Good product, but too-tight nut keeps a consumer from swapping the blade for the trimmer head.
The engine is good, starts fairly easily, runs smooth. Be sure to use no-ethanol fuel and oil mix or buy the pre-mixed fuel.My problem was with the brushcutter blade; if you are a regular person with a decent set of normal household tools, chances are you will not be able to remove the brushcutter blade to put the trimmer head on. That's the whole reason I bought this, so I could easily use one or the other. Note - the nut/shaft that holds the blade on is reverse threaded, so you turn clockwise (righty) to loosen. The shaft rod they supply to keep it from spinning is a tad too thick, so it needs to be hammered into place. I started off with a socket wrench... no dice. Moved on to a pair of pliers, nothing. Put a 10" pipe wrench on it, all I did was tear up the nut. I'm 6' tall, 245 lbs, so not a small guy, and this thing wouldn't move, even putting all my upper body into it.I called MTD for some help - their "escalation" guy told me the manual was wrong, that you need to follow righty-tighty-lefty-loosy. It's not wrong. The threads are indeed reversed, so left to tighten, right to loosen. They sent me a whole new unit, but it wouldn't loosen either. So here's what you do. Save yourself the headache and just go down to your local Ace hardware or equipment repair shop, and have them do it with a Stihl shaft lock rod and a torque wrench. It will take them about 10 minutes and you're out.Photos - One shows the hex nut chewed up from the pipe wrench. The other is the shaft locking rod, bent from the force I was applying trying to loosen that nut.

This trimmer is essentially a head/power unit with a "TrimmerPlus" brush cutter attachment. From my research the absolute cheapest way to get into a brush cutter at this price point.
The first one I received bogged from idle (carb out of adjustment) - and since the EPA has jacked up standard carb adjustment screws (remember when all you needed was a screwdriver?) I just returned it instead of buying a set of carb tools. Amazon was great about the replacement - and the second ones runs fine.
I was not too impressed with it until I replaced the blade with a Renegade 8" blade. Cuts like a beast now - I've felled 4" trees with it (although the blade did get bound a few times).
Yes - it's kinda' on the cheapish side but I don't run it professionally - comparable to the $129.00 (cheapest) Ryobi at the big box stores - and then you have to buy (another $70.00) the brush cutter attachment -
I've run it for about 20 hours so far - the top plastic housing does get hot (and will occasionally contact your forearm) but nearly as bad as my old Ryobi curved shaft strimmer. The weak link, IMO, is the J handle - not particularly comfortable and does not lend itself well to changing the hold on the shaft (for cutting up/above your waist, for example).
All in all a good deal if it lasts -
UPDATE 4/28/19: So 2 years later and it's still running! I'm using pre-mixed fuel in it (to minimize stabilizer/ethanol/carburetor issues) and have transitioned from the blade mentioned above to a Pivotrim Rino head (3 lines) and Gator Magnum .95 square line. Still cuts like a beast and starts after 4-5 pulls. Installed a slip-on shoulder pad on the strap. STILL a good deal - added a star because I originally figured it would have died by now based on how cheap I thought it was when I got it...
UPDATE 7/3/19: Installed a TrimmerPlus" TPP720 Pole Saw attachment and (since it's all MTD anyway...) - it fits perfectly and works/cuts like a champ. Powerhead still going strong - so far so good.

Used for about 3hrs - worked well enough with stock blade. The stock blade is not dull - it has a thick coating of paint or enamel which wears away during use, revealing a sharper edge. I will report back after trying the Renegade blade today. Worst thing about it is the weight. Not very ergonomic. Overall good value so far for the money.

Easiest way to remove blade is to stand it up. This way you can use your body weight to pull downward. Couldn't break it loose lying down, nut broke easy doing this way. Well, not super easy - but easy enough.

UPDATE ON UNIT: This is a solid tool for the money. It's started right up for me every time, gets thru the stuff.
UPDATE ON RENEGADE BLADE. It does cut well, but it can bind some if debris gets between the blade and the guard. In my opinion, the stock blade is better just for that reason - never had it bind.

I love Remington brand. Even though I have a farm, I like my stuff color coordinated. Sue me! All my tools are orange haha! I have the little brother to this as a trimmer. It's straight shaft, works great.

The cutter that this comes with works wonders. Yes, a better blade helps, but I haven't swapped mine out yet. It'll cut small saplings as is.

The trimmer head is NOT an attachment. It is just the head and requires you to switch it out. Honestly, I bought this one for the 27cc motor and will not use the trimmer u less my other goes down. I bought this to add attachments.

BUY IT.

I am so happy with this little vacuum. It is light weight which is just what I need but a lot of power. Easy to use and lots of attachments for reaching and getting under furniture. Taking apart to clean is no problem. Small enough so its easy to pull out any time to use. Not good on a shag rug but on low rugs and floors its great.
