The one that I finally got on the cat worked wonderfully.

My advice is to have at least 14 other people with you when you attempt to put these on your cat. Yes, I watched the YouTube videos for how to but I think the cat in that was on sedatives. The one that I finally got on the cat worked wonderfully.

I love these, but there are pros and cons to everything. Here's how I make these work:

I have a very calm, very tolerant 10 lb tortoiseshell female. She likes her belly rubbed, and she is fine with her paws being handled. I apply these caps and once I week, I replace any caps that have come off. Applying an entire set, front and back, takes me about 10 minutes from start to finish, but replacing caps as they come off takes about 3 minutes. Judging by how long different colors have remained on her feet, I would say that the caps average 3 weeks or so before being shed. I will break down what I do in case it could be of any help to other users.

Supplies:

Towel

Soft Claws

Glue

New Applicator tip for glue

Fingernail clippers

Clipnosis clips
(optional) Hood

Procedure:

I keep all of the supplies I need for application in a small mesh zippered pouch in the junk drawer of my kitchen. When I get ready to apply her nails, I lay down a towel on my kitchen counter (to place kitty on). I collect kitty, place her on the towel on her side, and apply Clipnosis clips. My cat will lay quietly in a zen-like state with the clips, but even without the clips she is easily manageable. I think if this is a terrifying procedure for your cat, you'll want to work on desensitization by playing with their feet more, providing lots of treats when they accept foot petting, then move on to just hanging out on the towel with the tools around, lots of treats, then eventually moving on to just nail clips with lots of treats, etc. If your cat is terrified of this procedure, clipnosis clips are not going to help, but if they are pretty calm about it all, clipnosis clips allow this to be easily done by one person with a totally chill cat who will just stay where you placed them until you're done.

So once I've placed the clips on kitty, she just chills out on the towel for a second while I take check her feet. Any nails that are missing a cap, I trim the nail with the fingernail clippers. You want them *short*. Don't clip the quick, because that will be painful and traumatic! But you definitely want them trimmed back short.

Once I've clipped the nails and counted how many caps I need, I will take out that number of caps and lay them on the counter. Take out a new applicator tip, clip the end off with the fingernail clippers (they ship with the ends closed off, so you need to clip the end off for glue to flow through the applicator), and then apply to the glue stick. Take your first nail cap, insert the applicator point INTO the nail cap, and squeeze the glue stick until the glue fills up the little cap. You want it to be nearly full of glue, but not so much so that it runs out and all over your fingers - then you just end up gluing yourself to the cap, the cat, or both. Hold the cats paw with one hand and depress the toe slightly to extend the claw, and place the nail cap on the nail. If the nail cap does not seat all the way back on the nail, the cap size is TOO SMALL or your nail is TOO LONG. Since you've already glue the cap on, just make a note of this for next time - either size up or trim the nail back further if you don't think you trimmed it enough. Its not going to hurt anything by not being fully seated on the nail, but it does make it easier for kitty to get caught in loose weave blankets (you need to make sure you don't have those kinds of hazards around) and it will make the nail cap shed off faster.

Once you have applied all nail caps, I leave kitty laying on her side while I pack up all the supplies. She needs to remain still and calm for a minute or so while the caps dry, or she could easily shed them before they set. I remove the applicator tip from the glue stick and close the glue stick. Discard the applicator tip - the glue remaining inside will dry hard and make it impossible to use next time. Then I remove clipnosis clips from kitty and give her a treat and some cuddles. I dump the glue stick, clipnosis clips, fingernail clippers and caps all back into the mesh bag, and zip closed. Voila!

A few notes on the negative reviews I have seen, and how to possibly avoid those pitfalls:

Yes, these nail caps can make it easier for your cat to get caught up in loose weave blankets - think knitted throws. I have had this happen to my kitty, and I had to put the offending throw in another location where she wouldn't be likely to get caught in it. This was an easy sacrifice for me to make to have an alternative to declawing.

No, my cat is not a problematic scratcher. We apply nail caps to protect our leather furniture from scratches it incurs from daily running. She likes to run and chase and parkour all over the furniture, and while she is not meaning to, this is damaging. So the nail caps eliminated that.

My cat does groom her feet immediately after application, and sometimes seems to chew on the caps, but is not obsessively grooming or gnawing her feet. If she seemed particularly bothered by the caps, I would probably try desensitization by only applying a few caps and seeing if she got used to them little by little, or by distracting her immediately after application with some food.

