapters tight, and one of them broke off in an Australian outlet which will require the outlet to be repaired. I'd suggest a slightly higher quality build with anything entering an outlet to be made of metal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pequeño e ingenioso adaptador

4.0 out of 5 stars Áltamente portátil
El adaptador es mega portátil, por lo que para viajes es una gran opción. Además de que se convierte en muchísimos adaptadores.

2.0 out of 5 stars Overall a nice lightweight and slim adapter and I think I just ...
Not sure if the unit I have received is defective or not but the orange plastic bits are very loose and don't stay in position.
The rounded (European) prongs are also not straight but bent and slanted, which they should not be.
Overall a nice lightweight and slim adapter and I think I just received a defective unit. Shame, as I live in a remote area and would return it but it's too much hassle.
Thanks for reading.
