Make Mine A Dual Hose Please!!

Make Mine A Dual Hose Please!!
So I got this last spring 2015 for an extra bedroom I have. Model MM14CCS. Usually its the one my mother (or someone else) uses when they come to visit. I have security bars on my house, and I dont have any of those a/c cages for window units in that room. Was looking for a quick solution when someone comes over, and I can just pop it into the window really quick. So what I did was get it all hooked up like I wanted, and then just took the hoses out all in one piece and lay them on the floor until needed. I dont really worry about anyone coming thru the window when the hoses are in because it does have the security bars there in the window. I can just close that window back up and lock it. Yes I did say hoses. I got to looking at the back of this unit, and there are 2 big holes exactly alike. One is the exhaust and the other is an intake. The unit comes with a little cap that goes over the intake with a screen to keep objects from being sucked inside the unit and to keep dirt out, I guess. I got to thinking about it and wondered if I just got another one of those connectors, would it fit in the same way and I could make it into a dual hose unit. Hmmm I popped the one I had on there from the exhaust side, and sure enough it locks right into place. So I found another one online, and got some of that dryer vent hose as you can see in the picture, cut another hole in the window bracket (be sure you know what you are doing) and connected it all up. Wow what a difference it makes on the efficiency too. Before it was sucking out all the cool air in the room, now it doesnt. You will notice that on the exhaust hose on the left in the picture, I have it wrapped with some insulation. I have them both wrapped now. This really helps keep the heat out and with the noise. The air being sucked in isnt nearly as hot as whats being blown out, so the cheapo hose works just fine. Just wrap them both really good and it will help tons. Mind you I do live in Texas so we do have 100+ degree days, and horrible humidity. Now when I use this unit I have a 25,000btu and 12,000btu window unit going in other parts of the house, so this one is not cooling on its own. It does cool the room its in which is 14x20 and it does a really good job. I dont think that if I had this one going all on its own that it would be able to cool much of a house, at least not in Texas. I put this unit on by itself and while it did keep that one room nice and cool, the other parts of the house really heated up. It also ran the compressor without cutting off. Now when I have them all going the compressor goes on and off, which is good. One thing I do not like about these portable units, from what I have found, most of them the fan will run 24/7 and does not cut off with the compressor. I wish it did but its OK because this is not my primary unit. It has a really nice display on the front thats easy to read, and after like a minute if you dont touch anymore buttons, it will turn the backlight off so its dark while you sleep. I like that part. We have learned that the button in the middle of the remote is the fan speed button, so if you wake up in the middle of the night you can tap that one button to light up the display if you need to, and you wont mess up your modes, or turn the unit off by accident. This one does blow a lot of air for a portable unit too, and thats one reason why I picked this one. It has one of the highest CFM's at 265 which is a lot for a portable unit. I've read a lot of people say this one is loud. I dont really think its much louder than any other a/c unit, but you do have to remember that instead of half of the unit hanging out your window, 100% is sitting in the floor inside your house. Now once I wrapped the hoses that seemed to calm things down a bit, and then I got a really thick bath mat and laid it on top of the carpet, and then sat this unit on top of that, so it has a soft area to sit on, and that seemed to really help a lot too. This unit does have wheels but its HUGE really it is. It is very heavy but rolls around nicely. I think its around 90 pounds out of the box. It does have a lot of cooling power though for a portable a/c unit. I do recommend this unit, but only if youre just trying to supplement what cooling you do have already. I dont really think you could use this unit alone unless your place is really small. It will cool down a good size room on its own though, I just dont think it could cool a whole house like a window unit can. It seems really well built, but you know all of these portable ones are mostly plastic on the outside. It does seem very sturdy though and looks really nice sitting there. If you are a handyman type person, you might wanna try to dual hose thing and get some more cooling power out if it. I do think its worth the money I spent for it, because it works well for what I needed it to do. I had to help the UPS man get it out of his truck and bring it in. I actually offered because I didnt want it to get damaged. It was packed really well and wasnt damaged at all. I've been really happy with it. I dont know why they dont offer this with a dual hose, but its nice to know you can make one out of it if you want. I also added on the top vent some pieces of thin plastic that I was able to cut and shape with some scissors, and I used foil tape to seal all around it. I was able to seal all those openings around the top discharge vent as well, so its more of a stronger directional air flow coming out of the top of the unit. You can really feel it standing on the other side of the room now. Before it seemed to be going all different directions. Hope maybe some people can use these little tips and tricks to get more out of one of these.Update July 19th, 2017This a/c unit is still going strong!! It has really worked out well the past couple of years. We have really enjoyed having this extra unit in our home and has worked so well. The addition of the 2nd intake hose has really made a huge difference in its efficiency, and kept the electric bill nice and low during the hot Texas summer months. We are having 100+ temps now, starting to go into August soon. Looking forward to having my little extra powerhouse to keep things cooled down. I've heard a lot of people say the quality isnt good, but so far I've had no issues at all with this one. Still looks as new as the day I unpacked it.

