Product Description
From the sarcastic to the suggestive, here are quotation marks as we love them best, doing horrible damage to the English language. Who wouldn't have second thoughts about ordering the "hamburger" on the diner's menu? Would it be best to skip the "blowout" sale at the department store? What hidden price must be paid for something marked "free"? Assembled by the creator of the wildly popular "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks, this book surveys the havoc wreaked by quotation marks on signs, menus, placards, and posters that leave reality upended by supposed "facts." This smarty-pants guide is "perfect" for desperate grammarians, habitual air quoters, and anyone who appreciates a good laugh.Features

Word Nerds Uniteby Branden Johnson (5 out of 5 stars)
October 12, 2015
I'm a word nerd. I mostly wanted to start out this review that way because it rhymes. However, it does help explain why the subject matter of this book appeals so much to me. There's just something about quotation marks, and their rampant misuse, that makes me laugh. The pictures throughout the book are excellent examples of well-meaning people trying and failing to communicate, but the real treat is the commentary provided by the author. Snark is doled out efficiently and with no malice. It never feels like we're laughing AT the writers of these signs and notices. More like we're laughing NEAR them, and hoping they'll see us laughing and decide to laugh along with us.
Well deserving of a place on your bookshelf or coffee table.
Fun Little Book (if you actually look at the pages)

Gave this as a "White Elephant" gift at work. The girl who ended up with it thought it was a book about eggs and most likely tossed it in the trash after our Christmas party.
I read through it before though, and found it quite entertaining.

Funny enough for a read-through, once. Good for an office waiting room maybe, but not a keeper.

Purchased as a funny gift for my grammar stickler sister-in-law. She thought it was great and it got passed around all night.
