Product Description

Show off your grilling skills on camping trips and picnics and at tailgating parties with the Coleman RoadTrip LXE Portable Propane Grill. This outdoor grill combines a collapsible design with convenient features that facilitate grilling in tough conditions. The grill's individually adjustable dual burners each blast out 10,000 BTUs of heat, giving you enough cooking power to prepare a wide range of foods, from grilled veggies to thick slabs of steak. The Swaptop interchangeable design allows you to switch out the grill grates for a griddle top or stove grate (both sold separately), while the Instastart ignition lets you light the burners simply by pushing a button. Ideal for summer cookouts, this portable gas grill also excels in chilly conditions thanks to PerfectFlow technology, which helps ensure steady heat output. Sliding tables on both sides of the grill provide easy access to ingredients and utensils and can be tucked away for easy transport and storage. With its 285-square-inch cooktop, this grill offers a large cooking surface area without sacrificing portability. Its collapsible stand sets up in seconds and folds up for compact storage, while its large handle and wheels make the grill easy to transport. And thanks to its porcelain-coated cast iron grates and removable grease tray, this camp grill is easy to clean.

Very easy assembly and they even include the one tool you need...
by Bear (5 out of 5 stars)
July 23, 2015

After a lot of research, I ordered this grill.

I had a Coleman tabletop grill for years but I was looking something with its own stand and this is exactly what I had in mind!

Mine arrived today and I had it assembled in about 20 minutes.

Very easy assembly and they even include the one tool you need. (To attach the two wheels.)

It would have actually been a 5 minute assembly but I spent most of the time tugging on the grill to remove it from the very carefully packed and protected shipping box. But that's actually a good thing.

I have a small patio at my home and I didn't want a typical, large propane grill.

I also wanted to store it in my garage when not in use to protect it from the elements.

This grill fits the bill perfectly.

Very ample area on the grates to grill.

Seems like it can accommodate anything from a quick lunch to a small dinner party.

I've got a couple of great books on grilling and have been watching YouTube videos to learn more.

While I have grilled in the past, I want to kick my game up a notch!

Despite being made in China, this grill has a quality feel to it.

Coleman has been around a long time and clearly set the bar high for Chinese manufacturer to keep their brand reputation.

It has been a while so I started very simply for my first attempt.

Hamburgers with only fresh ground pepper and sea salt and a dash of Worcestershire sauce.

After 6 minute cook time, I let it rest in a plate covered with aluminum foil.

Result, hands down the best burger I have had in years!

I also separately purchased an instant read digital thermometer (only $10) for food safety and control over how well cooked I wanted my food. I gave some thought to analog thermometers but I am glad I chose this digital model. Far easier to accurately read.

I went to a store that sells, among other things, quality cooking accessories.

This one looks solid as opposed to the cheap looking ones at the supermarket for the same price.

This cool model snaps into a case that has a lanyard you can wear around your neck while grilling so you don't have to put it down.

A meat thermometer is a must, IMHO. I know a chef and he always has one in his uniform shirt pocket at work.

Brought the burgers up to 160 degrees F and perfection.

Needless to say, tomorrow I will not be going out for lunch or dinner.

Nor will I be heating up my house cooking indoors in the middle of the very hot summer here in South Florida.

P.S. Two easy tips to make for easier cleanup.
1) Line the metal bottom of the grill (a few inches below the grates) to catch any drippings or bits of food.

Cut out circular holes to fit the foil around the burners.

Be careful not to block the opening that leads to the grease drip tray.
2) Cut a small piece of aluminum foil to size to line the drip tray.

Cleaning it then consists of just disposing of the small piece of foil.

Adapted for Quick Connect on Trailer/RV
by RoMiller (5 out of 5 stars)

Obviously this isn't going to be as good to cook on as a full blown grill, but for its size and weight it's a neat grill. The heating is a little uneven, you have to be careful around the area where the solid section of the grill plate over the burner ends. At higher heats this tends to be quite a bit hotter than the rest of the grill and things will burn.

