Product Description
After George Lucas finished work on Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, he wanted to look back on the Star Wars saga with an entirely new point of view: isolating stills, or frames, from each of the six Star Wars films, focusing on them intensely as works of photography and design, and reproducing them in a book. For two years Lucas went through more than 150,000 frames per film, editing more than 1 million frames down to the 1,416 images that now comprise Star Wars: Frames, a testament to the hard work, craftsmanship, and dedication evident in every frame of every film. Star Wars: Frames brings together Lucas’s personal shot-by-shot selections into a lavishly designed two-volume hardcover set—one volume for the Original Trilogy and one volume for the Prequel Trilogy. For collectors and fans, Star Wars: Frames is the ultimate look on this grand project devoted to a cinematic phenomenon—and the ultimate Star Wars collector’s tome.
Please note: All the images in Star Wars: Frames are presented as they are seen on screen, with none of the alterations that usually take place when an image is released for publication (digital enhancements, airbrushing, and so on). They will therefore have, occassionally, motion-blur or other anomalies inherent in a 1/24th-of-a-second extraction. Each double-page spread of frames is intended to be viewed from left to right top, then left to right bottom.

Very, very cool stuff. In the stills you can notice things that you never saw on the screen. George definitely took his time and picked some absolute gems here.

True high-end photography quality books

The book is beautiful and the photography is top notch. I love the sheen and thickness of the paper, but it does make each book quite heavy to hold. So the entirety of the package is even more heavy. But the quality is so spectacular it was a notably fantastic gift. I would recommend it for any hardcore Star Wars fan or even if you enjoy a beautiful coffee table photography book, this is wonderful.
Very much worth the money!

Wonderful books. Yes, these books are heavy. Yes, some photos are dark and others have motion-blurred people in them. But the images are fantastic. Mine arrived today (was literally THROWN to the ground by USPS!) but thankfully the triple boxing protected everything. Was a little surprised at the amount of "dust" on the pages. Most of it wiped off, too.
Incredible imagery, capturing the essence of each scene in the movie. Many pivotal images immediately brought back the dialogue and music from that scene, and then my mind would finish it through. A fascinating look at the storytelling of the series, making me feel like I have more insight into what Lucas was going for.
Gorgeous imagery

The printing of the frames on the page is stunning. The colors are gorgeous, as vibrant as on the Blu-rays. The paper is a bit shiny, so you'll have to find the right lighting to sit with when you look at the book to avoid glare. But the images are incredible.
It's also interesting as a perspective on what George Lucas selected for inclusion from the frames from his movies. You get a sense of what he thinks is important, either visually or in the story. For example in Episode II, there are a significant number of frames from the clones vs. droids battle on Geonosis, and comparatively fewer from the Naboo scenes with Anakin and Padme.
The books are heavy but very fun to look at!
Big. Beautiful. Compelling.

This two-volume set is a well organized visual-only chronicle of the original six Star Wars movies. It you are a fan of the movies, you just gotta get this set on principle if nothing else. ;) But seriously, while I initially had reservations, upon exploring the books first hand, I found a bit of subtle creative "genius," if you will, in showcasing the material in this manner. Huge scenes and depictions. Grand landscapes. intimate moments. Enormous battles. Sure... nostalgia sappiness, but actually a pretty compelling way to explore the movies "again." And with George and company's personal touch no less. Beautiful set worth exploring.
A few reviewers mentioned they'd pick different frames for publication ...

A few reviewers mentioned they'd pick different frames for publication, I might have done so as well, but I think it's interesting to see what frames someone else would select as it gives you a different perspective on the films.
Also noted is that they are a bit dark, I agree with this. The notes say they were trying to print them without a digital manipulation but the brightness of a printed image is very different than a lit image coming from a screen so they feel darker than what you'd see in the theater or on a TV.
The product was packaged extremely well. It was encased in three tight fitting cardboard boxes to ensure that the corners wouldn't be destroyed when it is delivered.

SW Frames is a massive box of two mighty tomes, so we have to discuss dimensions here for a bit first. Weighs around 8kg/18lb --- the total box is about 3.25 in thick by 12.5 x 14. It deserves the coffee table all by itself, or an entire special shelf or other place that can take the weight.
My copy was shipped to me in Three Boxes -- the old box-in-a-box-in-a-box deal, with the actual item packed tightly into the smallest one : in other words, Amazon *really* cares sometimes.
Also, compared to the outrageous upper-crust-affordable-only prices of the first edition of Frames, this edition's price is a steal. This edition's original SRP is $150, but Amazon and more reasonable booksellers sell this for closer to, or less than, $100.
The outer package snugly contains the 2 volumes (a trilogy in each one). After short intro.s/forwards by J.W. Rinzler (author of all of the modern Making of SW movies books) and fantasy film director Guillermo del Toro, the books proceed with two film frames per page.
As one would expect, the frames range from action scenes to landscapes to creature shots to character moments. Of course, for some fans, there's the inevitable disappointment of a variety of scenes/characters/etc that were omitted; however, you get a wide range of shots.
Also, when it comes to the classic trilogy volume, you are getting images from the 1997 and 2004 Special Editions of those movies.
Despite the limitations, it is a gorgeous piece of work, with a massive set of great visuals from the six main films of the saga. Just be sure to dust off a sizable space for it, and be ready for its cinderblock weight, and you're good.
Perfect for art reference, or catching fine details.

High quality screen shots of the sets, the skies, the machines and the characters... It's captured the touching moments, the funniest moments and the most beautiful. I bought this book for art reference. I'll be using the photos for large tattoo. If you are a collector, or an artist, this is my favorite book for images... And because of my project, I am now the owner of about 6 expensive and fancy Star Wars books. This set has everything and is my favorite.
