Amibo must have game!
I got this game for my kids, they are HUGE gaming fans. They were hooked from the get go, the only down fall of this game if you MUST have another Wii controller other than the game pad or you can only play Bower Party. Once we got the other remote it was Awesome!!!! Graphics are phenomenal! The mini games are so fun! Great buy! So worth the money and the remote.

Mario Party fans have always had differing opinions with each successive entry into the series. There have been little changes to the formula here and there, but nothing in my opinion as drastic as the change from 8 to 9. No longer did characters move across the board individually, they rode in a vehicle together with the captain being the player of that turn. No longer were spaces set for minigames, they were randomly strewn across the board hidden in regular spaces. 10 takes this same style of play and adds in little extras to spice things up. I personally loved 9 and so naturally I was looking forward to 10. I wasn't disappointed. First, graphically the HD treatment has done well for MArio and crew. Using the same models as the previous entry sans the jaggies, the characters have a clean and bright appearance. They aren't amazing by any means but they dont have to be. The boards are varied (some of the themes are similar to 9) and include lots of animated detail in the backgrounds making the trek through them the first few times interesting, as you'll most likely notice something with each play that you hadn't before. When it comes to the minigames just don't expect anything revolutionary. They follow a pattern through all the MP games: jump up this, punch that, dodge this and collect that. All I can say is if you like the series' staple minigames you'll be content, and if you expect to be wowed you'll walk away disappointed. I had funplaying them. There seemed to be a bit more that were reliant on luck than skill. I guess that's fine since it can turn the tides of a game and nobody is guaranteed to dominate . The car mechanic was something I loved about 9 ands I'm happy it has stayed. Prior to 9 I found that I ended most of my sessions early because they tended to drag on. Other players found themselves far ahead or laps behind even due to the luck of the roll. The ability to exact your revenge on other players also became limited especially on bigger boards because of moments where players were too far from one another. Now, with the introduction of the vehicle, every player moves at the same pace. It allows gameplay to move at a brisker place and nobody gets left behind. It's great for shorter sessions and also for younger players who may have felt discouraged and unable to catch up. You can still screw over the other guy and now you don't have to worry they're too many spaces away! See the mini zstars coming up? Make the next guy lose some stars by rolling that 0/1 dice you've been holding onto and let him or her be the unlucky one to hit them. You've just made an enemy for the rest of the game. There's a slew of other additions to the game in the form of other modes like Bowser Party and amiibo party, both of which I found very enjoyable. In amiibo party you use your Super Mario series amiibo, or the same characters from the Smash Bros series, to play on character themed boards. This mode plays more like a traditional game of Mario Party. There are no vehicles so everyone moves individually and there is a minigame at the end of every full turn. However, I suppose to keep games from being too long the boards are smaller and limited to 10 turns. During play you can collect character tokens that allow you to change fourths of the board to that characters theme which adds different events and bonus spaces also. The characters that have amiibo representing them will have exact replicas in-game as the pieces, with others represented by cardboard cutout-looking characters on plastic bases similar to any cheap kids board game. I loved the attention to detail here. You use your amiibo the roll the dice via the gamepad and even collect tokens that get saved onto your amiibo. If the dice hit your player piece in the game during a roll they topple over just like in real life. Cute! Tokens can also be won at the end of a game that can be used next time you play. Bowser Party quickly became a favorite of mine. Up to 4 players can join up on team Mario with one player using the Gamepad as team Bowser. The object is basically to run away from bowser and get to the finish before you're destroyed. I played with just one other person and we opted to both be team Mario. LEt me say it was as infuriating as it was fun. You are put at such a disadvantage. You all move in the vehicle and take your turns rolling the dice to get it to move as far as possible from the big bad Bowser and once your turn is complete HE takes HIS. Bowser has FOUR die to roll and if he catches up with you a minigame commences where it's all of you against him and the goal is to survive. Each player has hearts to conserve and getting hit means losing heart. Lose them all and you're out, which lessens the amount of die you have to roll on the next turn. It is possible to be put back in but I'll save explaining too much. You can replenish some hearts on various spaces on the board, but I found more often than not that I was barely surviving, and I liked it! Overall, I had an excellent time playing Mario Party 10! Online Play would have been a nice addition but it doesnt suffer for lack of it. Mario Party games were meant to be played with your friends, or enemies, sitting right next to you.