I adapted this to work with a quick connect fitting on our travel trailer and it works great. It folds down small enough to fit in one of our external storage compartments and is light enough to lift in and out without too many hassles. To do the adaption you just need an adjustable wench and some basic practical skills. I used the following parts to adapt it (see photos for detailed steps):
- Anderson Metals Brass Pipe Fitting, Forged Reducing Street Elbow, 1/4" Female Pipe x 1/8" Male Pipe
- Camco 59903 Propane Quick-Connect Fitting - 1/4" NPT x Full Flow Male Plug
- Rectorseal 31551 1/2 Pint Brush Top Tru-Blu Pipe Thread Sealant

I used the liquid sealant because I had it from working on natural gas lines in our house. If I didn't already have it, I would have probably gone with thread tape instead - LA-CO 44080 Slic-Tite PTFE Pipe Thread Tape, Premium Grade

Well built, cool design, perfect for an row-home
by Knightling (5 out of 5 stars)

Haven't cooked anything yet, but my parents have the same grill so I know that it works. Design is very cool and smart, a little larger than I expected (for example, to carry it end to end folded, my arms are at 45`), But it's definitely portable and easy to set up.

Notes:

Give it a good inspection upon taking it out of the box and read the setup directions fully. I dropped the grill when trying to stand it up at first because i couldn't find the hooks. Also, I put the tires on backwards. (i'm obviously awesome at putting IKEA furniture together, as you can tell).

Take a long sheet of aluminum foil across the inner tray and cut out holes for the burners and the grease drain. It's not a perfect system but it will reduce the grease stains and cleanup that is bound to happen. Also put a layer of aluminum foil on the drip tray in the back of the grill.

Solid, Sturdy, and Easy to Set Up
by E. Silva (4 out of 5 stars)

I grill. I like grilling. This thing is legit. The good: The grill is just like a regular home grill but in a smaller lightweight, portable package. The cooktop surface is better than some full size grills. It's a heavy duty solid metal rack. Not the thin metal that is bent to form the grill waves. They are also heavy so they can take some heat and not worry about warping. The pop out trays are a nice touch to hold your food or cooking utensils. I don't have strings on my grill tools to make use of the built in hooks. The construction is solid and set up is a breeze. It also worked well in the wind. My regular grill can have the flame blown out when the wind kicks up, but this little guy kept the flame going. All in all I am pleased. I didn't have any issues with the locking latch like some have had, but I also took an extra precaution and used a rock strap to secure the lid when traveling.

The Not So good: The grill hot spots get HOT, even when the flame is on low. So if you aren't paying attention you can easily burn your food. The hot spots are directly over the flame. Now that sounds like a, "no duh" but I don't burn food when directly over the flame of my regular sized grill. If you're an avid cooker you'll understand. But again just pay more attention to your food and move it to the cooler part of the grill. The other pain is that the burners are not covered. This is my biggest complaint. Grease from the metal grill surface can and will drip down into the area where the heating element is and it's pretty difficult to clean it out. They should really cover the flames to prevent that. That would probably also help to distribute the heat more evenly.

NEVER LIFT VERTICALLY BY THE HANDLE!!! Don't buy this thing....
by MK Ultra (1 out of 5 stars)
August 13, 2018

If you try to lift it vertically by the handle that you use to roll it, the clasp that holds it in the folded position will come undone and the BBQ will unfold. When this happened to me, the first day I had it, it dented and scratched the lid and broke the plastic piece that has the latch that keeps the lid closed. Also, you can't store it upright. It won't stand up, as it will be resting only on the carry handle on what is then the bottom. This thing is heavy. The shipping box said it was a minimum 2 man lift (ok, it's not THAT heavy, but it would be difficult for a small person to get it into the car). I'm giving it a one star for now, as it can't be rolled without the lid being latched, but will revise if can at least get a replacement part.

