I've had the Tovolo Perfect Cube Ice Tray, Set of 2, Dark Blue silicone trays for some years. They worked great for a couple years until they started to taste like the freezer. That being said I decided to explore some other options and this was unique so I grabbed it.

This is not the same as other silicone trays. Other trays can be put in the dishwasher for cleaning, and many silicone can even be put in the oven as baking trays. This is plastic like sports mouth guards are made of-- if you get it too warm ( like a dishwasher) it will curdle and melt into a pile of goo. Be aware of that. It does say it on the back of the package but not very prominently.

The item itself does work, but it requires a lot more agility to use. The space between the cubes is a single line of rubbery plastic, not a solid flat surface, so grabbing each one to eject the ice is a real challenge.

The cubes are small-ish, think the size of a jewel sucker ring from when you were a kid and you'll have the size understood. The cubes do melt fast because they're small.

That all being said (which sounded sort of negative-ish) if you have a particular need for jewel ice, this does do the trick slowly. I can see using it regularly for a novelty drink, or for a jewelry store that's high end enough you serve drinks to your customers but not something usable enough in the home to use regularly.

Melts in hot water

I bought these to make juice cubed for cocktails, but I wouldn't advise using them for any sweet/sticky juice - the cubes are cute, but you pretty much have to use hot water to get the sticky juice residue, and it's impossible to wash them more than once without them becoming misshapen because the trays semi-melt in hot water (and don't spring back to their original shape.) Great for water, just don't try to use oj.

Bought this product while on an exteneded business in St Paul, MN. Bought it of amazon because it was cheaper (than in museum stores or other online sites) and with free domestic shipping. Didn't use it until I get back to singapore 3 months later. It's kind of fun looking at big diamonds floating aroudn in your drink. The rubbery mold tray though tends to deform when kept in a non-horizontal or flat position. Luckily it does recover to its original shape after putting it flat and proper after a while. Think it may be due to the hot, humid tropical climate. Anyway, had fun making those jewel ice cubes and made my daughter very happy. like it alot.

Fun, but not the best quality

When I first received the tray in the mail I was a bit disappointed. The product did not appear to be in "new" quality--it had several cuts and markings on the tray and one of the corners was warped and seemed like a small chunk of it had been ripped out. The ice cube shapings themselves still work, however one of the jewel moldings in particular does not produce a clear shape at all (although it doesn't seem to be something as a result from the product condition, just the product itself).

Despite the tray itself not looking so good, the finished result is still a lot of fun and a good buy for the price!

could not make Ice cubes

When i bought this I figured it would be very girls and cute for when i have friends over. well the shape that some of the jewels are uneven and water pours out. also trying to get ice out of this is sooo frustrating. yes it is difference and when ice does come out of it they are what i expected but the process of making them and getting them out is horrible

It's a really cool mold!

It's a little tough getting the ice out & they can break coming out.

If you don't mind stretching the mold a lot to get your ice out then it's perfect.

I guess I have to write 20 words about this ite., but I bought this a s sticking stuffer and I don't really care how it is rated. If your freezer works and you can fill the tray with water then your in luck. This tray can make ice cubes. You can also freeze other fun liquids in the freezer. Such as orange juice. That way when you poor a full glass of vodka you can just drop a time orange ice cube in and not feel like as complete alcoholic.... Anyways, its 9:00 a.m. and I have to goto the liquor store now.

These never turn out very clear for me, but they are still pretty fun. The ice sticks tot he mold a bit though. Maybe that's something that will get better with use. I like the size of the cubes -- fantastic for bourbon but also great for mixed drinks or sodas.

This was for an engagement party, made the ice cubes to look like gemstones. They went over VERY well. The tray is small, 6 cubes, so be prepared to make quite a few trays worth. But very cute at this event!