Let me first start off by saying that I have owned and played every Mario Party in the series. However, I will try to approach this review without trying to compare the game to its predecessors as the basis of its quality.

Mario Party 10 is not a game to be played by "pro gamers." It just isn't. The game is very much based on luck, as every Mario Party has ever been (I'll get more to this later). The game play is smooth and enjoyable. The graphics are awesome, and the minigames are a blast. A previous reviewer mentioned that it is possible to go through a whole game without playing a minigame since they don't happen at the end of every players turn. Let me assure you that is impossible. The game will make minigames happen by saying you "landed on a hidden minigame box." So if you think you will go through the whole board without playing a minigame, it's not going to happen. The minigames are fun and refreshing. Some are challenging while others are much easier. Mario Party is all about the minigames and this one delivers on that.

One of the greatest things Mario Party 10 has is the new Bowser Mode. Now 5 friends can all play at the same time, and it is actually a really fun mode. Bowser, using the gamepad, attempts to stop the 4 players by getting to the end through playing minigames that cause you to lose "heart points." If you lose all your hearts, you are out. Your team can revive you by getting more hearts, but it is definitely difficult.

For anyone who is afraid that this game is no fun because there is no strategy, let me assure you it is fun! Mario Party has always been based around luck. It's determined by the roll of a dice, and then you land on a certain space that can be good or bad for you. There has never been a Mario Party that was all strategy. The strategy that is used in Mario Party 10 is knowing which dice block to use, if you have any special blocks, and how to try and set your opponents up for the greatest chance at misfortune. Yet, it is all based on the roll of a dice. It always has been and always will be, but it's fun. If you are looking for a game that will reward you for smart moves, go and play a round of chess. You probably won't laugh a lot, but at least you know it's your fault if you won or lost. In Mario Party 10 you do the best you can to win, but sometimes the roll of the dice is not in your favor. However, you will laugh, scream, and probably yell at, or with, your friends until the end.

All in all, Mario Party 10 is going to cause you to laugh and scream. Don't buy this game if you are planning on playing it mostly on your own. It is not a one player game, there is no challenge to really unlock anything. The fun is playing with people around you. Have fun, and enjoy the awesome new minigames and maps that Nintendo has come up with for Mario Party 10. Try out the new Bowser mode, that makes this game worth it entirely.

    Important things to know:
-You need to have regular wii remotes to play this game.
-Amiibo's are needed to unlock Amiibo mode, and only a few are compatible. ( I have not tried this mode yet)
-The gamepad is not used for gameplay except for Bowser Party. While the screen is used through out the regular gameplay, you cannot play the game on it.
-This game is REALLY boring to play by yourself.

We play this as a family - my 36 year old video game-loving husband, me (loved played old-school Nintendo back in the day but don't really love the Wii or 3D Mario games), and our two daughters, age 5 and 7. My husband really loves being able to share his love of video games with our daughters. Our daughters, however, are uncoordinated and not very good at the Wii. They get frustrated easily. So, this is the perfect game for all of us!!!!

A ton of the points (stars) are awarded by chance (lots of dice-rolling), although there can be a little strategy involved if you want. Example - The first four times we played a game board, I (wife) won three times, and the 7 year old won once. Mr. Video Game Dad didn't win at all, even though he dominated most of the mini-games. Also, there were some mini-games that involve a lot more chance than skill, so our daughters are thrilled when they get a chance to win!

This game is best played with 4 people, and also best played with at least 1 kid. Every gets a fair shot at winning, and it is fun in the process.

If you're looking for that good, old-fashioned fun that video games used to afford back in the day when Nintendo was still top dog in the gaming industry, then this game is for you- and possibly your family, if you have one to play with. I will concede that this game was designed specifically for the shared experience; however, if you have no one to play with, yet still enjoy those solo moments of playing party games against CPU's, this baby will still bring you several hours of competitive, good-natured fun. And, as Nintendo is often wont to do, they stepped up their game slightly and added a few more interesting twists that will keep you from getting bored too quickly. If nothing else, play it for old times' sake.

Off course I prefered when we could move all separatly from the board..but the graphics and image quality are so much great in the new game that I don't mind in the end. The game tends to be childish, but it still great and reminds me of the old days. Last thing.. The game was scratch in the shipping.. Seriously could Amazon protect the things they ship more than just putting them in these cheap yellow envelope... This is not the first time and let's say that's a real bummer when you intend to keep and take good care of your stuff............!
