Happiness and a Warningby Tracey R,Top Contributor: Pets (5 out of 5 stars)

Two things. 1) When you read the instructions and they say rubber gloves are optional, they are only referring to people who comfortably plunge their hands into boiling water. You need gloves for mozzarella. You will burn your hands. 2.) This should come with a warning....about all the money you will spend because this one little kit turns you into a full-blown curd nerd and has you spending hundreds more on all kinds of cheese making stuff. I am 30 days out from my first batch of mozzarella and am completely out of hand. (I'm not kidding, the wine cooler - my new cheese cave - is being delivered today along with a cheese press.) I have fresh goat milk in the fridge (again, not kidding) and am preparing for feta, Colby, gouda, you name it.
So bottom line the kit is great, you can make wonderful cheese and I've loved this company's website for products and recipes.
Not quite everything you need......

Not Quite everything you need. I followed the directions for mozzarella and had no problems until it came to the stretching..... duh on my part. It's hot and Yes you will need gloves. Gloves are not included in the kit. Overall the cheese worked out fine for a first timer. The curds were not as firm as I would have hoped but the cheese still turned out. I am not sure how one of the reviewers wasted $30 worth of milk. I started with 1 gallon of milk as directed and ended up with a 1lb easily much like you would buy whole mozzarella in the store perhaps even a bit more. I didn't weigh it.
Perhaps the rennet is the issue and may buy some liquid rennet.
Overall the kit is a novelty but does work. I am no longer intimidated by making cheese!

I bought this because I have always wanted to make cheese. I decided to try it while my grown son and his girl friend were visiting and we made cheese together. We had so much fun and I am still making my own cheese. This instructions are clear and it has everything you need except the pot and I bought these utensil to use with it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FK1YX4W/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_6

SUPER easy!! Store bought milk did not work, my first batch was a complete BUST! I bought into a cow share and pasteurized it and tried it again, and worked beautifully! First successful batch I did not add the salt, and that was a mistake, definitely needs salt. Second batch (successful) I put the suggested amount of salt in, and it still needed a little more. Other than that, it is a GREAT experience! And PLENTY comes with it for many many batches!
Very unsatisfied!

I am very unhappy with this item. I followed the directions to a T & failed 3 times. I even purchased the recommended stainless steel utensils and expensive milk. After reading up on it, I am convinced that the rennet that came with this kit is old and ineffective. No phone number on their site., which I think is wrong. They sell Efferdent thru dog chews. Possibly all overstock items?
Good for eating but too much will clog you up.

This was our second kit so we knew what to expect. We went to a friends house and made cheese, had whine and crackers. It was a good time. Kit is well worth the money. But don't eat too much cheese. It'll clog you up for 3 days. When it finally let loose, I thought I was giving birth. Lord have mercy.

Great little starter kit when you don't know what the heck you are doing. From here you can graduate to the big way of doing things but this is recommended for a newbie. Fast shipping and well packed..came with what I was expecting. Makes a great gift for a DIY person.
Fun kit, but not entirely necessary

As the title says, it's a fun kit for family activities or maybe as a present. The included instructions are sometimes helpful, but I found the instructions for mozzarella to be a bit unclear until I went to YouTube for videos.
As for the other part of the title, the instructions are readily available on the internet and the included materials are a bit of butter muslin, citric acid, and non-iodized salt. If you plan on doing this regularly, I suggest picking up those in bulk in the long run.
Quick and easy first-time mozzarella

Quick and easy mozzarella - my first time and only takes a few minutes! I used the freshest whole milk I could find - (Lucerne) from Safeway, which I heard sometimes has mixed results (the right milk is the key). But it turned out well. The curds took a while longer to settle, but just before I gave up, everything fell in line. The cheese (microwave method) was easy to stretch and had a nice shine. Super easy and even comes with salt for the cheese (next time I'll use a bit more than the recipe suggested). I didn't need the cheesecloth (had a fine strainer) or thermometer (heard the temp gage was sometimes faulty and had another basic I could use). The pack could have come with some gloves for pulling the hot cheese, but at the end I got through the heat on my hands.
I was also anxious to try Standing Stone Farms basic kit for about the same price (which seemed to have better options/ingredients), but this kit had everything I needed (and didn't need).
Great Ricotta

The ricotta came out great!... but I couldn't get the mozzarella curds to reform into a ball of mozzarella.
It's a fun project but I went through 3 gallons of whole milk. Maybe a missed something. will try again when I have an hour or 2.
