- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2016**April 2017 Update** We've used this camera consistently now for over a year. By "consistently" I mean that it is used at every nap and during the night, every single day. Often times we forget to turn the camera off following a nap. I would estimate that the camera is in the "on" position for approximately 15 hours a day. Every day. No exceptions (yes, we travel with it). We've easily put over 5,500 hours of use on this monitor. Since my last review update I have mounted the camera on the wall. Mounting is a very simple task that requires a small screw and a drill. No need to worry about finding a stud in the wall to mount to, the camera is extremely light and will not over stress your drywall. I have accidentally knocked the camera off its wall mount a couple of times, each time thinking I must have broken the unit. Not so. The camera seems to survive a 5 foot drop just fine. Regarding the display monitor, I notice no change in the image quality after a year. Since the camera is used for monitoring during sleep time almost exclusively the display is always in the night vision mode. Shockingly, the battery life does not seem to have slipped. Based on our routine use, the monitor usually begins to beep at us (low battery warning) at about the same time every night, usually just before we're heading to bed ourselves. For there not to be one degree of performance drop off after a year of perpetual use and a few drops of the camera, I am truly amazed. Very glad we went with this brand.
**June 2016 Update** After owning this camera for about 4 months now, I'm standing by my 5 star rating. There are a few things that we've noticed that I though I'd pass along in a review update. First, when using our phones on wi-fi near the monitor, we get some feedback noise. I'm sure this could be fixed by changing the network channel, but I'm too lazy. Second, I am starting to question the accuracy of the temperature reading, but again, too lazy to conduct any tests to prove it out. Third, I really wish the monitor would provide the time. There is definitely room for it at the top of the screen. Fourth, putting a small bit of electrical tape over the green light on the camera is a smart move. While the light is subtle, I think it provided something to distract the baby with. This monitor has been in use for more than 16 hours a day, every day for almost four months. I've been impressed with it's durability. It continues to be one of the better baby safety purchases we've made.
There are SO many reviews of various baby monitors out there. It was overwhelming reading all of them. Of course, different reviewers have different standards and particular things that are important to them. As I read through them all to try to get a sense of what was going to be important to me, I found myself getting more uncertain with each review I read. All the while, we were still without a monitor. I came to the conclusion that we just had to jump in, buy one and see how it worked. It seemed that none are perfect and every single one has at least several people shredding the product, while others absolutely love it.
So far, after about a month, the Infant Optics is great. Maybe I had low expectations going in? The worst thing I can say about it is that you have to hold the off button down for the monitor to power down. Hardly a negative point. The night vision is clear, the volume of the microphone is good. In short, this does what you want it to do. Is the monitor high resolution HD? No. Do you need it to be? No. The picture is clear, no issues with reception. We have several brick walls in our house, this has no problem with signal. The cord on the video camera is long enough to accommodate any distance from where we have plugs placed. We generally keep the video monitor plugged in, so I can't comment too much on the battery life of that device. Though it has certainly gone a full day on a single charge with moderate use, with gas left in the tank on the charge. I've not noticed any sound from the camera unit when it pans and tilts.
After having a lot of anxiety over choosing the right monitor, I'm glad we went with this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2015We have been using the Infant Optics DXR-8 video monitor for 1 year now and felt we could now give an accurate review.
If you're in a hurry, the summary of this review is that this camera and monitor are great and the customer service provided by the company is outstanding (see below). So stop hunting and trying to weigh all the baby camera/monitor reviews and get this camera and monitor if it provides you with all the features you want. You really aren't going to find anything better.
We initially purchased this camera and monitor after spending way too much time pouring over all the options available to us, trying to find the BEST camera and monitor for our new baby.
Our main concerns were getting a good camera with quality night imaging, good sound and an easily viewable monitor. We also felt we didn't want a system that sent our image feed off to some remote server where it would be stored for some period of time for whatever analytics that the company performed. The Infant Optics DXR-8 fulfilled all our wishes.
