Great little timer for keeping kids on task!
by Angela (5 out of 5 stars)

We love this little cube timer by Datexx. We bought the white cube which has preset times for 5, 15, 30 or 60 minutes. (Note that each different colored cube has it's own set of 4 different preset timers.) We found these times perfect for setting time limits for our kids for various activities such as cleaning their rooms, video game/electronics time, time outs, quiet time and reading homework. It also adds a little bit of a fun element to getting their chores done quickly to try and beat the timer. :) It has been a life saver for our family! Just flip the timer over to the appropriate time limit and your good to go! I highly recommend this little miracle timer!

Great Timer for Families & Individuals Alike!
by AnnaW141 (5 out of 5 stars)
June 2, 2011

We ordered this on the recommendation of a speech therapist that was speaking on Executive Function of the brain. The idea is to help your child learn the feeling of how long it takes to complete things. It's also useful in limiting video game or computer time.

If you want to set it to the 30 minute timer, you simply turn the "30" to be at the top of the cube. What I really like is that it doesn't tick or have any other noise going on as the time goes by. When the time is up, it starts beeping until you turn it to the side with the zero on top.

My son, who has ADHD, has found it useful just to get started on homework which is a big plus. I say, "Just do 15 minutes of math now and then you can take a 45 minute break." He seems to get most of it done and then usually goes ahead and finishes before taking his break. Sometimes just getting started is the really hard part for him. He's a teen, so for younger children with the same problem, I might use the 5 min side.

We also use it for him to spend 5 minutes on picking up his room everyday. It keeps his room from becoming such a disaster area by the weekend when the heavy duty cleaning happens.

I really like to use this for myself when I want to take a break from work and relax, read, or surf the net. It keeps me from overdoing it.

Likewise, I can use this for a fast 5 minutes of cleaning on a certain room. The timer helps me focus in on what will make the biggest difference.

CONS: I, too, wish it had a 10 minute side, but a quick flip to zero and then back to 5 does work.

Since this timer does not easily allow you to see how many minutes are left, so it doesn't work for some things. I hardly ever use the 60 minutes and I haven't used it for cooking.

I am ordering two more for different parts of the house such as the office and the family/kitchen area. It's also nice that the price has decreased a couple of dollars.

Really bad quality
by C. Qu (1 out of 5 stars)

9 months later both of the cubes (this and pink one) stopped working. Just threw them away - a great concept but quality is just... Sick of this non-stop flow of Chinese made rubbish. Look elsewhere.

This cube might save your life
by Cara Likes To Read (5 out of 5 stars)

I love this thing!!!!!!!! Sooooooooo simple and perfect to use. I'm a writer, which not only means I'm sitting on my a** all day, but also that I get totally lost in my head and completely lose track of time while at the computer. (Random digression: one of my kiddos asked me for something the other day while I was writing, and when I told him "5 minutes" he asked, "5 real minutes or 5 mommy minutes?" ... which apparently is like dog years, but in reverse, and roughly equates to an hour later and/or whenever I'm done with the current scene ... note, this is NOT a fault of the timer, LOL! In fact, I don't even use the 5 minute side, instead...) I primarily use the 30 min timer as a reminder to get out of my chair and move for a few minutes so my body doesn't completely atrophy and turn into a pile of primordial goo--because my bestie saw this thing on {CNN? YouTube? An episode of RuPaul's Drag Race? Ok, probably not that last one... idr where he saw/read/heard it... unimportant... moving on...} that basically said sitting will KILL YOU if you don't move at least every 30 minutes, which is arguably both worse and less gross than dissolving into a lump of Jabba the Hutt-esque sludge--and uh, where was I going with this? (Note to self, rambling 6 a.m. reviews thumb-pecked out on my phone with no editor and not enough sleep will not necessarily be either articulate or helpful to other buyers) ... anyway, steering things back to the wonder of this little cube that I adore: a) I'm always shocked how fast 30 minutes goes by, and b) I used to try to accomplish the same 30 minute reminder thing with an online, onscreen, pop-up timer, but THAT method took way too many clicks to reset and also involved hopping tabs on my browser, all of which allowed for the potential of accidentally falling down an Internet rabbit hole of distraction and losing far, far more than 30 minutes (and I'm not just talking time... I've lost story-threads, my good spirits, my sanity, and entire trains of thought down those rabbit holes. Thankfully, though, I've yet to lose my soul, my belief in humanity, or any small children) ... but back to THIS WONDER CUBE: can confirm, no rabbit-hole danger in the simple act of flipping it back over. So easy! So quick! So likely to save you from the potential of death-by-the-slow-but-inevitable-slide-into-sedentary-sloth-and-sorrow if you sit at a desk all day! 10/10 would recommend! ☆☆☆☆☆

