Safety is always my concern when camping, and this SEEMS to show promise. But it will only be useful for soft ground/turf, such as a suburban back yard. In all the campsites I've ever encountered, the local rocks magically migrate to your precise tent site.I now direct your attention to a comparison of the product photo and my picture. Notice the attractive designs at the point, which completely negate the stability of the point. A STEEL stake designed this way would be nearly as likely to end up like my picture, and this was taken AFTER I attempted to straighten it.That being said, the light that attaches to the stake is a good balance between bright and night-blinding. Although I can imagine no circumstance where the strobe would be useful - on or off only, please. Or possibly on-white/on-red/off.Just -- let's put the light on a USEFUL and sturdy stake, please.

    My wife ordered these for our camping trips and have not used them yet, but, I did put batteries in them and was very glad to see how much light each produced. I fill these will add greatly to out camping experiences. The stakes appear to be sturdy and should hold up in tough ground. Plan to use them as soon as weather warms and we can get out into our wonderful outdoors.

    ok.. just got through a weekend camping trip with these. Make sure you don't hammer them down too hard cause if you hit a rock, they bend. In my opinion they should have left out the holes at the bottom of the stake. That's exactly where two of mine bent hitting a hard spot as hard as I usually do with my ground hog stakes. I sorta straightened them out with a multitool but you can tell the aluminum was weakened. I'm just going to relegate the stakes to backup or loaner duty. So the stakes for me were meh. The lights were what I really wanted anyway. They aren't perfect but they work really well. There is a plastic insert that plugs up the rubber housing behind the battery compartment. Not sure of it's use but it falls out easily. I might glue it in. Not sure what it's really for other than to fall out when changing batteries. I think it's to keep water out but why have the hole in the first place? On strobe mode my buddies say it looks like a airport landing strip. (I purchased 2 sets) Makes it real easy to locate camp too. In the end.. I ended up not using the stakes but running some paracord hitched through the light housing along with a cord squeeze lock and caribiner. I can now attach them anywhere like my hammock ridgeline or off my ground hog stakes. So.. to be fair, just taking one off for the stakes. They are serviceable if you are careful but the lights are real handing in not tripping up on guy lines, finding camp, etc. I can't comment on battery life since the batteries I used were suspect and it was very cold outside. I may update the review after a few trips with the lights.

    One stake can light about 8 ft clearly then starts to fade into the darkness.

    They look sweet! The button on them isn't really a button though, you need to pull off the rubber and insert a AAA battery inside. Well made and a good solid tent peg.     Just took these away for a week camping, to use as markers for tent pegs and guy lines. They work pretty well for that, but they are not really area lights. What I did find is that the switch on these is VERY sensitive - DO NOT carry these in your gear with the battery in place, even bumping them together is sometimes enough to turn them on, so if you don't want to be carrying a great load of spare batteries with you, carry the battery/s separately (say, in a zip lock bag) then only put them in when you are going to use them.
