Great Vacuum Sealer at a Great Price
The Anova Precision Vacuum sealer is a great product. I have had mine for a couple of years now and it works the same today as when I bought it. I like it so much I ordered one ordered on for my sister as a gift. There are many bag options available on Amazon also. I find this method of storing items much better than ZipLock bags. This is a great way to prepare your food using a Sous Vide method of cooking. Google Sous Vide if you don't know what it is. We have used this to vacuum seal clothes to pack for trips also.

I purchased an Anova Sous VIde about a year ago and I love it. You haven't lived until you try sous vide chicken breasts....yum. Everything else comes out perfect too....filet mignon is a dream. But....since then I was using ziplock bags that I purchased in the grocery story. Yes, I saw that even the manufacturer did not recommend them for sous vide and I read about all the leaching of chemicals into the food, but heck, they were inexpensive and handy. As I continued my journey into sous vide world however, I started to want to cook veggies too....and you absolutely cannot do those in a store bought bag. Also about two months ago, one of my bags broke in the water.....so I finally gave in and started researching vacuum sealers and there are a ton of them out there. After two weeks of reading reviews I settled on two brands (neither was the Food Saver) and finally picked the Anova. Part of this was brand loyalty and part was that the Anova sealer was just made for sealing. No wine bottle tube, no six buttons on top....just a simple vacuum sealer and that is what I wanted. It also had the advantage of size, it fit in the drawer I had for it. It is about the size of a wax paper box. I am now on week two and I love it. We are a small household and I am now sealing all the extra chicken etc. that comes in the packages. If you read Serious Eats you know that you can just plunk a couple of frozen vacuum sealed chicken breasts (or any meat) into the sous vide and just give it an extra 20 minutes on the timer to cook....convenience at its best. If I change my mind for any reason, I will update this post, but as of right now.....this is a great machine for the price and I highly recommend it.

I bought this about a year ago, then never got around to using it. Just took it out of the box for the first time and it’s really greasy, like it has been used. It did not come with instructions. It also does not work. It will not turn on at all. So basically a waste of money and nothing I can do about it. Obviously, it was a return.
Update: changed to 5 stars. I contacted the company directly and they had me return it directly to them. Then sent me a brand new one. They got back to me very quickly and the new one works perfectly!

I mostly use this for storing meats in the freezer, and it works well for that purpose (does not work with marinated meats, obliviously).

Only complaint is that it mentioned that it comes with 10 precut bags, which we did not receive. Amazon says to contact Anova for missing parts. I contacted Anova, and they said that they do not offer support for purchases through Amazon. Not really sure how to resolve this.

This sealer is so much better than our last one, which was a Seal-a-Meal that was not much different in price. The fact that the lid of this one locks in place and you don't have to hold it down like the other one is worth it right there. The suction is somewhat slow, I think, but no biggie, I guess, since you are just standing there staring at it while it does its thing. Nothing fancy, just a really nice vacuum sealer at a competitive price. We do a lot of sous vide and have a meat freezer in the garage, so this thing has already got a lot of use. Hope it lasts a long time!

Was inspired to look at small vacuum sealers by one of those TV ads for a competing product where you pay 3.99 a month and get the steak knives thrown in. Found Anova on Amazon, digested the various reviews and got one, and it has rapidly become a standard part of our kitchen routine. The small size is a winner - it stores along with the rolls of parchment papers and foils, and is always ready without using a lot of storage space or being hard to set up. I just use 8" WEVAC rolled bag material which lets you tailor the length. Packing things with some liquid content needs a bit of practice: I use a longer bag so that there are 2 " or more of clear space above the content and then pulse vacuum until the liquid is just about to hit the machine, and get good results. For some squishy things, like balls of pizza dough or berries, I freeze them on a baking tray before vacuum packing. Not sure how long it will last: it seems a bit plasticky, but it will have soon paid for itself in better use of cooked and uncooked leftovers.

Full disclosure here... I've used chamber vac sealers for the last 20 years. Dip type, chamber etc. I also own a vacmaster commercial chamber sealer at home.
Now... I needed one for the cottage (the vacmaster is ~80lbs... not good for travelling). For sealing meats etc when deals are good. also for sousvide and other stuff. So....
This unit does the job fantastically. Great suction, solid seals and good duty cycle (i.e. 5-20 seals at a go). No issues so far and I'm about 100 seals in. Considering Anova and the other products I have from them (support etc)... I highly recommend. Does it have a holder for bags? no. Does it have an aux port? yes! Does it have a cutter? No. The seal process relies on you clipping down both sides with physical clips... GOOD choice Anova. Does it require proprietary (i.e. only from Anova) bags? No.
In summary.... worth every penny.

This unit is much more compact and lighter than the earlier model. It is much easier to use. With the old one, you inserted the end of the bag into a slot. In theory, when the edge of the bag got to the back of the slot, the machine would start evacuating/sealing. In practice, I could spend 15 minutes pushing the bag in and out of the slot trying to get the machine to start. With this one, you open the machine, position the end of the bag, close the machine, press button for evac/seal or only seal. Works every time.

One thing I do miss is the cutter on the old machine. With new machine, you have to cut bag with scissors and the cut has to be very straight or the bag will not evacuate.

One slight ergonomic problem. When you want to evacuate, the end of the bag has to be over the trough. With the other end of the bag resting on the counter, the end inside the machine is tilted up. You can't hold the outside end up because it takes two hands (one at each end of the unit) to close it. If the inner end is tilted up when the unit is closed, it may not seal properly. A workaround is to place the outer end on a piece of 2 X 2 wood to keep the whole bag level.
