    All around awesome game!
I received this game free of charge from Spin Master as part of a promotion so I could provide my opinion on the product, even if I had not received it for free, it is something I would buy for game night. 5 of us played the first level called Prison Break tonight. Our ages range from 17-35 years old. It was a blast and really made us think things out. None of us had ever payed a board game like this although we have all been wanting to try and escape room for a while.First of all the game comes packaged really nicely in all 4 scenarios are clearly marked. You are only supposed to open the scenarios in order and one at a time. I would suggest you completely read the instructions before you play and allow plenty of time for instructions and set up before starting the timer. The scenario is timed for 1 hour each, and they get progressively harder to solve. The prison break scenario is the one we did. It had 3 parts and for us the second part was the hardest. You do get hints with each section though that make it easier to get through. However at one point we were stuck and the one hint we got just gave the answer but didn't explain how to get it. That made it to where we were still stuck figuring out the rest of the clue on how to solve for the other half of the answer. I feel like it would have been better to give hints on how to work out the formula used. The Chrono Decoder takes 3 AA batteries that are not included so be prepared, you have to have them in order to play. The decoder has the timer on it and I thought it was really cool that it gives you a "ding" when it's time to read the next hint. Also make sure each person has a pen or pencil and plenty of scrap paper to work out their ideas, math problems, ect.The game is very well made and the scenario we played was great. it is definitely made for older teens/adults. There are math equations, and puzzles that I am not sure younger kids may have learned yet. I would say use your own judgement as there are some kids with better math skills then adults. I gave it a 4/5 for the single fact that you can only play each scenario one time. For me that does make the price point of $40 a little high. However I did see that they are planning to make expansion packs so that is a plus. Our next game night we will play the second scenario "Virus" and I plan on going to the website and downloading their app so that we can have the thematic music to play in the background.

I confess I did not have high expectations for this product. My family absolutely loves the challenge of physical escape rooms, and I wasn’t sure that the same level of difficulty or fun could be replicated in a box. However, it typically costs my family of four about $100 to visit an escape room, so I figured why not give it a try. I’m so glad I did! The detail and complexity of these tasks rival actual escape rooms, and the online features are a plus. Heads up: We were not able to view the walk through until selecting “Australian” from the drop-down menu.

The suggested age is 16+, and I think this is a good recommendation. My 15 year old was very engaged, but my 13 year old was a bit frustrated with some of it. The contents and text of some puzzles are VERY small, so it was a bit difficult for the four of us to gather around and see well. I recommend having a magnifying glass (or at least a pair of reading glasses) close at hand.

The Chrono Decoder is a nice touch. Makes the experience less like a board game and more like an adventure.

Highly recommended! I will be purchasing any future editions for sure!

Great fun! This is a thinking person’s game and is amazingly fun! That having been said a few words of advice. You need a very well lit table with plenty of room for folks to lean over to examine the evidence. You are basically looking at posters of rooms laid out on the table. Some of the clues are VERY small. That isn’t a problem for me but it might be a good idea to have a magnifying glass available for players. You will need notepads and pencils for all the players. To install the batteries (3AA) you will need a tiny screwdriver like you use for eyeglasses. The game goes by amazingly quickly and is challenging without being frustrating. (Although it might be for children younger than high school age) It took our group of four 51 minutes to get through the first “room” using the hint cards. It was a blast and will definelty be on game night rotation.

Unlike everyone else on this board, I did not get this game for free. In fact, I paid $100 for it! And I would STILL give it 5 stars. My wife and I play lots of escape rooms and we went into this with low expectations (especially having played Star Gazer's Manor). But what we found was a very fun and impressive facsimile of a real escape room. Nearly every puzzle was well thought out and clever. Only one puzzle in the final room (Temple) required a bit of a leap of logic and the hint didn't really help us.

I very much liked that each "room" had a printed out image with multiple puzzles to solve. The chronodecoder was an ingenious invention and was an awesome was to answer the puzzles. We downloaded the app to have theme music too!

Overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes real escape rooms, or has thought about trying them. Even having paid twice as much for it (ack... my heart) I still think it was a great game.

Can't wait for the expansion packs!

When writing this post, I have only played the first two rooms with this set. I have to say that this was a skeptical buy (i also bought the expansions) and i'm extremely satisfied with the way it goes. I underestimated the puzzles and the number of people to do it with. I did them both with a group of 3, and i think thats the lowend. I definitely recommend this game if you're a fanatic of escape rooms. I have done plenty of escape rooms in USA and Canada, and ofcourse nothing like running around a room, putting yourself in potentially scary situations, but the level of puzzles comparatively are the same! Strongly recommend. Can't wait to play the rest and I heard that two more expansions are being released this year(2017): Casino and Space Station. Will definitely be purchasing those.

Also little note: you can reprint the stuff that you are supposed to destroy in the game which allows you to pass this on and let others enjoy it as well.

Will be trying the Exit The Game escape room series next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the “Escape Room” Games!
Reviewed in Canada on August 12, 2018

I’ve played all the major “escape room” style boxed games, and this series is my favorite by far. The story, props, and puzzles are really good. Yes, there are a couple of puzzles that are weak and annoying, but most of them are a ton of fun and very satisfying to solve! If you get stuck, do an internet search for the story name and part to get clues and answers.

We played with only two players and had a blast. We are pretty experienced with word puzzles, logic puzzles, and simple math puzzles, and that probably helped. Out of all the stories, the first three are really good, with our favorite being Nuclear Countdown. The last story, the pyramid/temple one, was our least favorite.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent & refreshing concept that fails in places but still worthwhile (spoiler free)

5 stars for originality and tense, nail biting fun. But 3 stars for quality of components and weird balancing of some puzzles.

This game is really refreshing. While you can only play each scenario once it makes a wonderful party atmosphere if you are having a dinner party.

You get a digital chrono decoder which is like an enigma machine with built in timer and speaker that plays ambient music. You need to use the parts on this machine to solve some puzzles which is a nice touch and it also acts as an interface whereby you plug in the code chips into the top slots to see if you have guessed correct or it will dock you one minute.

The puzzles are generally excellent and very thought provoking. But then there are some that make no real sense and require a weird sense of lateral thinking but thankfully you have prompt cards that you can reveal at certain time intervals if you get really stuck.

I have a few peeves about it though. Mainly in and around the sacrificial components that you need to draw on. You can reprint the files from their website but it is a major hassle so why oh why didn't they use laminated sheets and a dry wipe marker. This is something you can make yourself before you donate the game to a friend but it would have been a valuable insight for them to make.

Another rage inducing issue is one of the Nuclear Countdown puzzles only works if you live in the U.S. which caused us to fail. I won't say what but it drove us to insanity and customer services will be getting a message from me shortly!!!

Anyway, Overall - I consider it to be a wonderful idea and with 2 expansions out already it increases the longevity so I would only buy if you are willing to post-modify the game components (by laminating them) and are happy to play each game once. When you think it is only a tenner for a group of people to have fun for an hour so I recommend it.

Got two of these for a Halloween party so I could have teams compete against each other as well as the clock. It was two separate groups of about 6 adults and everyone was able to participate and have fun. I should note, the pieces and clues are small so many of us took pictures with our smartphones and worked together. No one worked alone and we used the input of everyone to move the game forward.

The smallness of the clue sizes is the only drawback for trying to play with a group of adults otherwise, it would have been 5-stars.
