it's easy to use

Where oh where has this been all my life? This has got to be the coolest kitchen gadget that is in my house right now, hands down. Cutting a pineapple has always intimidated me frankly and I never wanted to do it. Now, I find myself buying a pineapple weekly!! Most of all, it's easy to use! So easy!! I tell everyone about my awesome pineapple corer, even the lady stocking pineapples at the store who thinks I'm nuts. The best part is that you are left with an awesome hollow juicy pineapple that you can pour a tropical drink in and sip out of. Great product!!!

The product works well and can't beat the price!

When the box arrived I was a little put off to the fact that it just looked a little old. Like it was sitting on a shelf for a long time. The box was a bit faded and looked like it had been handled a bit. There isn't much to it, a stainless steel corer and a plastic handle. The stainless steel section had some whitish glue on some spots where it was being held together, but that did not bother me too much. There is definitely a learning curve, I have only done one pineapple so far and have attached a picture of the results. I went too far the first time and had to take off a couple of rings, it is a little hard to pull out as well after you drive it in. You have to detach the plastic handle and turn it upside down to release the rings all in one piece. It definitely works, not the highest quality but for the $6.00 or so that it cost I am very happy with it.

like an "as seen on tv" item
by Gregg Edwards (5 out of 5 stars)

I thought this tool was a joke when I saw it, like an "as seen on tv" item, but I read the reviews and decided to give it a chance. This little tool is very cool. Just cut the top part off the pineapple, insert the tool and twist. Within seconds, you have a long curly line of pineapple. If you're artistic and creative, I'm sure you could do something really cute with the top of the pineapple and the outer portion - it basically leaves you with a pineapple cup. This is something I would never usually look twice at or just think that it's one more thing to take up room in my junk draw, but it's made getting to fresh pineapple so easy, I am really pleased with my purchase because I LOVE pineapple and wasn't about to poke myself repeatedly to get some. I don't like the canned stuff either. So if you want fresh and easy - just try this weird little tool - it really is good!

Makes my life easier

We love to dehydrate fruit at our house. Our dehydrator is full of pineapples, bananas and apples basically 24/7. This tool has helped us so much. it makes cleaning pineapples a breeze, literally. It cuts down on waste drastically, which is important when you're talking about pineapple. They can be expensive! It also manages to get the most out of the pineapple without dealing with and try to cut out all those hard points. There are a couple of reasons why I don't give it 5 stars. First, it could be a little bit sturdier. The metal part and the handle come apart by design (you will understand when you get one if you aren't already used to using one) but when you take them apart and put them back together it can be a difficult fit sometimes. Second, I wish it cut the rings a little bit thinner. In order for me to use the rings to dehydrate I have to cut them in half. Third, and not a huge difficulty, but there are some points where pineapple can get stuck in the metal. I suggest you rinse the tool promptly and remove any remnants of pineapple before there is any chance for it to dry.

Conclusion: If I were asked if I would buy it again, the answer is a resounding yes.

If this review has helped you decide whether to purchase this product I would appreciate if you would mark "helpful" below. Thanks!!

Cheap Plastic Handle
by Travel Pro (1 out of 5 stars)

I purchased this item primarily because of all the positive reviews. I did not like this item at all. The handle is made of some sort of cheap plastic and when it is inserted into the metal piece, bits of the plastic would break off. While the item did cut into and slice the pineapple fine, when I would pull the slices out of the pineapple the pieces would be covered in tiny, plastic flecks. I had to throw out two pineapples sliced with this because each was covered in so much plastic, it didn't seem safe.

Finally! Fresh pineapple, even for a clutz like me!
by Shelly Hokanson (5 out of 5 stars)

This gadget is brilliant! I almost wrote it off as gimmicky, but between the stainless model and its plastic sibling, this little slicer had so many positive reviews that I decided to roll the dice. I've never cut my own fresh pineapple for fear of losing a finger. I'm a clutz. Sharp knife + angry fruit = bloodshed. I deemed pineapples too dangerous for me... until I got this slicer!

It's fast and easy to use - much easier, in fact, than I had anticipated. I thought there would be a good amount of pressure required to screw the slicer into the fruit, but that wasn't the case. Simple twisting did the trick. My slices came out perfectly! It literally takes about a minute to slice the whole pineapple.

The box mentions that this is the "medium" sized slicer, intended for pineapples in the 3-5 pound range. Any larger, and you'll end up with extra fruit left inside the pineapple shell after slicing.

The slicer did not come with instructions (gah!) so be sure to watch the little demo video on Amazon's product page. I also wrote up my first experience with the slicer, including photos:[...]I am so excited about this slicer! Viva la pineapple!

No more wasting delicious fruit!
by Sara B. (5 out of 5 stars)

This pineapple slicer has pretty much changed my life. I'm horrible at cutting up pineapples and mangos, I feel like I waste so much of the fruit struggling to get to the edible parts. We recently went to Hawaii and I fell in love with pineapples all over again, only to sigh over the fruit wishing I was inept in the kitchen. Not anymore! The process is a little messy, and I would recommend using the slicer over a plate to avoid a huge mess. You cut off the top, the bottom, insert the slicer and use it almost like a cork screw, and cut open the skin of the pineapple (I imagine it like a jacket) to get any extra meat of the pineapple from the inside of the husk. The device is easy to remove from the fruit (unfortunately a little difficult to really clean). I use a corkscrew to pull the core of the pineapple out of the device since I really can't figure out how you could do it with your fingers.

Life changing...
by S T (5 out of 5 stars)

I'm not exaggerating when I say that this product is life changing. (Ok... maybe a little, but it IS a great tool!) I was a little skeptical of how easy this would be to use, but I was pleasantly surprised. Cut the top off of your pineapple, position the tool over the core and twist! No force or strength is needed. You'll know when you hit the bottom as you will not be able to twist anymore. Rock it back and forth and pull the tool up until the perfect rings pull out! To ensure you get the most out of your pineapple, I would suggest getting a longer, thinner fruit, but any pineapple works. You NEED this in your kitchen!!

Must have for pineapple lovers!

This is the perfect tool for cutting pineapple. Where has this been all of my life? You just need to cut the top of the pineapple off, place the blade on the top center of the pineapple and apply a little pressure as you turn clockwise. The tool does the rest of the work. You can tell when the pineapple is cut to the bottom, then simply pull up on the tool and you will have perfectly cut rings. You can cut an entire pineapple in seconds! The tool is stainless steel and easy to clean. I have washed it in the sink and the dishwasher. The black handle easily detaches and re-attaches. I have cut several pineapple with excellent results each time. I have recommended this product to friends and they have purchased it too!

Very nice tool!
by Royall Clark (4 out of 5 stars)

I don't know why I've not bought one of these a long time ago. Heck, I live in Hawai'i!!! The tool worked very well. It did seem to mush the fruit a bit because the cutting edge isn't that sharp. Maybe that is so people don't hurt their selves! Warning!... Don't cut all the way through the bottom end because there is going to be a lot of juice left behind when you pull the fruit out of the husk. I got about 1//2 cup from my very ripe pineapple and the juice could have been all over the counter if not the floor too! When I cut my pineapple, I used a small amount of pressure pushing down to make sure if fed in at an even rate. Next time I may try a little less pressure to see if it could cut a little cleaner. I gave the tool a 4 star rating as I feel that the cutting edge could be a little sharper and also, maybe a better fit where the outer vertical cutter is attached. As it is with my tool, the fruit pulp got stuck in the seem at that point and was a little hard to clean out when finished.
