I'm finally awake after 3 year napby cami flaget (5 out of 5 stars)
November 3, 2016
I am realizing just how much I took myself out of the game of life after our youngest daughter passed away about 3 years ago. She was almost 6 years old and I was 33. At 36 years young I felt one and a half decades older than my body. With the help of Gary's words, I realize that I am my hero and, ultimately, this is really good news for me. I was so busy waiting for things to get better that I wasn't in action about living a happy life despite the fact that my youngest is no longer physically in it. Certainly, I will always miss her, but I can experience joy, peace, passion, and excitement as well. I feel compelled to drive forward with a velocity that inspires me. I started singing again (in the car, around the house, even at my office)...I hadn't noticed that it was gone for 3 years until it showed up again. Many thanks for the opportunity this book gives me to take the bull by the horns and to be responsible for my present and future. I am so relieved! Seriously, that sounds so weird. Who would have thought that me being responsible would leave me feeling relief? ha! It's so true though. I feel like I am finally awake after an extended nap. Thanks for the wake up call, Gary John Bishop.

I bought this book because I was going through a tough time and I wanted to read something to help get me out of the funk I was in. This book is really helpful in explaining why you're your own worst enemy and how to get out of your head. It really does help make you feel better and gives great advice on how to improve your life by controlling your thoughts. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who needs help getting through tough times or to anyone who needs motivation to live a more fulfilled life. Even if you're perfectly ok - this book can help push you to be a better you.
A Muddy Intro to Many Ideas
by Christian (3 out of 5 stars)

I am going to dare to be critical whilst still awarding a 3-star review. In summary, this is a great introduction to an assortment of philosophical ideals: some that have been around since the ancient Greeks and some being developed in the modern age: existentialism, stoicism, epistemology, ontology, etc. For those not versed in philosophy, many of these ideas may be new and interesting. Unfortunately, Gary doesn't reference some of these philosophies for your further reading but this is understandable as his focus is on coaching you to overcome yourself not to be a literary scholar. For little more than ~$10 and a few hours of reading, give it a shot and see if you learn something. As much as I am going to be critical, the book has its utility and will be useful to some of its readers, so who am I to tell you not to read it? You should read everything and challenge it--the pursuit of knowledge means to never stop engaging in the dialogue.
One of my biggest gripes with this text is that Gary seems to contradict himself throughout it and complicates his overall message. He is adamant that this is not another self-help book that focuses on positive thinking; however, it is one of the first concepts he introduces. In sum, he teaches that assertive language affects emotions, feelings, and ultimately decision making and that one should engage in healthy inner dialogue. He also later bashes the quote, "Change your thoughts, change your life," calling it bullsh*t. Where he is attempting to go with this is to say that actions speak louder than words and no matter what you think, unless you take action, your life will not change.
Okay, this is fine but he took a six-word quote and said it was invalid over the course of ~200 pages. The problem is that he views ideas singularly and criticizes them in isolation; however, if you took any one of his chapters singularly, it would contradict his overall philosophy. For instance, positive self-talk is useless without his later instructions on asserting and acting on them. Overall, I think the overt criticism of other ideas throughout the text followed up with very similar approaches hurt the message Gary was trying to send to his readers. You may find yourself confused or frustrated without having a deeper understanding of some of the philosophies on which Gary touches. In the end, Gary pulls it together but it may take a while to see the differences he is attempting to portray--the book could have been more concise and focused.
Another gripe would be that on page 21 he tells you that if you are easily offended not to read his book and to give it away immediately. The very next page he claims, "I have designed this book to be as accessible and useful to as many people as possible." Really, is anyone proof-reading this thing? Look, if you're going to be a self-help coach how can you tell the people who may need to hear your words the most, to shove off? This move was very Nietzsche-esque in that he believed he was a writer for everyone and yet no one at the same time. But Nietzsche was writing critical philosophy and engaging his own ideas--he wasn't writing it for them and that's why he didn't care if anyone read what he wrote. Gary, is writing for the people who he believes need help--that is his profession. So why scare away people who need the help?
TLDR: This book is a bit all over the place but does come together in a way that you will be able to understand by the end. If you are not well versed in philosophy and psychology, give it a go as it won't cost you an arm and a leg or too much of your time. Gary, I think you're doing good work but would encourage you to collaborate with some colleagues on condensing your thesis. I would also advise you to encourage your readers/clients while staying true to your no-bullsh*t approach as these do not have to be mutually exclusive.
an Important book for non Spiritual People.

