This was once a great tool pack years ago, where has the quality gone. smh....

Let me start off by saying that I never write a review till at least using the product for a while.

I use to have a tool backpack from CLC that I purchased in 2009 and it lasted me till October of 2015. My old pack has seen abuse from being drug across galvanized grating, being thrown off the deck of a crew boat offshore, it stood up to everything I threw at it.Really, all that was wrong with it was a couple of busted zippers, everything else lasted over the years.

Now the new pack on the other hand, is a different story. It is not made with Cordera like the older packs. It is made with a lot cheaper materials and falls apart from light use. The wrench pockets are tearing apart, the zippers are busting out, the shoulder straps are falling apart. Seems more of a Chinese knockoff if you want my honest opinion.

Given my experience with this brand and style tool backpack in the past and current..... I would not recommend this product to anyone. It is now made with different materials, the stitching is weaker, and the zippers are weaker.

Great bag with no configurability
by Jason Carnevale (3 out of 5 stars)
January 19, 2015

I wish more people started their reviews off with what their profession or use case of the item is or was expected to be.... pass it on.

I'm a Data Center Engineer. I rack and cable large scale storage and compute products (manual labor) and then configure them (brains part). I have lots of different tools and items that I need to have with me at all times. The major ones are a Dewalt power screwdriver and all the possible bits in the world that I might run into. I have a label maker and all the accessories that go with it and the labels I make. I have the battery charger and battery packs that go along with this stuff. Lastly, I have lots of cables that allow me to interact with the components I'm installing. This is certainly not the full list but hopefully it gives you a good idea.

I saw other bags I would have liked to have bought instead of this one, but went with this guy because of price. I'm 75% satisfied.

The Good:
1. Amazing Quality. This thing is tough as nails.
2. Easy portability. Easy to carry by hand and back. Also, the top handles are tough enough to put a hook on and have this hang from something.
3. Lots and lots of compartments.... I can't fill them all. Well, I probably could but see the next section.....

The Bad:
1. No configurability. I have tons of empty pockets left but what I'd like to put in them doesn't fit! I'm left with having to leave it out.
2. This bag was not built to stretch out / expand. There is no room to put stuff in between the two walls (not in a compartment) if your pockets are filled.
3. This bag was made for lots of small tools or little things.... if you have more than 4 or 5 large items (large = big tape measure or drills or label makers, etc..) do not buy this bag.

See my pics for a better idea of what I got in there and the limitations I spoke about.

Modify for perfection!!!

I am a HVAC technician and I needed tool bag that I could organize and pack my tools in a way that I do not have to dig tools from the bottom of the bag. After reviewing the pictures I thought this bag would be great for what I want and did not want in a tool bag. After reading some reviews I was kind of hesitant to buy this particular tool bag. A common compliant that I read was that "the pockets were too small for some of the bigger hand tools." I rolled the dice anyway and I was glad that I did. When I received the bag I started organizing my tools within the pockets and lo and behold the pockets were to small. I kind of expected it but I did not fret I simply modified the pockets to suit the size of some my bigger tools. For the pocket in which I put my larger tools I simply took a razor blade to the stitching and BAM my 7 piece plier set fit like a charm. I did the same for my longer screw drivers and adjustable wrenches It was a fairly easy process, tedious but easy. Besides hand tools I have meters, temperature guns, and other troubleshooting devices. When I organized these particular devices I simply took my blade to the flaps that covered the pockets and all those devices fit perfectly. Since I no longer needed the flaps I took my blade and cut the stitching for the Velcro also. Now I would not recommend my way because I am 100% sure I will not be able to return this bag but I am 100% sure that I will not be going to anyway, This bag is definitely a keeper.

