A lifesaver once you get the hang of the process!!by Amazon Customer (4 out of 5 stars)

My son has severe autism and is non verbal. We struggle often giving him medication because he doesn't know how to swallow pills and have to hide his pills in food. This cup was recommended by his developmental pediatrician from Kennedy Krieger. It takes some getting used to but once you get the hang of it it's a lifesaver. The trick is that you can't put too much liquid in the cup and you have to slightly tilt your child's head back when he or she drinks from the top otherwise the pill will still be in the top of the cup. Also, you cannot get the pill wet before using the cup and you need to make sure the cup is dry on the outside including the top part of the cup. It's also important to note that it won't work on pills that are super small or super large.
Didn't help our autistic 6 y/o learn to swallow pills, but I see how it could help some

We have a 6 y/o boy with autism and ADHD and we're just starting on our medication journey. I bought this cup to help him learn to swallow Concerta (a small stimulant medication). We tried several times with no success. The thing is you have to actually tilt your head back quite far, put your whole mouth over the large spout and get the pill down on the first try or it will not work. This is a very unnatural way of drinking and therefore was not something my son was able to do successfully. The cup and its contents ended up being flung across the room in frustration almost every time, and this after I had to dry off the pill grate and the pill itself to try again (because if either get wet then the pill just sticks to the cup and won't go down). We ended up having much more success with me physically putting the pill in his mouth after coaching him that he could not bite or chew it and immediately putting his normal cup to his mouth to drink. I find if I do this first thing in the morning when he's thirsty for milk, he chugs and chugs and it goes down without a hitch. The first week it required a LOT of bribery (much like potty training) of surprises and rewards for big boys who swallow their pills, and within a week he had it down. He still doesn't like to do it but it goes down on the first try every time! That little cup hasn't been touched since. I think it is very thoughtfully and well designed and definitely could help adults and children who can be coached on how to do it properly (which is why I gave it 3 stars), but for our son it was just too unnatural and made the whole thing more stressful and difficult. I also think it's a little overpriced. For those of you in our situation, we practiced swallowing fruity tic tacs without chewing them first and then moved on to the pill. We always use whole milk as the thick texture and creamy taste help mask the feel and texture of the pill itself. I'm so relieved that we're finally swallowing pills now as I was worried it would never happen! I really hope this helps someone else as we were pretty desperate too!
Good product, but it is not for everyone

I bought this product because of my difficulty swallowing pills. It was initially frustrating as I was only able to successfully swallow a small percentage of my pills using this cup. I realized that only using it when I needed to take pills was a recipe for disaster as the stress of that situation would not allow me to get sufficiently relaxed for me to actually get used to the process. Instead, I began to practice using small candies and even though it took several months of daily work, I am now basically one hundred percent successful in swallowing pills using the cup.
My takeaway is that it is not an instant fix and it will not work for everyone, but I think that it can be a useful aid for those willing and able to practice. Obviously, practice may not make the cup work for everyone, but it worked for me. At this price, it is worth trying if you have difficulty swallowing pills.
This cup allows him to swallow the pill easily with one gulp of water

This cup has been a lifesaver! My son is 8 and has cancer. One of the medications he has to take only comes in a pill form that cannot be crushed. It was very hard for him to put in his mouth and then swallow with water. This cup allows him to swallow the pill easily with one gulp of water. We have recommended this product to the pharmacist at the hospital to have on hand for other kids who have trouble swallowing pills. You do have to use a paper towel to dry out the spout between pills so it does not stick. Thank you for making this process so much easier for him!
Works well - Just be careful not to get the pill wet

Worked perfectly for my son with mild anxiety about swallowing pills. **One thing to really pay attention to is that many pills will stick to the "grate" that holds the pill in the lid if they get wet. Many pill coatings become sticky if they get wet. So, you need to be careful to not splash the water around and get the pill wet before you drink it. I fill it up maybe 1/2 way and tell my son to make sure that he tips his head back and just focuses on drinking the water quickly in one motion. Most of the time he doesn't even feel the pill.
Worked great for us!

My 9 year old son was diagnosed with a serious medical condition where only a pill medicine was prescribed. He had to learn to swallow a pill very quickly. We tried different methods for over a week with no success. After two days with the cup, he was swallowing his small capsule perfectly. He couldn't do it at first. So we had him just occasionally drink from the cup to get accustomed to it, and no pressure. We added the pill later that day. By the end of the next day, he could do it. So happy with this product. Buying a second for back up and travel.
and it works like a charm

I am in my 50s and could only swallow small pills. Imagine my horror when I started to have to take 4 potassium (big) pills a day! Tried everything, including the water bottle trick. Nothing worked. Bought this cup, and it works like a charm. Only since I have to take two pills at a time and the second pill would get stuck from water being in the top part already from the first pill, now I put the pill in my mouth and just drink from the cup. I think the angle of the top part works like a charm. I have taken this cup with me on vacation to make sure I take my pills. Love it!
witch i recommend doing so you know it works

When I bought this product I was expecting something different. The cup is smaller than I expected it to be. As you can see the picture of the cup compared to my phone. Other than that the cup seemed to look different than the picture. My daughter has not used the cup yet on real pills yet, but she has practiced on mini M&Ms, witch i recommend doing so you know it works, before trying the real thing.
Amazing and easy and most importantly it works

My daughter has been unable to take pills. Since she has a chronic disease the ability to take medication in pill form is a necessity. This pill cup has literally been a lifesaver for our daughter and family. No longer do we have to crush or dissolve the meds into yogurt or other less than effective methods. Thank you from the bottom of our heart for your amazing invention.

I've got one teenage daughter who can't swallow pills. Her older and younger sisters both learned with little effort, but every kid is different. She struggles. Someone told her this cup would be a game-changer. It wasn't. I'm sure it works for some people, but not her. The shipping cost was high, too, and it took a week to arrive.
