Customers have different views on the drain strainer's sturdiness. Some find it flexible yet strong enough to poke through waste and leave no signs of wear after use. Others mention it appears flimsy, with brittle hairs that make cleaning difficult. The teeth that grab waste are so strong that it is very difficult and near impossible to clean.

I am amazed!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2024I truly wasn't prepared for what this thing was going to pull out of my sink drains. It was truly disturbing, but I just continued to use it til it couldn't find anything else. The stuff that accumulates in sink drains from tooth paste & shaving & heaven knows what else is really pretty nasty. But if you use this thing occasionally, your sink will drain like it should. Only drawback is that it is a pain to clean it off, but it does an amazing job!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2013After reading both the positive and negative reviews about this product, I decided to spend the seven bucks and give it a shot. My showers were rapidly turning into unwanted baths, and after five minutes I'd be standing in ankle-deep water. I'd tried Liquid Plumr and Drano, and they seemed to help a bit, but I couldn't find anything that would clear the drain completely.
After receiving the FlexiSnake, I was dubious. It is essentially a piece of flexible wire wrapped in hook velcro. It feels pretty flimsy, and I was worried that I'd made a bad purchase. I gave it a shot anyway, and fed it down the drain of the tub. I was amazed at what it pulled out! Gobs of hair from what was probably years ago, over and over again. I kept inserting it until just a little past when it stopped, and kept pulling out more and more gunk. When all was said and done, I had a clean, free flowing drain.
A couple suggestions/notes:
- If you have the ability to remove the drain cap to make the drain opening as unobstructed as possible, do it. This will make the job a lot less time consuming.
- The FlexiSnake was only about 14" inches long. If the obstruction is deep inside the drain, you'd be better off disassembling the pipe at the J-Bend and getting at the clog from there.
- I've used this on four separate occasions, and have had success with it each time. Clean it after each use by pulling off the hair from the FlexiSnake and rinse it under hot water. I see no reason that this can't be used over and over again, with proper cleaning. Again, it's just like hook velcro, so cleaning it is just like pulling stray hairs from that, just on a larger (and ickier) scale. I had no problem cleaning it after each use, so I'm not quite sure why other reviewers had such trouble.
- You could certainly buy a professional drain auger for at least three times the price, and it would get the job done as well. However, if you don't know what you're doing with that, you have the potential to damage the bathroom fixtures or pipes. A hard metal snake can easily scratch and ding drain rings and sinks.
An easy 5 star rating for me.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2015After multiple bottles of Drano and Liquid Plumber never seemed to do the trick in unclogging some of my sinks, I knew I need to be a little more aggressive and get a tool in there. Snakes weren't all that cheap so when I saw this, I figured I'd give it a shot. The tool is flexible but not flimsy, strong enough to poke its way down the drain but flexible enough to go around the bends. The material on the outside is basically like the rougher half of velcro.
I pushed the snake down into the drain, swirled it around in there and pulled out some pretty revolting stuff. I didn't want to overthink what the heck it was that I just pulled out of my bathroom sink so I took some toilet paper and pulled off most of whatever it was. A little bit lingered on there but washed off fairly easily.
My only complaint was that one of my sinks was one of those big glass half bowl sinks that look like they're sitting on top of the counter, only partially immersed. The drain cover is one of those that you just push down on the drain cover to stop the water and push on it again to open up the drain. So, the cover, instead of neatly fitting inside the drain hole and being a perfect fit to seal it, it's actually bigger than the drain hole. With a setup like this, it makes it pretty hard to bend this snake in a shape that can get it to push down very far. I felt like I wasn't able to get it in more than a couple inches before it just couldn't go any further because of the angle. I still managed to pull out some stuff but knew I wasn't getting all of the way in there. So, if you have those types of drains, this may not be the best tool for the job. But for the money, this a great tool and worth giving a shot
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2020I was using something equivalent to drano for the longest time prior to using this drain snake. I was never satisfied with the liquid drain cleaner because it would only last about 3 months before I needed to use it again. There was a toxic smell and I had to wait at least 30 minutes before I could use the sink again. And being in a small apartment with a large 3 gallon container of chemical wasn’t ideal. Most importantly, I was concerned about the environment impacts of pouring a dissolvent into the drain.
When I got this drain snake, I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I snaked it down my drain and yanked up unspeakable horrors. It was so gross! It was a combination loose hairs mixed in with black sludge-like stuff. But guess what, after I finished cleaning (about 10 minutes), my drain didn’t have any more problems for about 2 years! Water flowed freely down the drain. It feels way more environmental and it’s definitely way more effective.
Cleaning the drain snake wasn’t easy and I don’t blame others for wanting to throw it away after use. But it IS possible. What I did after each “excavation,” was I’d swish the snake in the toilet bowl. It’s kind of satisfying seeing the water turn dark and then flushing it away. At the very end of the cleaning, I’d give the snake a few more swishes and pull out any tangled strands. It looks almost brand new with a little bit of effort.
All in all, I really recommend this drain snake. It’s more cost-efficient, more effective, takes up less space for storage, and is more environmental.

5.0 out of 5 stars Si funciona, destapé lavabo en 3 minutos
Funciona muy bien, destapé el lavabo en 3 minutos y cabe perfectamente, quizá lo único es que es difícil de limpiar después de todo lo que saca pero no es problema. Use por mucho tiempo los destapacaños en liquido y no se compara con esto.

5.0 out of 5 stars very useful
I have been using this product for years at all the addresses I've lived in.It gets all the loose hair and stuff from down the Bathroom sink without having to use harsh chemicals which get into the sewage system and do not always do a complete job.I had a blocked sink because of loose hair etc and even after the chemical advertised to unblock sinks it was still blocked.I used the FlexiSnake and it worked first time.I shall not use anything else

4.0 out of 5 stars Il problema viene dopo........

5.0 out of 5 stars Beurk !
J'en ai acheté des con---eries, des pinces, d'autre tiges, une tonne de produit chimiques-super-miraculeux-vous-n'en-croirez-pas-vos-yeux, et pourtant, voila ce que j'ai sorti de mon lavabo ! Beurk hein ?