I've been through 5 different portable AC units for use in my modest 1500 sq. foot townhouse trying to find a decent unit and having no luck. Recently had a central air system breakdown and needed a larger unit ASAP, nothing in stock at local stores. This is everything I had been looking for in a unit prior to the AC being out in our house for a few days.

Listen, the other newer units have a "5 degree rule" that if the set temp is within 5 degrees of the room temp, the unit will shut down the compressor.....why? To save energy. Also, a fatal flow on many I have tried of late, their internal thermostat says it is 5 degrees cooler than it actually is. So marry up these two things and you could have a nearly 10 degree spread between desired temp and actual temp. NOT WITH THIS ONE, this one is not only accurate with its thermostat, but also does not shut off until it hits the set temp....bravo!

This unit is plenty cool, the best that I've tried in the last month or so. It has an upgraded window kit - thank goodness because so many window kits are horrible. The fan isn't like some others and you cannot feel the air blowing very far from the unit - it kicks out the air very well. And it is super cold.

The cord is long enough - don't laugh, try a newer LG unit and see how long the cord is and why you have to get an extension cord. Their response to others who said something was that we didn't want people to trip over the cord. Really? If that is an issue, they should not be buying a portable AC unit because the unit sits on the floor of your room and should likely stay put most of the time.

Buy this as it appears to be based on the older technology and not the new stuff. Don't let my efforts to find a decent unit be for nothing.

There are too many great things to say about this unit; you should buy this before you try anything else, and don't return this unless others you test don't give you the same side by side performance.

I haven't tried the heat or dehumidifier yet, happy just using the cold setting.

This is a total success story and reminds me of the LG unit I had to replace and never found a suitable replacement.

If you wonder why, I keep my bedroom at about 62 degrees when sleeping to get the bad dreams of PTSD to stay away....if it is hot, the bad dreams creep into my mind. IF kept cold, that doest happen. Finding a unit that will cool to the advertised temp AND not cheat on the actual temp in the room (as the unit sees it) is a winner and will be rewarded with keeping this purchase and an honest review.

This was the same price as over at a home supply store, but shipping was free there, not free here. But for less than $50 I got next day air service and it made it as early in the day. The square trade warranty (extended) absolutely worth it for the price involved.

Thanks for getting this one right!

UPDATE: The heater portion works like magic. I can keep the room cold all night, then warm it up for the wife in the morning before she has to get up for work. Seems counter intuitive to have to go cold and hot, but her bad back cannot survive getting ready for work in a cold room. And I cannot sleep in a warm room. Heater has worked when temperature has been very cold (15-20 degrees outside) just takes a few minutes to start up when it is this cold. Works great, gets room super warm, and never any doubts about this purchase before the heat function, with heat function I'd say it is one of my best purchases of late.

Before I purchased this air-conditioner I was using a window unit 8000 BTU Sharp and 10,500 BTU portable to cool a 1500 sq. ft home in Tacoma Wa in the Summertime. Summer hit quick this year and the two just couldn't hack this May heat wave. I am currently only running this AC unit and it is keeping our home at exactly the same temperature throughout. This is pretty amazing as our home is not insulated well and sits in the sun all day.
What I like about this product.
    1. It is very thin and seems stable.
    2. Very quiet fan when the AC pump isn't working, and moderately quiet whilst it is working.
    3. Efficient, doing nearly twice the work with half the amperage.
    4. The window fitting is very small as they have went with an oval vs. a circular opening and a pretty demure exhaust hose.
    5. Easy to use control panel.
    6. In AC mode it hasn't drained once. My Sharp during the summer drains constantly.
    7. There is an upper drain plug for dehumidifying which can just be run through a standard garden hose into a sump or out the window and used to water your grass.
What I don't like about this unit.
    1. The top is not open automatically.
    2. The outsides look a little cheap compared to my Sharp and the shinny black plastic seems dated.
    3. The heater works as a heat pump versus electric resistance which means it must be vented while in operation. As I live in a maritime climate it accumulates water very quickly and must be drained daily in heat mode as the evaporator doesn't seem to work in this mode.
    4. No one lists the filter that fits this AC when it the electrostatic filter clearly is made to hold one. By the way if any of your know what filter it is please let me know.
Overall this is a great unit. The flaws are only minor and will likely be tweaked in newer models. It is so nice to not have two units whirring all night. With this one I just set it to 70 degrees and forget about it. I have the drains hooked up to an electric sump that I use to water my flower baskets.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy! Very very loud (75dB). Weak performance (more like an 8,000BTU). Disappointed.
Reviewed in Canada on June 18, 2018
Not as powerful as I expected. It can hardly cool down a 450 square feet room when the outside is only 26C (that is 79F).