Great Shower Monitor
by Designer Mom (5 out of 5 stars)
May 9, 2017

This is perfect for households with children who empty the entire hot water tank taking a shower. I put a note on the outside of the shower enclosure to remind them to set it and so far it's been a big help. It couldn't be any easier to use - just turn the "15" up and it starts. I took a guess about the amount of time needed for a reasonable shower and 15 minutes was just about right for shampoos and leg shaves. The chime on the one we received is an electronic beep sequence, not steady like a fire alarm. I just hope it holds up to the moisture in the bathroom. This is an easy solution to a persistent problem. It won't be long before it's paid for itself in hot water savings.

Fantastic except for the sound
by Quick Red Fox (3 out of 5 stars)
August 17, 2012

This is an extremely cool little device, but with one big flaw for me: the alarm is a really shrill, jarring sound, like a smoke alarm. Other than that, I love it. I just wish they could make it with a different alarm option. I'd use it so much more often if I didn't have to hear that alarm every time!

it's perfect. I've had problems with mechanical timers that stop ...
by Scott (5 out of 5 stars)
April 10, 2017

The brilliance is in the simplicity. It has a choice of 4 times (I got the 1-5-10-15 minute combination, but there are others.) Place the side with the time you want face up, and after the set number of minutes, it'll beep at you. Flip the 0 side back up, and it'll turn off.

Obviously, if the 4 times don't fit what you need, you're out of luck. If you have something for which a fixed timer works (I have a 15-minute task that I use this for), it's perfect. I've had problems with mechanical timers that stop part way through, and electronic timers where the buttons wear out, and though I've only had this for a couple of months, I haven't had any problems yet.

It also has a little high/low/off switch, and a digital countdown display. There's not a big difference between the high and low loudness settings. The display is hard to read - it's only right side up for one of the 4 choices, so if you need to be able to read that easily, it could be a problem. You supply the AAA batteries.

I've seen other reviews where people don't like the alarm sound. It sounds like my digital alarm clock, and you can decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

A Better-than-Anticipated Motivational Tool!
by SG (5 out of 5 stars)
August 29, 2016

I bought this to help motivate myself and my kids to tackle tasks. It has helped all of us way more than I anticipated!

I use it in 2 ways:
1. In a beat-the-clock fashion (ie, "Can we finish in X minutes?")
2. In a limited-time fashion (ie, "Let's do as much as we can of in X minutes.")

I'm honestly surprised by how well this is working with my kids. They love to set the timer, even if we don't need to time something. They have also begun requesting I set it for things like sharing and bath time. Unexpected, excellent additional use!

At first I didn't like that it sounded like my alarm clock, but it doesn't bother me at all now that I see how well it works. It could make fart noises for all I care, as long as my children keep loving it. Actually, that would probably make them love it even more.

Best non-Kindle purchase I've ever made here!
by sgw (5 out of 5 stars)

Seriously, these cubes - I have the white one that goes up to 60 minutes max, and one that's 30 minutes max - are absolutely terrific. Nothing could be simpler - switch the cube on (I keep it turned off till ready to use and the batteries last forever), put the time limit you want on the top side of the cube, and go. And for me, that's 'go to sleep'. Yep, I'm one of those people who needs naps during the day, and there's nothing better than coming home for a 50 minute lunch time, sticking something in the microwave, and setting the cube to 10 minutes for a quick nap while lunch cooks. (And believe me, when you're really tired, the simplicity of the cube is wonderful, since it only takes about 30 seconds to set up before heading off to napland.) For those mornings when I have time to go back to bed for a while, I set it for an hour - but I also use the lower times as well, for everything from timing setting a phone call limit to timing exercise intervals. Keep in mind that the different color cubes all have different minute limits on them - and that you really only need to switch it on when you're using it, so will save the battery for a long time. And nap on!
