Product Description

On the one hand, nobody wants to be a dick. On the other hand, dicks are everywhere! They cut in line, talk behind our backs, recline into our seats, and even have the power to morph into trolls online. Their powers are impressive, but with a little foresight and thoughtfulness, we can take a stand against dickishness today. How Not to Be a Dick is packed with honest and straightforward advice, but it also includes playful illustrations showing two well-meaning (but not always well behaved) young people as they confront moments of potential dickishness in their everyday lives. Sometimes they falter, sometimes they triumph, but they always seek to find a better way. And with their help, you can too.

Here is to hoping...

I bought this for my brother, who is currently a dick.

It was less of a joke book than I expected... but that is probably a good thing since my brother could certainly use some real, practical advice on how to be a decent human.

I would buy it again... should the need arise.

My son actually read this book. Just the perfect amount of snark and inappropriateness to get a 12 year old to read an etiquette book. Now we enjoy flushing with the toilet lid closed and other treasures.

Still a D, but a more polite one!

I bought this book for my nephew's 18th birthday in hopes of curing his "D-ness".

He's still a D, but he is a little more polite about it. So I'll consider that a win!

I would certainly suggest pairing this book with "How Not to Be an A-Hole". I'll also be the first to get in line for "How Not to Be a Dipshat" should it ever be printed.

The author really gets it when putting herself in the shoes of a bonafide D. She uses helpful language and suggestions on how to stop being a D without coming off as a condescending D herself. Meghan Doherty has mastered the art and I suggest this book as a gift for that special D in your life.

Who knew such a thing actually was published!

Well this is a funny title, one of which I didn't believe existed and for that reason alone I purchased as a gag gift to my spouse. lol. As far as the contents - entertaining, but I was surprised how much content involved school as if they were speaking to an audience in high school or younger, but overall - the fact my spouse unwrapped this gift - and the look on his face was worth every penny!

Can we add this to the Common Core?

This should be required reading for all middle schoolers (and plenty of people older than that!). We can all be mindful of the ways in which we may be jerks without realizing it. It's funny and snarky enough to not be preachy, but actually addresses how to navigate real social situations, including online.

I bought this for my 14 year old son who socially awkward. He loved the book and learned a great deal on proper reactions to various social situations. I could hear him laughing out loud when he was reading it in his room. He thanked me for the book and asked for copies to give to some friends. The book even has pictures! Its great for high functioning kids with autism and kids that are neurotypical.

My 17 year old has been reading it and talking about it. He just liked carrying it around at first to harass his friends, but he's actually getting something out of it!

This showed up in my search for teen self help books, but it covers some typically adult topics like missing work and one-night stands