Set-up:
Setting up the monitor and camera was easy. We followed the directions and had no issues at all pairing the camera and monitor.
The camera was actually very light and we hung it up on the wall so it could capture the entire inside of the crib. Again, it was very easy.
USE:
The monitor had a clear picture in day light and more importantly, at night. The monitors range was sufficient for us and we had no problems even after we moved baby out of our room and into her own as our rooms were on different floors.
The monitor always worked great and we could always see the baby when we wanted. The controls on the monitor were easy to use and the buttons were large enough to use in the middle of the night with no light or light from monitor alone. We appreciated the simplicity, particularly when sleep deprived.
In terms of battery life for the monitor, we had no issues once we figured out our schedule. We used it pretty much throughout the day unplugged and kept it plugged in overnight night by our bed, pretty much like our phones. Occasionally we ran out of battery but not frequently enough where we thought there was something wrong. It was all we could ask for.
Customer Service:
Now for the best part. Coming up on a year of use, the power button on the monitor began to stick. We started having issues turning the monitor on and off and putting it to sleep. It got to the point where the monitor turned on and off by itself sporadically which was problematic at night.
We wrote an email to Infant Optics explaining the situation and hoping for a repair or replacement. We received a response on the very same day we wrote (Sunday!) explaining that a replacement monitor would be easiest.
So we sent the monitor back through the mail and sent them a picture of the package and the receipt. Given this proof, they were able to send out our replacement before they received our broken monitor and we received the new monitor in the mail in 2 days!
But that’s not all. We accidentally sent back the battery for the monitor which we were instructed not to do (The monitor still works without a battery if plugged in). So we wrote again explaining our mistake. Infant Optics immediately got back to us again and sent out another battery for the monitor. 2 days later we had a new battery for our new monitor.
Conclusion:
Honestly, we could not ask for better treatment. This is the type of costumer service that actually makes you happy and reaffirms that the Infant Optics camera and monitor was the right choice for our family.
You can’t go wrong with this camera and monitor. It works great and it is backed up by outstanding customer service that provides peace of mind all new parents should be afforded.

1.0 out of 5 stars No compres del vendedor: UPTOWNCOMPUTER
He peridodo aprox. €370 con la estafa.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great monitor
We have twins so the remotely moving camera allows us to check both babies. I can not fault this monitor, brilliant day and night vision, excellent sound. Would give this 6 stars if I could!

5.0 out of 5 stars very good to carry around when you're travelling with kids!
We already have home security cameras at home that we use to monitor our baby when she's sleeping. the reason why we bought DXR-8 Video Baby Monitor with Interchangeable Optical Lens is because when we travel, we can't bring those home security cameras with us. Previously what we did is we me and my wife video calls each other using both our phones, and use that as the temporary baby monitor when we travel and stay in hotels or b&b's for example. The problem is 1) sometimes there's no wifi 2) there is wifi, but we have to turn off the lights, our phones doesnt have night vision 3) we can't use our phone since we're using it as the baby monitor screen.
DXR-8 Video Baby Monitor with Interchangeable Optical Lens solves it all! One of the best investments when taking care of your small one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid
Pros:
This is a great, easy to use product. The range easily covers my average sized house. The mic picks up everything and the video quality is good and pretty smooth. Pan and tilt works great. It is very clever of them to market early 2000s computer hardware as a security benefit, which it is. No one is going to traumatize your child over the internet with this hardware. I like to use the speaker to wind up my wife but I'm not sure what other use it has.
Thermometer in the camera is a great idea.
Cons:
The screen is very bright, even on the lowest setting. If you use it beside your bed you will need to turn it off.
The buttons are hard to read even in good light. In low light it is impossible. Small white text on a grey background is not a good choice.
The power supplies are both wall wort moulded plugs with barrel connectors. International buyers will need to replace them and this is tricky and will add around 30% to the total cost. I find this almost unforgivable because both units could run on standard USB power. The display power cable even has USB on one end but it plugs in to the unit with a barrel. Non USB power supplies for low voltage low power appliances need to stop.
