I have but the ultimate vacuum tube tester. I used a classic design, the Triplett 3444, and added regulated power supplies to all voltages and added sockets for newer tubes. This rack enabled my modular design to go together very well. The bidirectional swing-open feature is really nice as I can work on the project from either side without disassembling everything.

Pay attention to the other reviews, they speak the truth. Everything I'm writing below has been mentioned already.

Assembly instructions are minimal, but it's not rocket science to figure out. Anodizing on the threads is an issue. During assembly I had to use my hammer drill to drive a few fasteners. It was either that or get out the taps.

Yes, mounting holes are spaced wider than 16" on center. If I had to mount this to an existing finished wall I would through bolt it to some 3/4" plywood then mount the entire mess up that way. In my case I had an unfinished wall in my basement so I simply sistered up a scrap 1x4 spacer then a scrap 2x4 on top of that to an existing stud. Then the spacing is perfect. I hung it with some GRK 1/4x2.5" structural screws and fender washers--very strong!

I don't know why anyone bothers with the stupid cage nuts. You don't get enough of them anyway. The front piece has square hole rail on one side and 12-24 threaded holes on the other. I installed mine so I could use 12-24 rack screws. Easy peasy, no stupid cage nuts. These holes also have some anodizing in them but I never had to resort to power tools or a tap.

Bottom line: if you are only doing one of these for a home or small office project, the cost savings are worth the extra time to fuss with it. Once you get it together and up, and buy some 12-24 rack screws, it's a very nice rack and it will certainly hold 50lbs if you don't want to swing it open.

Worked perfect for mounting sound equipment for my church. Swing out option is too awesome for connecting wiring. Screws are definitely cheap and the heads will strip out easily if you don’t have enough pressure on. I had to mount 3/4” plywood to the wall and the mount spacing is 19” and doesn’t line up with 16” centered wall studs. Securing the plywood to the stud makes it easy to mount this anywhere on drywall. Very happy and it seems to be very sturdy even will all of this weight mounted on it. It definitely should come with more rack screws and nuts so if you’re purchasing this I would buy extra.

So far it's better than expected. Went together well, very sturdy on the wall. I used four 1/4" concrete anchors to mount it in my basement.
The only issue so far has been the brass inserts for the pivots keep falling out of the top when I swing the door.

Once the thing is mounted, and with the frame closed up, this thing is solid. Easy to assemble. There is room for improvement however.

Definitely seriously consider whether you need the rack to swing out. I thought I did, but the implementation makes it not really worth having. With the rack empty, it's quite awkward to release the top and bottom latches at the same time. If the rack is fully populated, or just if you have devices in the top and bottom positions, it makes reaching the latches for the swing-out frame impossible to reach. Keep this in mind, because losing 1U each on top and bottom of a rack that is already just 9U is substantial. Ideally the latches would be accessible from the outside of the rack. In addition, if you swing the frame out, the stability of the whole thing is compromised and with enough weight, the side that is still latched can pop out (the frame can be opened from either the left side or the right side). Just not worth it.

In addition, the lack of horizontal braces at the back of the rack complicates things when trying to mount to a wall with 16" stud spacing, requiring spome kind of reinforcement that is mounted into studs for the rack to screw into. However if the rack had horizontal braces with screw holes in them, it would be significantly easier to mount on the wall since the width of the rack does span across studs.

Keep in mind also that this unit does not come with any screws for actually mounting to the wall. I think that's fine given that there may be a lot of different ways users may want to mount this, but something to be aware of.

With all that being said, it is heavily built and sturdy when the frame is closed, and it still feels like a good value even discounting the swing out feature. I'd give it 3.5 stars if that was an option.

It's sturdy. And it holds up my servers and their hardware.

But its door opening functionally.. thing.. is pretty awful. They don't swing freely *at all* (even without load; good luck with). I ended up having to tap the pins in place with a hammer and then just treat it like a permanently affixed piece because there is no opening that ever again.

It'll work, but if I went back in time to buy this again, I wouldn't.
