The standard Bic lighters that are about $5 for a three pack worked fine at 11

Don't buy. I researched survival lighters and chose this $60 one for elk hunting this year. It came fueled but didn't light reliably at my home altitude of 6,500'. I took it hunting and after a rain/sleet storm at 11,000' it wouldn't light at all...or enough to get fire starting aides to burn. I purged the fuel and refueled it with a new can for butane. It lights on 8 of 10 tries but in general is not reliable. The standard Bic lighters that are about $5 for a three pack worked fine at 11,000' on the same day this one wouldn't. For survival equipment I use the survival matches you can get at walmart that come boxed or in a sealed orange plastic container with the striker on the side and Bic lighters. They both performed great in rain/sleet and wind. Also, Amazon will not refund your money or accept for a return because it was shipped fueled. They also didn't respond to the email link on the return page.

USE 5 TIMES REFINED FUEL ONLY...The lighter will last longer. Use Ronson fuel put lighter in the trash..2 review The first lighter still works I smoke 2 packs of cigs a day.Yes I ordered another to have for back up.I have the first lighter a little over year & half I use XIKAR HIGH PERFORMANCE FUEL ONLY IN ALL MY LIGHTERS.

always like windmill lighters - last one broke because it got in contact with DEET anti mosquito liquid which wrecked the plastic

this one is their top tier version w metal plating - this isnt actual metal but plated - works great - perfect outdoor camping fire source

Sorry but I cannot really rate this particular lighter because it never arrived and I have been refunded. However, the lighter was ordered to replace a worn out Windmill AWL which had served me faithfully and efficiently for many, many years. It is light weight, has a good sized fuel reservoir and always lights no matter the weather conditions. But............the current UK price of over £100 is extortionate. I often wonder just how many they sell at that price.
