Saved my finger from certain doom on the first use
I finally decided to purchase a Benriner Mandolin Slicer, and something told me to grab a pair of cutting gloves. I used to have to wear them to slice garnishments as a bar tender many, many moons ago, so I was familiar with them but never realized how useful they were until my slicer (and these new gloves, a Medium) arrived.I washed my slicer and decided to make carmalized onions for our grilled beed hotdogs. But I definitely didn't want to slice the onions by hand, so I tried the mandolin for the first time. Let me tell you, that blade is sharp. Razor sharp. I made a bad pass with the onion and felt the blade catch the tip of my nail inside the glove. Sliced it right off, but the glove stopped the blade from slicing into my finger. It would have been a bad one. I will continue to use these gloves now that I have a newfound respect for their usefulness.

I am a home cook. Every meal- and cut up poultry, large fish, and full bone lamb and other cuts of meat on a weekly basis., as well a vegs as soft as tomatoes or a dense as large acorn squash . I am "thin-skinned" ,bleed easily, and even peeling potatoes from my youth 60 years ago was "a bloody mess".

12 years ago I started using the CutShield gloves. I sold my stock in Band-Aid/Johnson&Johnsons corporation (>sarc alert <).To the point- these cutshield gloves are fantastic- quality/durability, and fufills its stated purpose. HOWEVER- you need to know that these are essentially fabric gloves.

IF you are chopping up splatchoking chickens, boning beef/lamb/pork shoulders- these gloves REQUIRE an over-covering glove. Whether you want heavy gloves that decrease your "hand-feel", nitrile gloves, or the methods of covering "armored gloves", you need to realize - you are dealing with "finger safety" as well as NOT allowing porous gloves to cross-contaminate everything.

I just love to cook... I have been cooking about 8 years after I was born in 1953.

I'm a homestead type who butchers a half-dozen large animals a year - pigs, goats, sheep and deer. Usually by the end of the day I've got a nice collection of micro cuts all over the fingers of my left hand. I just finished butchering my first deer with these gloves and they did the job - not a single cut. I discovered a nice bonus, too: the gloves give you a great grip for yanking on the hide of the animal. As other reviewers have said, they can collect blood and bits of meat over time, in which case they get pretty slick. You can rinse them under the sink and get a lot of that off, as long as you don't mind wearing wet gloves afterwords.

I can work faster and with more confidence knowing one small slip won't matter. For $12 and change that's less than I would be spending on bandaids, vinyl gloves and antibiotic cream for all those small cuts.

Also, though the image doesn't make it clear, these are not a pair of L/R gloves; both gloves are exactly the same, so I can use the second glove as a replacement when the first glove gets too slick. The large fit my hands (about 8" from wrist to tip of middle finger) perfectly, and I never got that glove annoyance where I was frustrated that they were in the way.

I'm ordering a second pair. Mine went into the laundry pile after the job was done, where the family dog sniffed them out. While they are slash proof, they definitely are not chew proof, so I need to replace them.

Likely the single most important purchase I made for cutting up meat. These gloves saved my hands on numerous occaisions. Where, I am a noice when it comes to cutting meat, I am very good at slicing my fingers. These gloves are not cut proof and you can slice through them, however, after multiple straight on pokes, cross slices and other mistakes that would have taken my finger off, I had no cuts on my hand. I will say that I sliced the tip of the glove open, but it offered me enough reaction time to not slice through the latex glove I used as a liner. Again... not cut proof, but certainly cut resistant and saved me numerous times.

Fingers are a bit long, but you can pull the excess down towards your hand. The Medium sizing was funny: one glove was more like a large while the other had tight fingers at the "V". Regardless, I was able to use the larger one and my wife was able to use the one with tight fingers.

I am glad there are 2 in a package. I treat them as semi-disposble gloves and get a new pair after using them for a bit. I figure that is the price I pay to cut my own meat and save my fingers.

This glove had been perfect for my needs. I’m a beginner wood carver and this glove has been just what I needed. I especially like the grips on the palm and fingers.

I ordered these right along with my new mandonline slicer (which I LOVE and also wrote a review for):

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002DTDMY2/

and I am SOOoo glad I did! The safety-holder that comes with this mandoline is excellent, but there are definitely times when I need to cut things that I have to hold in my hand (such as multiple celery or carrots, which the food-holder really can't hold adequately). When I hold these things in my fist, I'm absolutely positive that I would slice the bottom side of my hand right off (remember I'm holding the pieces in my fist, not fingers). Before I used these, I literally TRIED to cut them on the mandoline blades, and wasn't able to, with normal speed and pressure. (I'm sure if I tried REALLY hard, I'd be able to cut them, but I only needed to make sure that they wouldn't get sliced through with normal mandoline speed/pressure/use, so I didn't push super hard or saw them back-and-forth, which may have eventually cut through them).

I was very surprised at how flexible and well-fitting they are - they really don't feel much different than a normal pair of light-to-medium-weight knit gloves. I have a medium-sized female hand with slightly shorter-than-average fingers, and the medium gloves are perfect for me. Just a tiny bit of extra space at the finger-tips, but it's easy to pull them down snug. And they do not limit my finger motion nor dexterity one bit - I honestly didn't expect that! I thought they would feel stiff and confining, but they do not, at all.

They are super-easy to clean after using - I simply wash them in the soapy dish-water that I wash the mandoline in, and then rinse and squeeze the extra water out, and hang over a towel-bar to dry. You can also throw them in your regular washing machine, but do NOT put them in the dryer! (I read that on the package). They don't take long to dry anyway, being a somewhat loose knit. If you have something like soft cheese that gets pushed into the gloves, just use a small scrub-brush on them, gently scrubbing in little circles - that worked well for me. I will NEVER be using my mandoline without these gloves - I love my fingers just the way they are and can't afford to lose any fingertips as they're short enough already! LOL! (and I'm a musician!) ;)

    Highly recommended!
