Very fun - great gift idea for a variety of folks!by I'm Erika -- Trust Me. (5 out of 5 stars)

This book is great for kids because it has lots of fun pictures to go with the topics, and it's also great for adults because it has lots of fun pictures to go with the topics. Hehe!
If you've ever wanted to know the best way to escape quick sand, you'll finally know after reading this book. It's comical at times, frank at others, and all around light reading.
I gave a couple copies away at Christmas this year (to the boys in my family) and EVERYONE was pawing at it before the nights end, wanting to learn the most efficient ways to survive this thing called life... when you happen to be stuck out on your own in the African bush or somewhere similar. ;)
Really - a fun gift for someone you may not know too well, and a great gift for the youthful bunch in your own family. I recommend!

I love it when I can find something for everyone, this book was the gift for all of the guys on my Christmas list one year well over a decade ago and everyone loved it! In fact, my brothers, uncles, and coursins quote it all the time and it's such a fun reference that when someone becomes 'part of the group' or 'part of the family' or 'of age' they receive a copy as a Christmas gift, it has become a very funny, tongue-in-cheek right of passage. All the guys consider themselves part of a club based on their copy :)
entertaining and informative

I ordered this book for my Kindle after having seen it around for years. I enjoy non-fiction books like this and this did not disappoint. As you read you can see how Man vs. Wild derived from it, although the book could use a little more levity; I found it a little dry in that regard. As I read it I wondered whether, if faced with these situations, I'd be able to remember and apply what the book describes. In that sense it gets your heart pumping a little as you visualize yourself in these situations. I think this is a great gift book for a guy; not terribly expensive, an easy read, entertaining.
Awesome, fun, informative book.

Interesting book to have in your car. Great for reading a page or two while waiting around. Also some of the advice is batshit insane and very situational but that's sorta the point.
Great for Many Things - Including a Laugh

I must say - I got a big kick out of this book. While I don't question its credibility (the authors name all of their sources (experts in their respective fields) in the back of the book) I had a hard time not laughing at some of the instructions. Even if I never use any of the instructions in the book, it will be worth the money I paid for the laughs I got.
It is also very interesting. A lot of the situations are those one would expect to find in your typical action movie. To compare how this book says to execute a maneuver and how they are executed on TV or in a movie is interesting.
If you're an outdoorsman, a computer scientist, a homemaker, or a person who knows how to read and has a sense of humor, I would recommend this book as something to at least skim over sometime.

I bought this book for my son for Christmas. He is 10 and his favorite TV show is the Deadliest Warrior. He likes the survival shows as well as Mythbusters. This book is right up his alley. He has showed me many tricks he learned from it. He recently took it camping with him. It is a good fun book to get kids reading who might not otherwise pick up a book, but it is also interesting to me. I enjoy reading through it as well. I think it would work well for a gift for people of all ages. I gave it five stars because it is exactly what it says it is, and I am very satisfied in in. Great value and great gift.
A "Real Man's Guide to Life's Little Battles"

As a contributor to this book (unpaid) I was rewarded by the authors with an autographed copy. Upon opening it I was delighted with what could only be described as a "What would I do?" guide for potential Walter Mittys.
How to take a headpunch, how to wrestle an alligator/shark, how to avoid gunfire, how to escape quicksand, how to land a plane, how to jump out of a moving car, how to get onto a moving freight train and how to survive a sinking automobile (my contribution) are but a few of the entertainingly written and illustrated topics.
What guy, sitting in a darkened theater watching Arnold, Sly or John Wayne for that matter, hasn't wondered "How would I get out of (or survive) that situation?" This book answers them all!
I purchased several copies for male friends and family members who I know all secretly want to go on a search and destroy mission with Chuck Norris or dig for buried treasure with Indiana Jones.
Not worth the money . . .

As something to flip through while browsing in the book store, this is okay. Just okay. Out of all the possible scenarioes these guys could've chosen they chose stuff like, "How to Take a Punch"? "What to Do If Bitten by a Snake"? YAWN! In this thin (!) book, the authors Piven and Borgenicht tell you in a straightforward manner what to do in certain life-and-death situations. The authors add no humor or life to their topic. They just lay it out as if they were writing a manual for the magazine pocket of an airplane seat! "In case of fistfight, lean into the punch. Turn head slightly to cushion blow. Etc., etc." As a gag gift, this might be humorous for about 15 minutes. Then, it will end up in the back of a closet. As anything else, well, it's not worth it.

Great book and fun to read, or just skim through it. It makes a great gift too. Real life scenarios, that most likely you will never use, but I'm sure you will be glad you read it, Just in case.

I am not sure how this happened. Maybe in stow or pick or packing but there was damage to the book and it is a Christmas gift. So a bit disappointed in how my package was handled
