50/50 Shot at a Good one....but not for me.
by Allg33k (2 out of 5 stars)

Reading the reviews it seemed like a 50/50 chance you would get a good one. I took the gamble for the novelty of it. Both came broken that the entire top would come off and one had a big crack in the side. I super glued them back together and it seems that they will work for at least once. I think it's still cool even though I had to fix it. I would imagine one of these brands on here is the actual one and the rest are knock offs. This is definitely the knockoff with bad quality control but a little super glue and it may be ok.

fragile like. I feel like if i accidentally drop it
by Carrie (1 out of 5 stars)

First thing, the ball got stuck in the lever part that opens the maze. Its not well made, fragile like. I feel like if i accidentally drop it, it will break/crack instantly. So i lightly tapped on it trying to get ball unstuck but no luck. I feel if i tap any harder the plastic will crack. Also the box states ages 3 & up & i just don't see it surviving long in the hands of toddlers, as they drop things often. The idea is great for birthday gifts but I will be looking for a better made one in the future.

A good laugh

I may have accidently broke this while trying to insert money in as a gift for my 17 year old niece. This was my first sign of things gone wrong. I was able to superglue the lid back on as well as a finger (did get the finger unstuck thankfully) and give it to her for her birthday. However, after trying off and on for two hours while we were there, she got the little ball stuck on one side of the opening latch (it skipped over the lever to an open side, don't ask) and we had to pry the lid back off to open it anyways. It was a very funny experience that she'll remember for years to come which is why I'm still giving this a 3 star instead of a one. The last one I bought was much better. It's a cheap gift so don't expect it to last.

Good Gift Package (Fits Gift Cards), Appropriate Quality for the Price
by Broken (4 out of 5 stars)
November 27, 2013

This is an interesting item because it can function as a gift item (where you put the gift inside) and an actual piggy bank with a slot on top.

I bought it for the former, as an inexpensive $6ish way to give a gift card (and yes, an Amazon gift card fits inside).

As a gift giver, it is decent. The maze is not really complex, so if you are giving to a kid (which I am) then it is fine. If you are an adult, it is pretty simple. There are not a lot of "bad routes" you can take. Essentially if you go the wrong way you get blocked off pretty quickly so you never have to backtrack very much.

The ball is very close to the exit when you get it which is good, so you can basically just open it and put the gift in.

The latch seems pretty cheap. I don't expect it to last long, but for the price I can't complain.

I will state a tip, when you open the maze and are ready to close it, make sure the ball is on the correct side of the latch.

To me it seems easier to have it on the opening side, then back track the ball until it meets the difficulty I think is appropriate.

If you don't, then you will need to take the ball all the way around, which is essentially the hardest the puzzle could be. Again, not too difficult, but I didn't want that for who I was giving to.

I love the 3d concept, but the product quality could be a little better
by bookfan&fun (3 out of 5 stars)

Overall, the product mostly delivered on the concept--make the recipient work a little to "earn" that gift of cash/check. I think that a few minor changes could take this from a 3-star to 5-star review as I think the price to quality was pretty close. I did note three issues that would make the product better.

The first issue is that the product arrives with a piece of paper on the inside of the box. Since there is a slot at the top of the box to slip in cash or a check, it would have been better to have nothing on the inside to start. I ordered three of the puzzles, two of which arrived in the "solved" position, but one did not. It only took about 10 minutes of manipulation before I solved it so that I could remove the paper for my check. However, if their wasn't paper inside to start, it would have saved me that time. Alternatively, there could have been a pull-tab to open the box for the first use.

The second issue is that the plastic latch to open the box had some rough finishing errors, so it did not open too easily once the puzzle was solved. Two of the three that I gave away needed to be solved twice due to this issue. The point of giving a gift this way is to make them work a little, but it was disappointing that the puzzle needed to be solved in such a delicate way in order to open.

The third issue is that there wasn't enough interior room to put a gift card of credit card size. It appeared to me that they could have made a few adjustments to fit a card, so I'm a little baffled as to why that wasn't done.

Poorly Built Plastic Cube from China is what youre going to Get!!
by Brick Lover (1 out of 5 stars)
May 1, 2015

Had a lot of difficulty with these, ordered 10 of them after reading reviews just so I would get at least a few that worked right. The problem we had was once the ball is in place to open the door it doesnt without a significant smack, the plastic tab is poorly made and the weight of the ball is not enough to make it open with ease, even with a smack its a 50/50 as to whether it will open or not.

I would recommend something else, it is inexpensive but its also not very functional. Im pretty sure you will be disappointed.

Cheap quality, but get's the job done.
by Nate P (4 out of 5 stars)

I purchased this item as a Christmas gift, because I wanted to find a fun way to give the gift of money. I always felt money was such an impersonal gift, so I hated to give it, but my brother really needs money, and really likes puzzles, so this gift was perfect. It gets the job done, it's pretty fun, but simple.

CONS: The item is made very cheap, and the unlocking mechanism is very strange. I thought I was breaking it when trying to unlock it, because the plastic has to be moved very hard to get it to unlock. If you're giving this to a child, they may break it fairly quickly. The ball does get stuck quite often, and you have to pound on the side of the maze to get it to keep rolling.

PRO: Fun. Complicated, but not too complicated for a child to solve. It's definitely a fun, and creative way to give the gift of money. I also put the money in a little black bag, so the excitement of finding out what's inside really helps the gift.

Overall, it's definitely a great buy for a one time gift. I wouldn't recommend it if you want a maze/puzzle that they can solve frequently. It's simply made too cheap.

Great if you want to put a little zing in gift cards.
by Kindle Customer (5 out of 5 stars)

I understand why people want to get gift cards or money, but it always seems a little boring. When my nephew told me that my little-niece wanted gift cards for Christmas, I looked for a way to make it more interesting. This certainly did the trick. She opened the envelope that the card originally came in and gave me a very polite "Thank you." I said, "Did you notice there wasn't anything in the card? Open the box." When she saw that her gift card was secured within the maze she gave a little squeak and started to solve the puzzle. It kept her and several grown-ups busy for at least 20 minutes, but the box was finally opened. She gave me a few dramatic "What did I ever do to you???" but she was having fun with it. She's about 9 years old--it's probably too complicated for anyone younger.

So a couple of things. Read the directions when you first get the box. The ball is near the end of the maze to begin with, but you put the money or gift card inside, close the lid, then slide the locking mechanism with the ball over to lock the lid and put the ball at the start of the maze. There is also a slot in the lid, so the recipient can also use it as a bank. I don't know how durable it is, but it was definitely a hit.

Bad quality - Do not order
by vanhip (1 out of 5 stars)
December 25, 2012

Purchased 4 of these as Christmas gifts. None of them worked. The door wouldn't open after solving the puzzle. I didn't try them until the day before Christmas so I couldn't send them back and get in time for Christmas.

I found that if I slid the ball halfway I could use my fingernail to pull the door open. I found that the end of the little lever on the door had flashing on it. I got a small file and filed off the flashing. There was also some flashing around the edge of the door that needed to be filed off. After finding all the spots that were catching then filing off the flashing, the door then opened Ok after solving the puzzle.

Where is the quality control on these. It's obvious that they didn't test the door mechanism on these. Four out of four bad is terrible.

They are also not durable at all. They are made of pretty brittle plastic. One of them fell on the floor and a couple corners shattered and the ball came rolling out of it. Then the insides fell out when I went to pick it up. Luckily I had ordered an extra one.

Long story short, if you don't mind repairing your gifts before you give them then go ahead and order. Otherwise I would think twice.