I have not had ANY issue with the caps not shedding in a timely manner - definitely no nails growing into her paw pads due to the caps not shedding. But I think if you're going to apply these caps, you should do your due diligence and check your cats feet once a week for any issues. You are applying an un-natural things to them, after-all. If you notice your cats nail is growing long and the cap is not shedding, take her to the vet to have the cap removed! They can remove it with a harmless solvent. I think that clipping the nails short before application and checking their feet periodically will eliminate this issue.

The better alternative to removing claws!

So far these are wonderful! Very easy to apply. I suggest gently wrapping the feline in a towe before you begin. It will prevent the fight.

The claw covers will save scratches on my kids and furniture. Boots seems to know she looks better with pink nails. Miss Priss :)

Kitten approved!

My boyfriend & myself have a new 3 month old kitten & also a slightly new $2,000 couch which we'd like to keep nice, so we tried these as a solution to the common kitten scratching. Our kitten can be very playful but usually she's a very relaxed cat, so applying these was very simple because I️ chose to do so while she sleeps. I️ read a review about wetting the fur around the paws before applying the nails if your kitten has long fur, our kitten is very fluffy, that was an awesome suggestion & I️ recommend that to others as well. Applying the glue inside the tiny little nails was very simple & applying the nails was also very simple! I'm only giving four stars because of the glue. The first two days we had the nails on, one or two fell off which was partly the glue, partly my applying nail skills but then as the week went on, I️ realized that the little cone funnels that they give you to put on the glue bottles, so that they may fit inside the tiny nails to full them with glue, only last for one use! I️ try to get the air bubbles out of them & get the remaining glue out of them but it's just impossible. & once the glue dries in that little funnel, it's too clogged to be used again. I'm going to try to find a stronger glue, as well. Idk if you can buy just the funnels but if you can, buy extras! Anyway, long story short my kitten has adjusted nicely to these so far! She doesn't really seem to even notice that they're on her nails! We chose a bright pink color for our trial period with these because I'd read reviews of people saying that the nails didn't fall off when the natural nail grew & they didn't notice & the cats nail got embedded into their little paws! I️ definitely don't want this to happen, so I️ highly recommend getting a bright color nail to start out with, at least because that way it's much easier to monitor them on your kitty! & also, when the nails fall off of her nails, is easier to spot them laying on the floor! Just a suggestion! We love them so far & they've definitely saved our couch & other furniture! Recommended!!

WAS DOUBTFUL, NOW A BELIEVER

AWESOME Product!!! So we ordered the pink caps for our little girl and trimmed her front nails before putting the caps on. For us it took my wife and I to put them on her. I held her down and comforted her while my wife put the adhesive in the caps and put the caps on her nails. Our little girl was not a fan of us putting them on, but we managed to get them on. The instructions then want your cat to remain still for 15-30 minutes afterwards to allow the adhesive to dry to the nails. Well, I managed about 5 additional minutes holding her down and petting her. Then she wanted to get the hell away from us evil parents for doing that to her. She tried licking her paws and chewing, then ran over to her scratching post and tried popping them off. Guess what? They held true and none came off. So they have been on her for 6 days now and she goes through her normal routine and the nails are still holding true. The package comes with enough caps to last about a month and a half to two. She no longer is able to scratch our furniture and we have since then moved out two leather reclining chairs to our living room. SUCCESS!!! Since declawing is no longer an option, this is the solution.

Easy, Effective, Worth It!

*Update to the update*

I wanted to go ahead and update this review because I'm going to say the 2 caps that fell off were because of user error. We are going on week 4 and she still has all the other caps on her nails! If they haven't fallen off by week 6 I will remove them myself to replace but I checked them today and they are holding strong! I am still loving these, they are still protecting my furniture and I will continue to buy them! 5 ⭐️
*UPDATE*

We got these a week ago and since then 2 of the caps have fallen off but they still seem to do their job? Moved to 4 ⭐️ since they are already falling off
*ORIGINAL*

These were delivered yesterday and I couldn't wait to get them on. We recently rescued a kitten who is now 4m and loves to use my couches as her scratching post 😩. I needed to find a solution and these were it since I refuse to declaw. They were super simple to get on and it's been a day so far, they are holding strong. She hasn't been able to scratch the couch like usual so it's a step in the right direction and I'm really happy with them. I will update this review should any issues arise so I can give the most accurate review but as of right now, 5 ⭐️