Perfect for those looking to carry a lot of tools, and still be organized. Rugged, dependable, comfo

If you need to carry a lot of different tools, this is the pack for you. I'm a facilities and operations manager for a housing complex with 1000 residents. 23 buildings, 322 units, 994 bed and baths. Our buildings are 4 floors, so I was looking for something to eliminate the need for back and forth trips. I may have taken it to the extreme, but I had it packed full. It weighed almost 100 lbs, but I was able to hold a 20 volt Dewalt drill, spare battery, charger, the small organizer it comes with, full screwdriver set, electrical tools, meters, hand tools, 2 1/4 inch socket sets, hammer, pry bars, file set, and the list goes on. The only thing I couldn't fit were my gauges, but they would have fit if I didn't it full of everything else. The straps are comfortable, and eliminate fatigue if you have a lot of travel between work areas. The exterior is quite durable, and though it is not rated as being water proof, my pack saw a lot of rain and snow, and I never had an issue with water intrusion on the inside. Improvements I would like to see would be a molded bottom, as I had a lot of weight it was not very stable, and every time I would open a pocket, the whole thing would fall over, but that is a very minor inconvenience. Also, even if just plastic, a little reinforcement under the back padding would be nice, if the tools in the back compartment shift they will poke you. Again, just a minor inconvenience to organize better. In the end, travel was my bags demise. I had to drop the weight to fly, the first 3 trips it was mint and so were my tools. Then the airline lost my bag, flew it around the country, and had to Fed-Ex it back to me. Upon arrival the organizer was smashed to pieces, the exterior was torn to pieces, tools were missing, the straps were broke. It looked like it went through a wood chipper. The bag is extremely durable, but not invincible. I am on here to buy another, and thought I would write this. If you have a lot to carry, highly recommend. The elastic pouch on the inside will hold a laptop, I carried mine for months, just get a hard cover for it. The picture will show everything I took out of the bag when I had to reduce weight to fly, minus the hammer drill. I had the bag for a year before it met its demise, without a stitch coming undone. I put this bag through the ringer, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. TIP: when you receive it brand new, it will be very rigid. I recommend over-packing it and zipping it shut, and leaving it sit for a day or two so the fabric loosens a little.

You'll get a year with heavy use

My profession is HVAC Technician.

I bring this backpack with me into attics, under homes in tight crawl spaces, and if I'm lucky into a garage. This backpack has been in well over a 1000 homes over the last year and a half. That being said at about the 1 year mark it started to rip and tear at the bottom of the backpack where my screw driver tips and sockets would sit. I've resorted to taping it the past few months but finally deciding to just get another. I've given this backpack a 3 out of 5 due to the fact that I really was only able to get 1 year out of it before replacing. I am a bit rough with it.. but it's a tool backpack.. it should be durable enough to last a couple years at least I would imagine. I so really like the convenience of the backpack, I've recommended it to all of my co-workers, and also had many compliments from clients.

Nice tool case with a few issues.
by Buckeye HD Rider (5 out of 5 stars)

I gave this backpack 5 stars even though it has some issues. However It's short comings are in my opinion, minor.

It has tons of room for tools and equipment in fact it will be very easy to overload it to the point of being difficult to carry.

As others have stated - the pockets are somewhat small and make it a challenge to put larger tools in it.

I have several item from this same manufacturer (CLC) and find them to be of excellent quality and workmanship.

For the most part they appear to be well thought out. The small plastic parts container is a plus.

I have not had the opportunity to load it up yet but will update this review after doing so.

Bad long term investment for heavy duty techs
by Gianna (2 out of 5 stars)
October 20, 2017

If you are looking for a long term investment, this is not the product for you. I'm a forklift technician, I do electrical, mechanical and hydraulic repairs. I carry all types of things in my bag and I love it because of how many pockets it has. With that said, about 6 months ago, the very back pocket zipper, broke, not a big deal, I used the other zipper to close it half way and kept using it. Three months later I'm carrying my bag, and boom The right carrying strap breaks. Two months later, my large front zipper breaks as well. Now this sucks. I can barely carry my bag around without dropping my tools. I can say however I fully took the bag to its maximum, I carried about 40 pounds of tools. I ended up moving my tools bag to my Milwaukee bag that I've had for 6 years now. If your an electrician or any light duty tech I think this might be great for you, forklift techs or travel mechanics probably not!

