My 6 year old grandson loves to shine the shadows on the wall and outline the animals there ( with his fingertips, though he may get around to doing it on paper.) I did follow the suggestions here and get him a flashlight with only ONE bulb in it. That helps.

Boosts imagination

My 5 yo spend the whole evening looking at the shadows from the book. She even found new animals that weren't actually there and made a story of her own.

It's a good way to push imagination just a little further. Quality paper and cut, it survived through multiple full openings which is a great result for 3d paper books.

I love pop-up books, and this book definitely did not disappoint. The scenes are wonderful and the shadow construction is whimsical; the pages are very fun to play hide-and-seek with the various animals within the scenes, as you move you light from left to right. An excellent way to illustrate creative paper engineering.

It is not very abstract, you cant use your imagination to get extra images, the animals it does have have a description on the page they show. Once you know them all, it gets old. It is beautiful still. I would bring it out on sleep overs too.

Gave this book to a friend who likes pop-up books. The twist of needing to look at silhouettes on a wall is a wonderful, playful, almost game to see who can see 'it' first.

bought this for gifts for some 8 yr olds. They loved it!! Great to take camping and shine on the tent too
