Good product

I own this product and have for almost nine months. It works as stated. The reason I'm writing this review is to counter the one star rating whose writer questions the lack of "UL rating." First, I question the motives of someone who rates an item without owning it. Second, I question the writer's intent when calling the TUV little known. Perhaps it is little known in the US, but it is the UL equivalent organization in Germany. And, after having lived in Germany, can tell you that TUV, if anything, is considerably more strict than our UL. I knew of TUV, but I also just Googled it, to refresh my memory. Obviously the one star rater didn't bother to check Google. At any rate, the only quibbles I have with this product is that the faceplate cover is more flexible that our standard plastic outlet covers and doesn't fit quite as well since it is only held on with the standard center faceplate screw. I also think it is a bit overpriced but until more manufacturers are producing them, that won't change. Minor complaints, this product works as advertised.

BEFORE YOU ORDER
by Benjamin Szweda (3 out of 5 stars)

BEFORE YOU ORDER take out the plug you currently have and see how big your box is. If there is not room for an extra inch of depth and a half inch of width in your box this product will not fit in that box and probably no where in your house. Sad, I know. You could make it work, but that is a larger job that I want to take on at the moment. This product is a standard outlet with a rear attachment measuring about an inch in depth. It also extends to the left about a half inch. I am sadly returning it, perhaps I will reorder when I have time to tackle the project or ripping out the old small box.

Excellent Item

I can't believe it took this long for something like this to be made. I have owned this unit for 9 months and it has performed as expected. The installation was straightforward. The only difference was that the USB sockets mean that you have a little less space the maneuver the wires. I have this unit installed on our phone table and use it to charge both mine and my wife's phone while still keeping the landline plugged in. (Yes I am one of 4 people in the US that still have a landline :) I am hoping to find one that is GFCI to install in the kitchen so that I can keep my IPad plugged in while displaying the recipe I am preparing.

Duplex outlet with 2 USB ports
by Bill Wasserman (5 out of 5 stars)

The device fit snugly into the wall box but included competent directions and was reasonably easy to install. It is much preferable to using device chargers that typically come with products which usually remain plugged in and using some electricity. Between my wife and I we had four chargers plugged into wall outlets. The chargers were used infrequently but remained plugged in so we didn't have to search for them when they were needed. Now we have one USB socket populated with the cable for our MP3 players and the other is populated with a mini USB cable with a removable micro USB adapter which handles both of our smartphones and other rechargable devices.

Works with my iPhone 5
by Ted (5 out of 5 stars)

I got this solely for charging my iphone & iPad on the kitchen counter. Hoping that I wouldn't need to use the little block with the USB cord to charge with. Fortunately, it works flawlessly! Both my iphone 5 & ipad 2 recognized it as a charging source immediately. The product is high quality and the packaging was very well padded. I'll probably buy more in the future.

The only bad thing I can say about it is that the places you connect the wiring to are a bit difficult to wire to, but that's it.

I give it a 10 out of 10.

Perfect!

We lost the charging cable for our iPad2 once and we had no way to charge it. (It was found behind the sofa a few days later.)

With these outlets, I don't have to worry so much. I bought some cheap and LONGER usb connections for the iPad, and now have several places to charge it!

Also works great for our smart phones. Without bulky connections. Using the USBs leaves the outlets free for other electronics, or toaster, since we have one at the side end of our kitchen counter. Where we usually leave our electronics charging.

We're also using one on our RV.

Great product, but check the size or your outlet.

I love this nifty product, however, if you have an older home that's not been grounded, or one that's been upgraded, but still has the original housings, then this may not fit. After getting all the wires hooked up (the directions are really easy to follow, and if you're a little confused just search on E-How really quick) I discovered that this outlet is about half an inch larger than a normal outlet due to the USBs. I was forced to pick another outlet that was slightly larger and barely fit this outlet in. Other than that, the product works wonderfully.

Convenient

This product was easy to install. Turn off the power at the circuit breaker, uninstall the old receptacle, install the new receptacle, turn on the power, go!!!! It's really nice now that I don't have to use up the two receptacles to charge our mobile devices, i.e., iPhone, iPad, Kindle Fire, Samsung phone, etc.

Cons: Pricey, but it's a new product.

Watch out for the box.
by John (4 out of 5 stars)

The box that the receptacle fit into in my wall was a bit to small. I have the metal type box and I think that the plastic style has a bit more room in them. However with a little creative engineering and a foot shove I was able to make it work.

The plastic front cover is very cheep but what do you expect for free. The socket itself seems to be working fine and I am loving the space and clutter reduction.

Wish I would have found these a long time ago.

This U-Socket Outlet will surely cut down on clutter and free up a lot of outlets in our home. Watching the instruction video on FastMac's website/yutube made installation a breeze! The first place I attempted to install it, the outlet in our kitchen island, was too small to fit this but the box above the kitchen desk was perfect. I plan on buying another one in the near future, modifying the outlet box in the island so we can have a charging station there as well.