Too many impractical Pockets
by Terryjc (4 out of 5 stars)
August 12, 2018

I have been looking at various tool back packs for some time to upgrade by current CLC 44 pocket bag. For the 44 pocket I had to make my own wrench pouch with backing board which worked well but the back pack overall was to cramped for the tools I need to carry.

This new 75 pouch bag looked great in photos with the inclusion of wrench holders and was the selling point for me. On receiving this back pack I was impressed with the construction and all the options that it offered but soon became disappointed when loading my tools. There were enough wrench slots for my set 3/4 down to 5/16 set and sufficient slots for my screw drivers. There are too many pockets with flaps and not enough blade type slots, or elastic slots that are too high for handles to stay inside the bag. To overcome this I tucked the flaps into the pockets and put my nut drivers, hex wrenches, adjustable wrenches & slip joint pliers into these. The regular pliers, side cutters and wire strippers all fit into the non flapped pockets.

I then found that I had used all the big pockets so that full rolls of insulation tape & thread seal went one roll per pocket in the others. The included plastic compartment box is very handy and replaced a couple of the previous candy tins I had been using for wire nuts & ferrules.

The big let down though is that the bag does not have any type of feet or protection on the bottom. The old 44 pouch pack had some feet in each corner and helped to protect the base of the bag. I think this is a major oversight of the manufacturer. Obviously they are trying to keep the price of the back pack at a reasonable level to stay competitive. I have been looking around and may add these myself as I have done in the past.

There is no doubt that this bag is not is cramped as the old one and I have managed to load it to make it work for me. There are a lot of small pouches unused along with the elasticized slots and the little one inch deep slots are totally impractical for me.

Love this bag!
by Jeff A. (5 out of 5 stars)

So far.. The versatility of this bag amazes me!

I drive tow trucks. 12 hours a day, 5, 6 days a week.

After 4 years, my old bag had had it. Needed a replacement. Wanted something where everything I do/may need over the course of a workday wasn't crammed into a main bag compartment.

In my new bag I have room for everything with room to spare. I love how it opens out into individual compartments.
(I noticed there were a few reviews criticizing the durable construction of the bag. I do not carry the bag around all day, it sits in the truck and is only portable for a few minutes each day. It's a "storage unit" for me, not a transportation device. That said.....)

In it I carry:

Front smallest compartment: A book for down times and my 8 inch tablet.

Second pocket contains: my self defense, a small bottle of mouthwash, and a small bottle of water.

Third front (upper smaller pocket) contains: refills for my self defense, spray can of mace, and several packs of crackers,

Fourth compartment (First large, full size section) contains: various hand tools, hacksaw, socket set.

Fifth compartment (full size) contains (in the small pouches) GPS system, back up phone, back up chargers, portable power source, 100 watt inverter and (in main compartment) a full change of clothes.
6th compartment (full size) contains: full set of folded rain gear, first aid kit, 3 pair of various application gloves, 2 pair of socks, a couple of bandanas, and an extra ball cap.

And in all of these compartments.. There is literally still room to jam more stuff into should I find a need.

Thinking of buying another one of these bags.. Because, just my luck, when this one wears out, they will have discontinued it.. lol

It lasted just more than a month before the zipper broke.
by Gardening Grandma (1 out of 5 stars)

This was our second bag - exactly same as the first - and the zipper ripped out. The first bag lasted almost 2 years before ripping out, which is acceptable. That is why we purchased a second. My husband flies out almost every week, for his job, with a full compliment of tools. The baggage handlers/TSA are very hard on the baggage.

The second bag - THE +$100 BAG - that didn't last but a little longer than a month, the buyer is responsible for the shipping costs to have it repaired/replaced, which is deplorable customer service.

The customer service is shoddy and the toolbag's short lifespan is inexcusable.

It is unconscionable that the customer is responsible for the shipping.
