Product Description

From the scientist duo behind True or Poo?, their original New York Times bestselling sensation--a scientifically precise, fully illustrated, utterly hilarious guide to animal flatulence.

Dogs do it. Millipedes do it. Dinosaurs did it. You do it. I do it. Octopuses don't (and nor do octopi). Spiders might do it: more research is needed. Birds don't do it, but they could if they wanted to. Herrings do it to communicate with each other.

In 2017 zoologist Dani Rabaiotti's teenage brother asked her a most teenaged question: Do snakes fart? Stumped, Rabaiotti turned to Twitter. The internet did not disappoint. Her innocent question spawned the hashtag #doesitfart and it spread like a noxious gas. Dozens of noted experts began weighing in on which animals do and don't fart, and if they do, how much, how often, what it's made of, what it smells like, and why.

Clearly, the public demands more information on animal farts. Does it Fart? fills that void: a fully authoritative, fully illustrated guide to animal flatulence, covering the habits of 80 animals in more detail than you ever knew you needed.

What do hyena farts smell especially bad? What is a fossa, and does it fart? Why do clams vomit but not fart? And what is a fart, really? Pairing hilarious illustrations with surprisingly detailed scientific explanations, Does it Fart? will allow you to shift the blame onto all kinds of unlikely animals for years to come.

Like the UK edition, but with fewer "U"s

Does It Fart breaks into the SciComm world near silently but is destined to have a devastating impact. Unlike many long-winded science tomes written by gasbags that leave you looking like you smell something unpleasant, Does It Fart cuts through the cheesy attempts at science humor leaving a vapor trail behind it. The authors and illustrator weave humor, science fact, and a bit of fiction into a fruity bouquet that amounts to much more than a hill of beans.

GREAT book! My children are obsessed with it!
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)

I bought this for my 6 year old who is as girly as can be but is currently obsessed with potty humor. I knew that this would be educational and take a scientific look at animal gut functions, however the look on her face when she read the title was priceless. She immediately broke into a fit of giggles and ran into her big sisters (10) room to read it. She's had it for a week now and literally carries it around everywhere she goes. Her and her sister sit in the back of the car reading over the facts of all the animals out loud and laughing over the strange oddities of the animal world. It's also been great for my 10 year old (who does the majority of the reading) because many large scientific terms, words, phrases and classifications are used, so her vocabulary is expanding immensely while reading this book. I always stop explain to her what the big words are when she's reading out loud and I hear her sound something out that she's never read before. This book has definitely turned out to be a great buy! Funny, educational, scientific, and is greatly expanding the vocabulary of my oldest while providing fun and interesting facts about how various animals insides function in relation to their particular diets and environments.

Fantastic for all ages but particularly for kids

Fantastic! I purchased this book for my 4-year-old and 12-year-old sons. They LOVE it! My four year old has learned to read the word "yes," "no," and "maybe" thanks to this book and asked to read it at least once a week at bedtime. He has learned about species he had never heard of before and been prompted to ask a lot of great questions. My 12-year-old takes the book, curls up on his bed, and reads it front to back while regularly laughing under his breath and shouting "did you know (insert animal) farts??!" and "what is a (insert animal name)? It's so great. I think it should be in every classroom and in every home. It is fun and interesting on its own and, as all great science should, leads to more questions and exploration.

Educational and FUN! Love it!

This was a gift I gave my 45-year-old son! Yes, they never leave the fart phase. ;) But this book is actually filled with very interesting info ... lots of science written in an entertaining fashion. And the simple illustrations fit perfectly. I admit that I read it before giving it to my son. He will now be the most popular teacher on his high school campus because ... hey, who else knows that sloths don't fart? LOL! If you're looking for something different for a gift, consider this. I think I'm going to order another one!

Funny and informative!

How can I explain how awesome this book is? I buy my little brother (okay, he's 31 and not so little) anything I can that makes me chuckle that doesn't have a high price tag and I send it directly to him without telling him it's coming. This has become a tradition and usually, it has something to do with farts. First it was a Magical Creatures farting coloring book, then an essential oil named 'Monkey Farts,' (he loves monkeys) then this, and following this, a book about wild animals farting in the wilderness. Basically, he now has a fart collection I've sent him randomly throughout the past few years. He recently told me he is always flustered when dates come over and he has to explain why he has so many references to farting all over his condo (I call this a big sister win!) Now that he has a girlfriend, I plan on sending many more fart themed items to make sure she's cool enough for my little brother.

As for the book: it's informative, funny, and based in whatever science exists on the subject, so it's a definite recommend from me! My brother brought it to my house for Thanksgiving and read us some of it after telling the story of how he comes home to get his mail and often questions what the hell and who in the world would send him such ridiculous items (he is now sure it's always me, but now our mom and dad have gotten in on the fun too....hahahaha.)

Cute!

Does it Fart is great! It's pretty serious in its tone, but the illustrations are pretty cute and outright funny (see my pic). I think this is going to be a really good gift for my niece and nephew. They're pretty smart so I like that there are bigger words in there (malodorous), and some actual scientific facts instead of a bunch of fart jokes. There's even a section on the mythical Unicorn- but the conclusion (I'll leave it to you to read it) is based on science. I was surprised to find out my favorite animal (well, actually this is not a mammal so to speak, but I digress), the octopus, does not in fact fart at all. For those of you who remember the good old meme of the honey badger, it is listed in this book. I don't know why amazon is saying I haven't received the book yet though... uhh, I have had it for days guys!!

Perfect Gift for Curious Kids!
by J (5 out of 5 stars)
October 29, 2018

Honestly, it never occurred to me whether animals farted or not until my nephew asked me and I didn't have any answers, so I was delighted when I found this book existed while looking for a different gift for someone else! This book is perfect for curious kids (or adults) who care about animals... and also how much they do or do not fart. Kids love to ask weird questions, but they also love to know weird facts and learn a lot about subjects they're interested in so this is a great gift for kid interested in animals or just to keep on your coffee table for when you want to learn something new that day. It also has cute illustrations for some animals but this is NOT a picture book - the pages are kind of an info dump about the animal and their farts instead.

and this book -- casual science though it is -- was a complete delight for him and his father

I have a science-minded first grader, and this book -- casual science though it is -- was a complete delight for him and his father. They giggled their way through it the first time and my son will still pop up with "did you know...." Great fun book.

A Silly, Yet Fun Book Full Of Gaseous Facts
by Frederick S. Goethel (5 out of 5 stars)
June 30, 2018

Obviously, the concept of the book is rahter silly? Who really cares which animals pass gas and which don't. My daughter and I are both biologists and I am not sure the question has ever been raised by either of us. That said, it is an interssting look into the world or creatures that surround us. The auhtors give fun facts about the animals in the book that are more in depth than whether they are flatulent. So, for a fun read...maybe to kill a long flight, this book is excellent.
