Product Description
The Snail Soup Can Decoy to keep the candy stash safe. The Customizable “Keep Out” Sign to deter meddlesome siblings and parents. A Bunk Bed Communicator made from cardboard tubes (“Psst! Can you keep the snoring down?”). Clever, whimsical, and kind of genius, here are 67 unique projects that will turn any dad with DIY leanings into a mad scientist hero that his kid(s) will adore.
No screens, no hi-tech gadgetry. Made by Dad combines the rough-edged, handmade ethos of a Boy Scout manual or The Dangerous Book for Boys with a sly sense of humor that kids love. Scott Bedford, a creative director by day and Webby Award–winning blogger by nights and weekends, wields an X-ACTO knife, magic marker, and prodigious imagination to create endlessly delightful projects for his two sons. He knows that kids like contraptions and gadgets, things that are surprising―a chair that appears to be balanced on eggshells. Things that are complex―a multilevel city, with buildings, tunnels, and roads, built from old boxes around the legs of a table. And especially things with humor―the Snappy Toast Rack, made to resemble a crocodile’s gaping mouth.
The projects are shown in full-color photographs, and the instructions are illustrated in detailed line drawings that exude personality. Some are quick and simple enough to be done in a coffee shop; others are more of an afternoon project― yielding hours and hours of rich, imaginative playtime.

every project is essentially cutting and gluing cardboard to make a "toy"by Happy mommy (1 out of 5 stars)

every single project in this book is the same stupid thing.
1. Get a bunch of cardboard
2. Spend a ton of time making intricate cuts and drawings
3. glue and tape it together
4. Pretend you and your kid are having fun
None of these projects are things you can do with your kid
Don't let your kids pick the projects!

I checked this out of the library as my 4 and 7 y/o grandsons like to make things with me and grandpa. I gave it to them with sticky notes to pick the ones they wanted to do. It can back with almost every page marked! So I decided to buy it. Many of the projects require materials that I don't have around the house, but are easily obtainable. Not good for a spur of the moment rainy day activity. Would recommend.

This was purchased as a gift for my husband when we were expecting our first son. They have only done a few of the smaller things together so far but my husband loves it! There are so many fun crafts/experiments to choose from. My husband is not the craftiest type so this book was a great one stop shop for father/son ideas.

My son got this when he was six and has been pouring over the blueprints for almost a year. We have built a few of the projects and they are so much fun. You don't have to be an artist as long as you aren't a perfectionist. Let kids draw how they like and they will have a great time. I also bought a similar book that is a mom version, but it doesn't have as many pictures. I think he will like it better when he is older. For now, kid, dad AND mom are having a great time with this book.

This is a really cool book, but a lot of the things in here will take a TON of supplies and work to accomplish. Not really a fun afternoon thing. They will take all day rounding up supplies (people don't just have this stuff lying around), and then actually making it. But, honestly...the kids and their stepdad are looking forward to making more things out of this book.

Not what we thought. We were hoping for some cool building projects (for father and son) and it was more arts and crafts based. My husband is not artsy, so back it went. Would be great for someone who is artistic.

Got this for use with my grandson. I can see that as he gets older, this will be a fun, go-to book for all things cool. If you want to teach your kids (and yourself) a few things and have lots of fun in the process, get this book. It's neatly organized, each project has a difficulty rating and the diagrams are awesome. There are some really amazing ideas in there.
The older they get, the less cool Dad becomes

There is some good stuff in here, but it would go over a lot better with younger kids. I gifted mine to a relative with an 8 year old, who would probably find the crafts and projects a bit cooler than my kids. Even younger than that is probably an even better fit.