Also it sounds loud for my taste. It's 70dB at a distance of 6m and 75dB at 1m distance. Not a pleasant sound to hear all day long.

    Update: July 16, 2018, 1am
It’s 1am right now. This thing has been running for 2 hours now. Outside temperature:24’C, inside temperatures: 24’C. Can someone please tell me what this thing is doing while consuming my electricity? Either this unit is defective or this is a scam. The dehumidifier is also a joke. Doesn’t seem to do much.

So far this is the worst air conditioner I have ever bought. I will contact the support and update the review.

Customer service is almost non-existent. I call Honeywell, wait on the line for 15 minutes. Nothing, I hang up. I then contact Honeywell via Chat and someone named "Shivam" answers, most probably in India. They passed me to another company that supposedly manufactures this AC and just sticks Honeywell brand on it. First contact they gave me was the wrong one (time wasted: 25 minutes). I call the second contact and wait another 10 minutes for someone to answer. They say they only support USA so they give me another number in Canada. I call the Canadian support company and I just get a voicemail and they ask me to leave a message! Total time wasted so far: One hour.

    Update July 17, 2018
I was able to return the item to Amazon. Thank you Amazon for the great customer service.

    Update July 27, 2018
The Canadian support centre affiliated with Honeywell never returned my call. I have no words!

I will NEVRY EVER buy anything that has Honeywell written on it again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only cool great. Dehumidifier dont work as advertised, no controls for dehumidifier mode.

    Bad part 1:

Got this for Montreal humid months. 3 in 1 function is not true. The dehumidifier doesnt have a control setting. You cannot set the humidity level. This machine works on its on wishes when its on dehumidifier mode. Switches on and off, god knows on what parameters. In a nutshell there is no humidostat if that whats called for humidity. I have a humidostat on my wall from honeywell itself and it doesnt seem to show a reduction in humidity levels. So this unit is 2 in 1 in reality. I might also return this because, I was looking for dehumidifier because in Montreal we have humid summers.

    Bad part 2:

Honeywell should realize that we live in homes with horizontal sliding windows mostly. The kit they give is for vertical windows. So thats completely useless. So be prepared to spent more for a kit to install on your horizontal sliding window. You will have to buy extra covering or foam seal tapes for sure. I understand that Honeywell should sell off the parts that they have manufactured in bulk. But as consumer, be aware of this little "cutting the corner" from HoneyWell.

    Good parts:

Now to the good parts. The machine is a beast and it cools a 650sq ft hands down. Note that you should use circulator fans for other rooms to get the cool air through, else it cools only the room that its in. Not a product problem that is.

So if you are looking for cooling. This is the machine. But not a dehumidifier. So in my opinion the price is a bit steep because the dehumidifier is not working as advertised and there is no controls for dehumidifier mode.

4.0 out of 5 stars It works good enough in my bachelor apartment in Toronto summer

It works good enough in my bachelor apartment in Toronto summer .

Things to keep in mind about this AC...

    - It looks like a dual hose AC , it looks like it could be used as one , but it is not supposed to be used as one , the manufacturer will void the warranty if one uses it as dual hose AC.
    - Because it is not a dual hose AC it will suck in air from everywhere in the apartment and blow it out which makes it less efficient than a real 2 hose AC .
    - The remote control works in a very narrow angle and is a little odd to use. It is like they tried to replicate the user panel of the AC onto the remote control.

The window mounting bracket worked fine , it is adjustable to different window sizes.
One does not need to have a hose connected to the drip collector , it is closed by a plug and screw on plug retainer. depending on the humidity , one needs to empty the collector with a a flat dish/bowl.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good unit

This is a very good unit for anyone looking for a dual vent model (there are unfortunately very few of them available on the market). I have rated it 4 stars instead of 5 for two main reasons. First, the front cover panel is prone to noisy vibrations and may require tape to be added at some locations around its periphery to keep them under control. Secondly, the self-emptying condensation water pan works great most of the time but I had once a totally unexpected significant water overflow during one hot (Canadian!) summer day. This leak occurred without any warning under the a/c mode and there is no easy way of knowing the actual water level other than opening the bottom drain plug... I wished an alarm or shut-off device was included. There is a mid-level water drain outlet (closed by default) for continuous water drainage and, to be on a safe side, I now use it all the time rather than relying on the self-drainage feature. The condensation water now flows out directly into a water drain.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than most.

This is a really good AC unit. Im using it in a space that is larger than the recommended size. It cools the immediate great, but not very far outside of the recommended space. It is quiet for a portable AC unit, but it still make some noise. If it is in the same room with a TV, it can be hard to hear the TV.