Also, part of what makes a BBQ grill a BBQ is the drippings from the meat are supposed to land on a hot surface, burn, and give flavor to the meat. The only part of this where that will happen is basically a grill pan, and you would be better off buying a pan with a lid for $15 and using it on a camp stove. Anything that doesn't fall on that surface will drop below the burner and not burn.

Update: I called Coleman right after I received this (and broke it), and they don't stock the replacement part. They said that they would ship it once it got in. It's a $6 part. A month and a half later, no replacement part...and now I can't send it back, and I cannot role it since the lid will open. I didn't think it was worth sending back because a $6 part was broken. Let that be a lesson to me.

BUY IT!
by ELLE (5 out of 5 stars)
March 25, 2017

ABSOLUTELY BUY!! Use it outside on balcony at apartment, and to the beach. Food tastes delicious grill flavor and it's easy to clean and put away. Not for large amounts of cooking at once but a must have anyway. People ALWAYS ask about it and want one for themselves. Great deal!

Great little grill. Wrong accessories listed with it.
by aaward (5 out of 5 stars)
July 13, 2017

This little grill is perfect for our uses. We just don't need a huge, cumbersome grill and don't really have a good place to keep one that large. This grill is compact and stores away in a very small space, yet has a surprisingly big grilling surface. It was a snap to assemble and easy to use.

BUT- here on Amazon, there is a link with suggested accessories for this grill. One of the accessories listed is the "Coleman 5 foot High Pressure Propane Hose and Adapter" to link the grill to a large propane canister (instead of using the small canisters that attach right to the grill). This is NOT the correct hose! We had to go to Lowe's and purchase a "Char- Broil Universal 4-ft Hose and Adapter", which hooked up and was usable in seconds.

coleman road trip grill

This is truly an awesome gas grill for a couple or small family. The wheels are so nice when wanting to move it around. It started right up without a match (the starter works really well) I did buy the extra tubing, which you will need if you plan to attach it to a larger tank sitting on the ground. The two side tables slide in and out really easily. I also bought some of the grill cooking mats (black ones) and they kept the grill really clean and still allows grill marks. I really like this grill! I never hesitate to update my review should new info seem useful.

UPDATE: 7/29/2017... So... I have been using this grill for some time now and I still love it. I do use the the grill "mats" and they work wonderfully with this grill, helping to keep it clean. The wheeled cart makes it SUPER easy to move and put away. The starter works perfectly on the first pop. I just have nothing but good to report. A note: The hottest part of the grill is the outer edges of the grill... the center of the grill plates (2 of them) are solid and I have found that the edges are hottest. So I cook stuff "around" the edges and as things cook, I move it more toward the middle to keep warm. Just my opinion of what works in my experience.

UPDATE: 8/9/2017..... I keep using this grill and am happy. I will say that I have noticed that if you use the black or gold grill sheets you need to be super sure that when you're done that you've actually turned the grill off. I had turned the knob to what I thought was "off" and it was actually on super low burn... I had left the grill sheet on it. No harm... but I did throw the sheet out as it kind got crispy on the burn side... You just need to actually look at the burner - it runs so quietly you might miss it on super low! :)

Great - when it worked.
by mathspan (1 out of 5 stars)

I bought this grill because I wanted something that would be quicker than our preferred charcoal grill, when we didn't want to bother with starting a fire, etc. The grill looked great and worked great right out of the box with minor assembly. I bought the Coleman cover for it as well. We used it for one summer. The next year, thing wouldn't start at all. I swapped out the propane tank, thinking perhaps that was the issue. Nope. Then after some research, I reset the regulator, over and over again. Nope. Then I bought a new regulator, which cost $40, and was about 1/3 the price I paid for the grill, but I figured that if it worked, then it's still cheaper than getting a new grill. Nope, still didn't work. Gas was clearly being released but would never ignite. One year is all I got out of a $120 grill. What a dud. I saw that some people have had this very same issue with this grill but I was hoping that I would be one of the many others who didn't. Nope. Disappointing and I won't buy a Coleman grill again.
