Here is the Best book on Fighting the Walking Dead, REALISTICALLYby Dr X (5 out of 5 stars)
June 23, 2016
This is one of the most sensible books available on fighting zombies. It is incredible that almost every book on this topic, including the one by the great man himself, ignores the problem of zombie splatter. Here is an infectious vector with a hyper-deadly disease, and yet authors of books seriously advocate going into battle with a zombie with melee weapons which generate splatter such as blades (swords, machetes etc) or impact weapons (hammers, baseball bats wrapped in barbed fire). In "Fear the Walking Dead" one character coats himself in zombie goo as a disguise. People have micro-cracks in the skin which would readily permit infection. Certainly it is possible to use disease protective clothing, but such suits are both hot, and fragile. Even full cover face masks could still allow zombie goo mist to enter. Hence Mark is spot on with this book.Pistols, as a first-line defense, and stress fire training is the way to go. Even without the zombies, this book teaches you realistic pistol craft. It is a great contribution, which is professionally presented and skillfully edited. Top of the list for those interested in fighting the walking dead, Realistically.
Great read for all that carry a firearm!

I must admit that when I saw the title I almost passed it by, but then I read the sneak preview and was intrigued. I am not what you would call a believer in Zombies. I am however a professional firearms instructor and am always looking for progressive training techniques. If ever the saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover" comes to mind, then this is that book! If zombies are your thing, then that is great, I by no means look to offend anyone that is thinking of purchasing this book because of that interest.
First, I would like to say that the author's training techniques are progressive. Some may read the book and think that they are over the top or even dangerous. Well folks, all live fire training has an element of danger and should be taken seriously. The author covers this over and over throughout the book, SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY, kudos for constantly covering the importance of safety while training.
Second, Mark provides a tiered training system that allows progression in training with a multitude of options, from dry fire to live fire with cost effective options in between. He emphasizes gaining proficiency before moving on to more advanced skills. It is my belief that the ultimate test of "real life" marksmanship is "force on force" training. There is a huge difference between marksmanship training, (shooting from a known stationary distance at a stationary target) and force on force training (shooting on the move at a moving target at different speeds and closing distances) and the author addresses the importance of both.
In conclusion, for those of you that may not believe in zombies but carry firearms for protection, you NEED to read this book! Think about why you carry and what this training entails and just substitute "bad guy" for zombie, the training just makes sense. With all the "tacticool" and "backyard survival" shows and literature out now, very few show what is involved in becoming truly efficient with the tools of the trade. They seem to be more of the "look how cool I am" and "check out all of the top gear my sponsor paid for" type of media. Entertaining, maybe? Informative, barely.
Mark Greenman is a talented writer, he gets his information across in an informative yet entertaining manner. Sound shooting techniques - check. Innovative training options - check. Free targets included in the book - check. Entertaining while being informative - check. What are you waiting for? Get the book!
The short story that he wrote and includes in the book, was worth the cost by itself! It maybe, just maybe, made me believer.

I'm doing research for a project of my own and decided to read up on everything "zombie" that's out there. Of all the books on zombies that I've read, this book's well-researched/evidenced-based content, quality of writing, and user-friendly layout/design make it a standout.
The book has 25 chapters with very detailed instructions for learning how to defend oneself against a zombie outbreak. It makes a strong case for using a handgun as the main instrument of self-defense early on and subsequent chapters give detailed instructions for training to shoot a handgun. Later chapters make the case for force-on-force training and performing under survival stress. At the end, there are step-by-step drills and even a handy final exam. Then, the epilogue includes an original short story about North Korea unleashing a zombie virus via female Korean commandos - "dressed in short skirts with high socks and thick glasses" - posing as tourists spreading the virus with a click of their cameras aimed toward unsuspecting Americans. The short story is definitely a bonus and I can easily see how this author could use it as the story line for a longer book or screenplay.
Throughout the book I was blown away by the level of detail given in the book and the number of high-quality pictures that really helped me visualize the instructions given. I didn't do an exact count, but there are about 75 pictures in the book! And given the oversized layout -- magazine-sized in length/width but with 250+ pages -- there's room for multiple nice-sized pictures on a page. That's particularly helpful on pages where he's giving step-by-step instructions for something (e.g., constructing a backyard moving target). The book's layout and number of pages also allows the book to stay open on any given page on its own, which is very helpful.
Another valuable aspect of the book's layout is the use of gray text boxes to highlight important information. Because each chapter is chock-full of information, these text boxes helped focus my attention. After a few chapters I got in the habit of reading each chapter in its entirety and going back to reread the text boxes as a short review. There are also black background text boxes with super big font that highlight safety features. I appreciate this consideration, as it will make it easier for me to pass this book on knowing that that's in place.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this guide. I found myself rereading lines a lot and while it is a serious guide, the author is pretty funny at times. I found myself chuckling a lot.
Bottom line: an informative, well-written guide with an attractive layout/design! Highly recommended!