Glue is very difficult to work with
by Stephanie Giovannini (2 out of 5 stars)
January 16, 2018

I've had great difficulty in using these. The glue ends up all over my hands and the applicators. The applicators are clogged with glue and the glue dispensers are clogged. I had to cut some of the covers off the cat's claws because they didn't fall off before the claw started growing into her paw pad (too much glue). I have no idea how to effectively handle this glue. The instructions say to fill the claw 2/3 with glue but I can't see how much glue is in each claw cover until it spills over the top. I can't tell if the glue applicator is dispensing glue or clogged--the tube feels the same either way.

I wish there was a way to do this without the horrible glue mess. I've given up on this.

WARNING: NOT SAFE FOR CATS
by Eric R Niemeyer (1 out of 5 stars)
December 23, 2016

I applied these nail caps to my two cats several times, usually replacing caps that had fallen off within a week's time. We thought this would be a solution to keep our cats from scratching our hardwood floors. However, after my experience with these caps, I will never be using these nail caps or similar products ever again. I feel like a bad pet owner for using something that put my cats in harm, but the claims this product makes are misleading and lead to injury of one of my cats.

First of all, these caps simply did not work for one of my cats. No matter what size I purchased, they did not stay on his nails more than a day or two. In addition, they were so uncomfortable for him that he would chew on the cap until it tore it off. However, for my other cat, the caps stayed on VERY securely. The caps DID NOT naturally shed off like the product claims they do, and the glue left a residue behind on nails that the cap did fall off of.

Second of all, gluing the caps onto their nails became very a traumatic experience for my two cats. As a result, they began to avoid me and stopped showing me affection shortly after I started using the caps. In this same time period, I noticed that both of my cats became very sensitive about their paws, and I believe this was because as their nails grew out, the caps applied pressure upward into their nails and against their cuticles and caused them to become irritated. This issue is ultimately what made me decide to stop use of the nail caps.

Finally, because I did not want to cut into the quick of my second cat's natural nails to remove the nail caps (because, as I mentioned earlier, the caps did NOT shed on their own, and my cat scratches very frequently), I let his nails grow out longer than normal. When I did cut his nails, it was fairly easy and painless to cut the nails off. I thought I had removed all of the caps, but I missed one (I still don't know how.) I'm not sure if this happened within the week between the final removal of the other caps or if this is the reason I overlooked the last nail cap, but the remaining cap became embedded in my cat's nail bed. It's was very painful for him, and while the cap was able to be removed easily as well once I found it, it did damage my cat's pad and cause him a lot of pain.

PLEASE DONT USE THIS PRODUCT!!! The effects of these caps are overwhelmingly negative, and there are better ways to address behavioral issues such as scratching and preserving your house. ITS NOT WORTH THE HARM THIS PRODUCT CAN DO TO YOUR CAT.

An adorable and non painful way to save your furniture!
by Babylon (5 out of 5 stars)
March 13, 2016

I love love love these. One corner of my brand new couch is already destroyed, but I've saved the rest of it. I put these pink ones on my female cat. She's blind, but it doesn't hinder her in any way to wear these. She has no problems gaining traction or leaping on to the couch or doing any other cat thing she might be interested in (aside from tearing up my couch). She spent the first month pulling them off over and over, but we re-applied every time, and now she's given up and just lets them stay on until they fall off naturally. Did you know that declawing a cat is actually removing part of their little "finger" at the joint? It's pretty gruesome. These are a safe and cute alternative.

Impressed so far!
by C. Fawcett (4 out of 5 stars)

We've had our 2 year old shelter cat for 3 months and she is a really sweet cat. Really nice disposition and loves to play. Therein lies the problem. Her front claws are like little daggers. Our 3 year old has spent the last 3 months covered in scratches, and though it's not obvious yet, our furniture is taking the blunt of it too. Growing up our cats were always declawed, and we were blissfully unaware of the apparent inhumane nature of that procedure. We thought we'd give these a try to see how they work, and so far I'm impressed. It is a challenge to put them on our cat, who doesn't like having her paws messed with. Also, with the colored caps it's nearly impossible to tell how much glue you've put in. I may try the clear ones next time which would remedy that problem. The first batch have stayed on surprisingly well, a couple came off in the first day or two, but I think I just needed more glue in them. I don't really know that these could be any better.
