My Dad is a Japanese native who grew up in Japan and has been living in the US for almost 30 years. Fresh Taiyaki is impossible to come by where we live here in the US, so for Christmas I got him this maker. He was absolutely giddy and has been addicted to it since! If he gains 20 pounds this year, I know it'll be my fault. You can easily make delicious, fresh, warm Taiyaki with this device and a basic out-of-the-box waffle mix (yes there are better recipes from scratch, but we found the box recipe was good enough for us!). After a few practice batches, my dad was a pro. We use it on a glass-top stove and it works fine, especially if you follow the directions and pre-heat the pan on the stove.

Pretty shape, Non-stick. You can put inside whatever you like, I like.....#1ham and cheese, #2 custard cream, #3chocolate cream etc..... I recommend that you have to watch some how to video before you make Taiyaki. Enjoy!

We just received the package in 2 days shipped to spain (so fast!!), we tried to make some taiyaki filled with anko (sweet red bean paste) and they were delicious.

There you have a basic recipe for the dough (mix all the ingredients well):
1 egg
200 gr flour
4 tbsp sugar
220 ml water
1/2 tsp baking powder

You can search some videos to see how they make the taiyakis.

Expensive, but a good purchase!

I didn't realize how tiny the fish were. That is my bad, though. If I knew, I would think this is a bit on the expensive side to purchase. I would probably not purchase it.

However, when I used it to make Taiyaki, I didn't regret it anymore! They are so adorable. It's small, but that's how it fits on the stove top! The size is just perfect, so I don't get bored of eating Taiyaki. I can even try other flavor fillings while I am at it.

A Hit for dessert

Purchased this for family night to make dessert and it was a hit. I used pancake batter as the cake and vanilla pudding for the filling. The pan was easy to use and clean. With a little bit of butter spray, the fishies slipped right off the pan. You can use this on a gas stove or flat electric stove, personally I preferred the flat electric stove.

It's TOO perfect

Alright so this worked TOO well. I was expecting it to be a disaster but it worked so well that I ate 7 of them that I filled with Nutella and got sick afterwards. I used an online Tayaki recipe that I found that worked wonders. Maybe next time I'll have friends over because I was UNWELL after I ate them all. The skillet is truly non stick and the product is well built and unbelievably easy to clean. Also takes up literally 0 room in my cabinet.

Fun to make pancakes with

My family loves making 붕�-�빵 a Japanese dessert with red beans inside. We also use it to make pancakes just for fun and for our younger cousin. Easy to clean because it's cast iron. We've probably had it for two years now but it does fall apart at the hinge while cleaning. It's easily fixable though and great to use.

Usually I try not to buy single use kitchen items, but we love these filled with red bean paste, nutella, or even a fat fish-shaped pancake to dip in honey or maple syrup. This one is also easy to clean, which makes the single use a bit more tolerable. Make sure your flame isn't too close to the plastic handles or you'll get the burning smell.

Yummy little desert and fun to make

This is a great little desert and fun to make. Overall, a very nice product but a bit difficult to gauge the right temp initially on the stovetop. We have a smooth top range and after several trials the first time using, were able to perfect these little fish. We experimented with Nutella, chocolate chips and Jif chococolate cheesecake hazelnut spread as the filler and all turned out super tasty.