My boyfriend is super into zombie and he fell in love with this book. He has read it multiple times and said it is different from any other zombie book he has read. The book itself was high quality enough to be a coffee table book. A must have for any zombie fanatic.
Sounds good...

This sounds like a good training regimen. The only issue is finding someone willing to be your training partner, and finding outdoor space where you can actually do these sorts of activities.
NOT like the other "zombie books"!!!

When Mark asked me to review his book and told me the title, I almost passed . . . but he convinced me to give it a chance and I'm glad I did.
I am soooooo sick of "zombies", especially when referenced by tacti-tards on countless online forums . . . but the truth of the matter is that zombies are simply a metaphor. There are several types of "zombie", from the drug ravaged slow zombies who will attack passersby on the street and bite them, to organized gangs of fast zombies intent on kicking in doors and looting. Both can kill you just as dead after SHTF. It makes practical shooting more PC, almost like a socially acceptable game you can play with your kids.
LOTS of solid advice about training to shoot moving targets at close range, based upon tried and true LE tactics. Most of these tactics involve "force on force" training to simulate the stress of an actual attack, to accustom one to fire accurately under the effects of adrenaline.
A lot of good advice on creating inexpensive training gear to train realistically and SAFELY with a partner. 30 page short story at the end was a great bonus. Oversized book with glossy cover and silly photos inside seems non-threatening and fun at first glance by an uninformed houseguest, although I was uncomfortably letting anyone seeing what I was reading at work.
Mark did a GREAT JOB with this instructional manual, and there are LOTS of important observations that will save your ass if it ever goes down for real. We all know there's no such thing as "zombies" . . . but in a SHTF situation it might well be close enough. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for anyone who is serious about progressing beyond bullseye target practice at the range.

I'm a former SWAT trained cop, firearms instructor, and a zombie fan. I found this book so relevant that I bought several as Christmas gifts for fellow cops and non-cop shooters.
Even if you are not a fan of the zombie universe, the practical and tactical suggestions are applicable to non-zombie threats to you or your loved ones. If you are a zombie fan, you'll find that the tactics recommended for dealing with zekes is sound. Hardware is thoroughly researched and I especially appreciated the attention paid to firearms and ammunition.
There are lessons on training which can be applied to both human and zombie threat scenarios. The photos are appropriate and well done. Great stuff.
From a policeman and zombie fan standpoint, I highly recommend this amazing book.

As much as I like zombies, I'm getting a bit sick of them. Thanks to shows like The Walking Dead and books like World War Z becoming less than faithful movie adaptations, zombies are saturating the market... almost like a zombie plague.
Some argue whether you can even call fast zombies "zombies," as purists consider only slow zombies authentic. Hipster zombie aficionados, basically. Like World War Z's movie version, The Zombie Shooting Guide addresses fast zombies and leaves the slow pokes to the hipsters (who would probably be too busy being self righteous to run away anyway). By focusing on fast zombies, the Zombie Shooting Guide reveals its true colors: this isn't actually a book about zombies, but like all zombie lore, it's a reflection on reality.
Instead of being a social commentary, the Zombie Shooting Guide is actually a thoroughly researched, incredibly detailed practical shooting guide designed to help make an average armed citizen or cop a better shot with their concealed carry piece. The book contains many excellent suggestions and tips backed up by an exhaustive level of research. While I didn't agree with every idea in the book (some of the weapon selection, for example), I couldn't fault the savant like level of detail with which the points are argued.
If you're looking to become a better shooter or aren't completely sick of anything tangentially related to zombies, this one's worth a buy.
Informative & Fun Shooting Guide for Zombie Survival

This is a very thorough & well-researched book that is also a lot of fun. Even the captions have a lot of info & humor.
I especially liked the sections on how to "Move Your Ass" during an attack & the photos of the fast zombie drills, with the shooting partner in a zombie mask armed with a stun gun to make the training more stressful & realistic. Can't wait to try that one! There are also drills for fighting outlaws who want to steal your ammo & food supplies during the zombie outbreak. The book even has cut-out zombie targets & a realistic short story about North Korea planting the zombie virus in the US. In fact, I was surprised by how much fascinating detail the book had about military history.
You get a lot of bang for your buck. If you take your zombies & guns & survival prep seriously, this book is for you.

You can never be too careful. That's why you have to make sure that you're ready for the zombie invasion. But, in case there is no zombie invasion, then you better be sure that the zombie survival guide book that you read is not a total waste of time. This one by Mark Greenman is very entertaining, so it's a win-win situation, invasion or no invasion. Like a recipe for rice, Greenman is two parts survival smarts and one part camp and wit. (Camp and wit combine like sugar and water, so I guess we're making sticky rice, which is even better than the other kind.) Don't waste your time. Don't take life too seriously--just seriously enough to run the zombie gauntlet on the day of reckoning.
