Love this alarm!!! I live in an apartment...its just me and my daughter..they don't allow us to have it wired with a security system (and it's really expensive to do so)...this alarm is perfect I put it on my back door and front. I bought some of the adhesive picture mounts and made a spot to hold it on the door..it is loud!! I read previous reviews that said it wasn't loud and those were wrong it is a very loud and piercing alarm! I have a two story townhouse with a back door to a big open spot that's really dark and always woke up to double check the locks till I bought this! I can hear it perfectly upstairs (I tested it when my neighbors were out..made their dogs crazy lol)..previous reviews say u need a narrow slit in door frame I disagree mine is pretty wide and it still works perfectly..I'm in love with this!! I feel so much better sleeping at night (finally sleeping better) I would recommend this this to anyone living alone,single moms or dads (great alarm for toddler trying to get out) or just don't feel uneasy at home at night!! 5 stars u won't regret it!

Incredibly Easy to Use

I took these one an international trip staying at hotels, airbnb, etc. It worked with every door type that I tried it on and brought a nice feeling of security. It is not incredibly loud, but loud enough to wake you up if someone opens the door even if you are on a different floor. Very easy to use.

Good for prevention for wandering Alzeimers patient

I bought these for my parents. My mom has Alzeimers. She often wanders and sometimes tries to escape from home when we are not watching her every minute. This gives extra protection for her. We set it on when my dad is taking a nap.

Sleep easier at night

I tend to be a light sleeper at hotels or B&Bs because I'm just plain paranoid. I often wake up at night thinking I heard the door, even with my home security alarm. I saw this product and after reading reviews decided to give it a try for my summer travel this year. I'm so glad I did! Even my family thanked me for bringing this along because everyone felt like they could sleep easier and they knew that I was more relaxed as well. It works very simply and we tested it out and it worked. It's easy to slip the sensor into any door gap. If someone jiggles the door and makes it fall out, or opens the door, the alarm will sound. When you test it, the alarm seems simple if not quiet at first, but after a few "beeps" it feels like your brain will explode because it's so loud and high-pitch. I can't imagine how you'd sleep through it! I also like it for at home when I'm in the shower, I can put it in the door and know if my kids come home without setting off the home alarm system. Very simple, compact, and brilliant. I wouldn't travel without it anymore.

First, thank God for idiot videos! I could not figure out where the wedge was, duh. I think in a hotel room this should be enough sound to eventually hear it. Could it be louder? Yes, especially if you are a sound sleeper. It does sound like a bird on steroids. Not a screamer, unlikely anyone in the room next to you could hear it. Better than traveling alone with nothing. I will purchase two additional batteries as some reviews said they croaked shortly after use.

Some people have asked about using it for a house situation. Unless you live in a really, really small house, the loudness or lack thereof I cannot see helping. If you were sleeping in your living room and your front door opened I could see it working. Other reviews said there were different amounts of sound put out when they purchased more than one. I have no idea if that has to do with battery strength since I don't understand those types of things.

Nice simple piercing alarm.

Very simple device to use, should do the trick. Their are two spring steel blades that are stored in the device when not in use.To use simply hang the alarm on the doorknob,slide the blades out of the device and slip them into the area between the closed door and the door jamb,when the door is opened the blades fall out of that space, setting off the alarm. Our doors had a larger than normal gap and I wanted a nice snug fit for the blades so I just used some glued some small wood shims to the door jamb and waalaa, perfect fit and don't have to worry the blades will fall out by themselves.

This works by a micro switch inside the sending unit that fits inside the alarm when not in use. The metal 'paddles' do not have to be in contact to complete the circuit. This means it will work anywhere you can get the two 'paddles' to stay close enough together not to close the switch. The 'paddles' are 1 and 3/8 inches long and near attached at the switch end. On the one I am looking at, the circuit is still open (alarm does not go off) at 5/8 inch, but does any wider. The design is simple ( I think); alarm, normally open switch, speaker and battery. In some cases, the switch will support the weight of the entire affair; at others the weight of the alarm must be supported independently. Where the whole paddles fit between the door and frame, I can place the alarm and let it hang. On the other side of the door, no, so I support the weight on the door knob.. I can get it to work on our sliding door by supporting the weight of the alarm on the handle.

Loud? Yes. I have a lot of hearing loss, as little as none at low frequency and as much as 100db at high, but I can hear this, which seems fairly high. The only real questions are battery life and durability of the alarm. My wife has dementia and has been known to wander, so I let an alarm hang on the inside of the door (fully inserted between door and frame). On one occasion, the fall onto carpeted cement floor resulted in the batteries coming loose from the unit, I remedied this with a rubber band, which does not cover the speaker,

The question of battery life has yet to be determined, though in a couple weeks of a lot of use none have failed, . I think it wilI be good, but I will use the flashlight function only to test the battery; the unit has no charge indicator.

Super Easy to Install and Come with Everything You Need - SUPER LOUD !!

These little alarms are easy to install and are SUPER loud. I set one off by accident and thought I was going to give myself hearing damage!

The batteries in these come preinstalled. You uncoil the string loop that you hang around the door knob, then put the metal prong in the door crack (the metal prong is inside the alarm - you will see where to pull it out from the end with the string loop). Then pull the battery cover off and pull the plastic out so the batteries make contact. When you put the battery cover back on, if you are holding the prong (like I was on the first one), the alarm will go off and scare the daylights out of you.

The biggest disadvantage I find for these little alarms is that you must remove the battery cover and pull out at least one of the two button batteries to disarm it, which means you must reassemble it all to re-arm it again later. I would prefer an on/off switch, and this is what kept me from ordering more of these. Other than that, they're really good for this price.

I like these little door alarms.. They are super easy and come with everything you need whether you are at home or on the road. I am definitely going to check out the other items Doberman Security has on Amazon.

These would be very good for anyone who travels, because you can take them with you.

These are very versatile alarms. Really could be used anywhere. Most use them on a door knob. Would be great if you are staying in a hotel. I put a small screw near the top of my doors and use them as a door alarm. ( I had to put the up higher because my cats would mess with them at the door knob height) No one can open the door without the alarm going off. One small battery, no worries if the power goes out. Inexpensive and with a little creativity you can use them anywhere. I also got the doberman motion alarm. Nice also.
