Nice set of mini books for pre-readers

Nice set of books. Maybe I didn't pay attention to the description but I wasn't expecting them to be a mini size. It's actually a great size for little hands so I was OK with it. The books are very short and have very few words. Reading with my four-year-old, we get through the whole set in minutes. However, him "reading" them on his own, he is definitely engaged. I imagine this would not be challenging or engaging for older readers. Similar to other reviews, the binding is not great. But we haven't had any books fall apart so I can deal with it.

Great to hook little boys on reading

My grandson cannot wait for our official "reading time" to read these! He begs, and woke me up this morning before school to read. Four stars only because I would like to see more grade-appropriate sight words included and care taken for more words that are easier to sound out and are pronounced as they are spelled. This can't be helped with character names and place names from the movies, etc, but they mostly know those. That said, the enthusiasm for reading these little sets can prompt in a reluctant reader - especially boys - cannot be overstated, and should be a hint to book publishers for this age group to provide less PC pablum (written to please adults) and more adventurous, interesting books for this boys this age who could care less about whiney, fearful saccharine-adorable animals with hang-ups and more about larger-than-life heroes they hope to emulate.

I am an elementary school teacher and my emerging readers (the boys at least) love this box set. These are the only books I have found I cannot let students take home...students just don't want to let go of them.

As stated before these are definately not what you would think a Pre-1 reading series would entail. The good thing is the print is large and books short enough to keep your little ones attention.

My son was tired of reading about pandas cleaning and doing housework in the boring books that got sent home from school. Who would want to read that over and over?! These books are great and they hold his attention, he enjoys reading about his favorite characters. I have already recommended these to a few friends!

Good for pre-readers

I purchase these for my two-year old as we are starting to learn the alphabet and to recognize that text has meaning. These are great for those purposes. They could also be fun for readers to enjoy if they like super heroes - with a caveat that there are at least two inaccuracies in the Ant-Man book. Yes, I am that nerd and will be removing the Ant-Man book so my son doesn't learn incorrect facts about fictional characters.

Great for Sight Words

Love these books! My daughter is still on a pre-k reading level, but she loves these books, and they are great for sight words. Thanks to these books, my daughter now recognizes "fly" and "Hulk". I would recommend them for any child who loves superheros!

Great pictures - motivated my 4 year old to read

The pictures in these are great. Although the sentences are very short, I do not think these should be the first reader books you get. They're doable once you have some basics down (we're on the 4th set of Bob books) and they're not discouragingly long. Some of the words are more difficult like: special, together, galaxy, etc. My son was still able to get some of these words by context (he's a super hero fan and we read a lot). My favorite part of these books is that when they came, my son insisted on reading them right away and although he struggled a bit initially he kept at it and can now read them all. I regularly scour the library and have checked out many first readers, but nothing has been as motivating as this. He feels like he's reading "real" books now.

The only ones our rising first grader could read and enjoy

I wanted to work with my grandson, who is entering first grade, over the summer, so he wouldn't lose what he learned in kindergarten. He is a reluctant reader, and doesn't like to sound out words, but wants to sight read. These books are the best of both. He was able to learn some words like "special" and "Avengers" by sight, but had to sound out some of the basic words like "this" and "that" . He loved the subject matter, so that increased his enjoyment.
