Gluten Free Wraps
by E. Madsen (5 out of 5 stars)

Individuals with food allergies, this review is for you. My family has owned this machine now since Dec. 2014 and we use it not for ice cream cones (although those are wonderful) but instead to make sandwich wraps. We are a dairy, gluten, soy and nut free family and I found a recipe online which I altered to use in this machine and it works! The wraps are best the first day, but they still work the second however they become more crumbly. We also freeze them and though they are not as good as fresh, they still work. My recipe reflects our family's needs but if you can tolerate other flours, xanthum gum or such, it more than likely could be improved. I have used many combinations of flours and milks with these and all have turned out fine. We cook them on the second or third setting for approximately 1 minute. They are quick to mix up but you can mix the batter ahead and use it from the refrigerator as needed for a few days.

My recipe is:

Rice Flour Tortillas
1 egg
3 Tbs oil
1 c. milk or water
1 c. rice flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Great waffle maker

Great waffle maker! Got it because of this one guys video review, despite other bad reviews and very pleased. Makes perfect waffles. Although I do use my own recipe as well and instead of cones we make tubes and fill them with cream (icing like)

PS: you can easily make identical tubes if you take out the handle from the cone maker :)

Enjoy :)

This could be a nice little waffle iron if the parts which are meant ...

Built to break!

This could be a nice little waffle iron if the parts which are meant to be handled and hold the device together were made of metal and not flimsy plastic. Already, as I pulled the waffle maker out of the package I predicted that the hook which is needed to hold the waffle iron together while the waffle is baking and expanding would break very soon, being made out of thin plastic and not metal. And sure enough, on the second day when I puled out a fresh waffle and the iron closed, as the hinges are very loose, the hook broke, which makes it unusable. Why build something in such a crappy way?? Otherwise it would be such a nice little waffle iron!!

Fantastic!

I am such a busy little baker; it's mostly to relieve stress or just to keep busy during the summer. After having such a great waffle cone in Waikiki this summer at Lappert's Ice Cream, I was inspired to make some cones on my own. I saw this same item on Bed Bath and Beyond's website for $10.00 more (49.99). Of course, I came to Amazon and found it for 39.99 and I got free shipping!

Pros: Extremely easy to use. It has to do a cycle first (details in the directions), but it's quickly ready to go. Use a little cooking spray so that you can easily remove the cone. Once you have ladled on the batter, close, latch and wait. After your first waffle cone, you can easily determine what number it should be on. The higher the number, the darker the cone. This item also comes with a tool that you can utilize to properly shape your waffle cone. Remember that you are dealing with an item that comes off of a hot object, but take your time and you will soon get the hang of it. You have to work fast, but each cone (unless you get it perfect the first time) gets better until yours look just like those in an ice cream shop. By the way, it's easy to clean. Use a damp cloth to wipe it. Also, don't worry if you put a little too much; It comes off the side and you can trim it/let the catcher handle it.

Con: I love this product, but I was not impressed with one of the waffle cone recipes that it provided. In fact, the recipe was extremely heavy, and I had to thin it out to create the right level of thickness for the cone. I recommend trying another waffle cone recipe or altering (as I did) what is provided to get the right cone.

Works great, but has a few fragile parts

Seemed to work well when I made cones for the first time today. Slightly uneven cooking, but not as extreme as other cone makers (based on reviews and photos)

My biggest concern is the clip that needs to click in to cook waffle (flattening the batter). It is made of plastic and seems very fragile, so might break quickly. Why not make it out of something less fragile, like metal?

It was Christmas present for my daughter. She used it today for the first time and it started falling apart. Locking latch broke after just one use! And it's to late return it. Don't buy it

Update : I contacted Amazon customer service and they were very nice about taking care of this problem. I am returning broken Waffle cone maker and getting refund. Thank you Amazon!

EXCELLENT item!

Just arrived tonight, I LOVE IT!! I used the 1st recipe in the book, with a little vanilla added. Even my first one came out amazingly well! I kept the wafers flat to make ice cream sandwiches, which were delicious :-) Can't wait to try it with cocoa powder added, and actual cones and waffle bowls. I sprayed a little olive oil on the iron before first use only, and honestly I probably didn't even need to do that, it came right off with no effort.

I do recommend reading the instructions thoroughly - I didn't realize that you're supposed to latch it closed while baking, that latch isn't just for storage, glad I saw it when skimming the instructions before I dropped the first batter on the iron.

If you want to make ice cream sandwiches...I think it would work best to make ice cream sandwiches ahead of time and put back in the freezer (or deep freeze, if you have one) to make the ice cream as solid as possible - I was putting them together and while eating, the ice cream kept squishing out (delicious though so i didn't care). I didn't want to wait though, I wanted to eat them immediately, so...a little ice cream drippage was fine with me! :-)

I highly recommend it! Can't wait to make fresh ice cream sandwiches

great product

this is a great waffle cone maker, it is so easy to use and once you get the hang of rolling the waffle cone, you can just keep going, making one waffle cone after another with pausing! I'm glad I bought this waffle cone maker, it makes waffle cones that are ten times better than store bought already made cones, and it's a lot more thicker, so the cones don't crumble when you try to put hard frozen ice cream in it!

the cone that comes with it works fine enough, but I prefer metal cones for shaping

I bought this for my mom and she loves it. it comes with a recipe booklet, in case you don't know where to start. because this waffle presses out thin waffles, it is very forgiving if you mess up or over-mix ingredients. the cone that comes with it works fine enough, but I prefer metal cones for shaping. be careful not to pour too much at once, because it would be annoying to clean up in the crevices.

Words cannot describe how much I love it!

I don't use it to make cones, so can't say anything about that, as I make Russian style waffles with it. This Cone Maker had so much use in my household, I had to buy another one for the job to go quicker. Now it's been several years, and I still use them to make this tasty Russian desert. It makes great "trubochki"! Love it! I also used different recepie to make cups for ice cream (using the bottom of a glass), dipped the edges in chocolate - looks fantastic! Bottom line - highly recommend this product!
