Unpleasant Bird

I used to have the monkey version and I loved it. We called him Peeler Monkey and he was beloved by all. Then he died one day -- his blade came loose and he was no more. We replaced him with this bird. We imagined he'd become our Peeler Bird and we would love him as we had loved Peeler Monkey. Nope. Peeler Bird is not compliant at all. He refuses to peel. We have to fight him every step of the way. His beak blade is not sharp enough and it makes our hands ache to try to get the veggies peeled. We keep him in the kitchen accessory drawer and eye him suspiciously every time we open it. I might invest in a peeler that we can't anthropomorphize to avoid future heartbreak.

My monkey was missing an eye when he arrived. I didn't notice it until I tried giving it to my adult daughter as a gag gift. She noticed it. When I started the return process Amazon gave me a refund and told me I didn't need to return the product so I tried using it. To my surprise I discovered that it works great and is ergonomically comfortable and easy to use with my arthritic hands. He is now my monkey peeler and I love him!

disgusted. packaging was all open. not sticky taped up at all.. NO BLADES. what is a peeler without a blade. USELESS. cannot even work out how to get the blades posted out to me. most probably fell out of the open packaging in transit..

Omgawd... best peeler ever! I have bought like 10 over the last few years. They are the best gifts! So... you can peel a large potato in like 10 seconds. Mike drop....

I use 2. One for fresh stuff and another one to peel butternut squash. Yes! It is that good! Also excellent for peeling citrus if you need the rind without pith.

Best thing ever! 20 stars if I could!

I bought this as a gift, so I can't speak to how well (or not) it peels potatoes, but it looks to be sturdy enough to do the job. It certainly arrived quickly, and would have received 5 stars had it not been for a missing right eye piece. I searched the packing high and low, but it was not to be found. My solution was to pop out the other eye piece...granted, it's (slightly) cuter with the sparkling eyes, but not enough to impact the overall look of the thing.

So, I bought this nifty little gadget jokingly for a Christmas gift - it was amusing, appeared functional, and didn't cost much. It was delivered on time, but it came without the metal peeler (I even checked the bag a few times to make sure I wasn't seeing things)! I was easily able to return the item, but had to get another gift instead. It was a good idea, but buyer beware.

i have bought several of these for my family and as gifts. have not had one break yet and its been years now. this pivots very easily on curved surfaces cutting kitchen preparation in time by a fraction. great for all sorts of veggies! very nice and sharp. Very safe to handle. This is a superior product that is well worth the price. I have bought other peelers that were supposed to be great but this one is so simple and functions exactly as intended.

I purchased this corkscrew as a gift for a friend along with a few other unusual kitchen items and this was by far the best made of the bunch.

It is heavy, substantial, and definitely feels like it should last for a few years. My friend was extremely pleased with the way it sits upright next to her wine bottles and I thought the silicone body felt comfortable when gripping the bird.

My friend's husband was familiar with Boston Warehouse design and said, "Man, would I ever like to work at that place!" He's an artist and furniture designer and thought that the BW design team was probably having a ton of fun dreaming up quirky kitchen tools.

Update 12/2012: Just visited my friend and the bird is still going strong! He looks and behaves as new. And she's used him to open hundreds of bottles of wine in the last two years. He never fails to be admired by party guests. Great job!

The best ice cream scoop ever!

This is the best ice cream scoop. Something about the shape just makes such a big difference on cold ice cream. This one has a goofy whale on it (and isn't packaged very nicely if it's a gift), but it works really well!

Comfortable, efficient, wears too quickly

It's adorable and super functional. The shape is actually really good for scooping and it's comfortable to use. But it's starting to bubble (corrode) on the scoop end despite the fact that we've only ever hand-washed the item, never left it soaking in corrosive solution, never used other metal utensils on it, etc. We've had it about a year. I am disappointed in the unusually quick wear-and-tear. It does still seem to be sanitary and nothing is flaking off into our ice cream, but it's obviously not as pretty now.