This book is great... I didn't give it a perfect score because it's no different than any other self help or spiritual book... everything contained here is contained in any Buddhist book , the power of Now, etc... But that being said, for those of you that find yourselves procrastinating, or just being unhappy with your life situation this is almost a perfect book ... short and sweet... you really already have ALL the information you need to be happy and live a healthy life... we JUST DON't do it... this guy really motivates you and makes a case for the cost you pay if you don't change your behavior... I also recommend Russell Brands "RECOVERY' yes, know, you are not an addict... or you don't think you are, but what are habits than just little addictions to patterns...
this book is brilliant in the way it smacks you in the head and really makes you want to grab a piece of pen and paper and start working.!
of course, everything is easier said than done... I recommend the audiobook so you can maybe do a repeat of the book... since it's short... but I know that you will get dismotivated after reading ... that's why you read it in the first place... so his voice needs to stay clear on your mind.
But a good read, all the methods work, they have worked for millennia... We know what we need... we just need the discipline to apply it. this book makes great points on why and how to develop discipline...
Don't buy this book

The order of this book is the reason why I disabled the "buy it now" option on my Amazon account. A local book club was reading it, and I had no idea what it was about but the title and cover were intriguing. I looked at the description and intended to add it to my cart to consider it later but I must have hit "buy it now" instead. It shows up a few days later and while surprised at the unintended purchase, I read a lot of different kinds of books and was willing to give it a try. But not for a few weeks... Which is how I am stuck owning this book and not returning it 5 minutes after opening it.
I guarantee- 5 minutes is all you'll need. Read the introduction- a cheerleader-style embracing of your self-improvement self (cue the first over done analogy of a hamster on a wheel in the very first sentence, after the dedication citing a down on one's luck rise from nothing). Flip through the first few pages of each chapter, skimming as you go and noting the catch phrases in XXL font. By the end, you'll just be skimming these catch phrases and chapter headings. And then you'll feel disappointed and kind of gross for wasting 5 minutes doing that. And sad and lame for being the guy who got conned buying this book in the first place.
This book isn't just a paint-by-numbers self help book- it's a caricature of that style of literature. It's an SNL skit about how to motivate yourself by positive self talk and accepting nothing less than what you deserve. It's a guy who wrote a book in a few days using a formula for what appeals to a particular demographic and then adding filler pages of giant font screaming the same trite phrases already covered by the chapters. Seriously, you could just read the chapter headings and page-sized font and get the whole message.
The best thing about this book is the cover, which is expertly designed to look radical and edgy. And which disguises the purely inane "hang in there" kitten poster kind of fluff that I suspect will actually make people feel worse for having read it (positive reviews are baffling, and concerning at a core level). Don't make this guy the next positive-thinking, bullshit author, DIY your life guru by buying in. There are other books (really, pretty much any other book) on the subject worth your time, money, and fluff tolerance. The book (and author) may not be a scam; maybe it is all well intentioned fluff to motivate the masses. And if it actually does- excellent. But it looks an emotional Ponzi scheme wrapped in the newest shiny cover.
The most important thing to know is that it is never too late to find what you are looking for in li

GIRRRRRL........Everybody need to read this book. I have met so many people that talk themselves out of success ,happinesss, because they live inside of the head ,and talk themselves out of opportunities. UNFU+K Yourself:Get out of your head and into....is good advice, especially for people who are procrastinators and lazy. I know people who have a lot of potential but they are to lazy to do something for themselves, because they make excuses! You here," Oh, it take to long to go back to school, or " I don't have the money to start a business. or I am to old to do such and such, and the excuses go on and on! I tell them when I here the excuses, to just go and curl up under a rug then, and stop living! Is that being mean? well it is to bad! Read the book then you will understand why I feel this way. Gary John Bishop had a good idea when he wrote this book, somebody had to say it. UNFU+K YOURSELF: GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD AND INTO...........
Could've Been Half the Length

This book uses rather large font with large spacing to create the illusion that it is a book and not just a pamphlet. It is also very repetitive without being informative. There is some useful material, but it is buried between repetitive statements that pad the length of the book. Not worth the money.
This book is so real if you're ready for change!!! Read This♡

I have to agree with all the comments that say this book is boring, basic, useless, and that it is filled with fluff and blank pages. It can be condensed into a pamphlet or article. Just get to the point! Not worth buying in my opinion. Doesn't give any helpful advice. Very odd book, and very general and repetitive. I tried, but just couldn't finish reading.
My God, this book. Pro-tip: even if you don't like listening to books, get the audiobook of this.

Instead of describing the specific ideas presented in this book, let me share what happened to me as a testament.
1. I never listen to books - I almost always prefer reading them. Especially self-help books or reference books because I like to make notes while reading (or highlighting in an e-reader). This is difficult to do with audiobooks, but it can be done.
2. The only available version of this book from my library was the audiobook, so I checked it out and started listening to it in the car.
3. After listening to this Scotsman read HIS book, I was blown away. Not only is the content itself amazing, but the delivery is truly best heard (IMO) in the original, Scottish brogue. And because the reader is the author, the emphases are of course going to be in the right place, every time. I really think part of the power of the message here is the delivery, especially audio delivery.
4. The audiobook was so good, I bought the ebook version (again, in order to make notes I could go back to later - easily) before I even finished listening to the whole thing. I fully plan to re-read what I heard, and make copious notes.
If you are browsing this genre, you owe it to yourself to listen to this book (then read it!). There are some simple, yet powerful ideas here that actually changed my life and perspective at a time when I really needed them.
I think I have a pretty good nose for BS, and I am super suspicious about every book that's even close to the self-help genre, because so much of it is just psychobabble. This book is not, and I highly recommend it.
