Campsgiving Sucess!by Alison Faiella (5 out of 5 stars)

I bought this for "Campsgiving" with the full intent of roasting a 10 lb turkey over a campfire, and I can happily report it did not disappoint! I was impressed that the thumbscrews that hold the rotisserie in place held, it was easy to assemble and disassemble to store, and easy to rotate the bird once it was in place. I used the grill for bacon wrapped green beans and the next night I used it to roast popcorn in a Dutch oven. There is ample space on the grill, and I figured if worse came to worse and the turkey wasn't cooking on the rotisserie I could split it and put it on the grill, but I didn't have to do that. I highly recommend this grill!
Nice grate for camping

This is just what I needed for our campsite. It's a great size and sturdy enough to hold a 6-qt dutch oven with ease. I didn't install the rotisserie portion, as I do not plan to cook this way, but the grate and the hooks to hold utensils, etc. were just what I was looking for. I'd give this a 5-star rating, but I found it somewhat cumbersome to adjust the grate level with food on it (or that might've just been the smoke in my eyes...). We were also concerned that some parts might be missing, as everything was open and rolling around in the box (nothing in baggies, wrapped in plastic or cardboard trays), but it was complete. Overall, we're very happy with the purchase.
Perfect for the iron chef in your family

I use a lot of iron and enjoyed using it with this product. I recommend starting your food right off the bat while your flames are at their highest to insure a thorough cook through. I Saved plenty of propane using this. It really is meant for a camper.😉
The legs/stands are very weak!

Unpacked it, assembled it and put a 10 in cast iron pan on it and it was off balance. I put a 1/2 gallon water jug on the hook and the legs/stand leaned to one side. I did the same with the grate and the thing leaned to one side. I thought it was going to break. In fairness, this is a decent unit, but the legs are too weak to support any weight. If you pound metal rods or rebar into the ground you can tie the legs to that and it would be usable. I returned this one!
Our group may glamp but we are pretty serious about cooking over the campfire

We purchased this cooking grill along with our new travel trailer roughly a year ago. We have a large group of friends with whome we regularly camp. We've produced a lot of children along the way and they consume a lot of food while camping. Our group may be a bit lax in the roughing-it camping accommodations but we are pretty serious about camping over the campfire rather than ordering out. It's just something we like to do.
I first tried this grill out in June of last year while camping along Lake Superior. It met *almost* every need required for our cooking style. We roasted a trio of chickens on the spit, it was sturdy enough to hold my large and heavy cast iron skillet with 3 pounds of bacon. Steaks, brauts, whatever *thumbs up*.
There were only two shortfalls.
1. The surface area... we just needed more cook space because we are often grilling for two dozen. This problem was easily solved through a bit of engineering, however. One of the families we camp with loved the grill so much, they bought one too. We then were push re-bar rods through the two horizonal square channel feet and combine the two grills into a super-grill. We were further able to place a round grill grate fastened to another piece of iron rod and placed it on top using the vertical square channel as a holder for the rod. See included photo of Voltron Grill.
2. I wish the welds between the cooking grate and it's attachment bracket were a little stronger. One of the kids took a tumble onto our grill and it snapped at the weld :/ However, as a vote of confidence in the product I'm buying another.
Excellent outdoor grill

Excellent outdoor grill. I have taken this grill on several camping trips and it has worked great. Just build a fire, put this over the top, and within an hour you are ready to cook away. I have not tried the rotisserie part of this yet, but the other functions are just as described. The swinging side arms are excellent for keeping food warm in pots until the main course is done. We had pork & beans in one pot, and corn in the other, which kept hot until the main course of steak was done.
I would definitely recommend to a friend or family member.
It works great.

Very happy with product. Yes the grate is painted, I just pre-burned it off and brushed it. Sprayed it down with cooking spray and it works great. Yes it is steel and you have maintenance with it. Like any out door cooking tool you have to take care of it. It is adjustable. Have not tried the spit yet.
Grilled Paint

The Texsport Grill is another "Near Miss" item whose concept was better than the execution. I like the idea; everybody likes the idea here. It is a bit wobbly when assembled, but I could get used to that. What I like best about it is how it can be disassembled into a very flat package for transport, yet is large enough to actually cook on, as opposed to some of the other fairly tiny arrangements I checked out. What I don't like about it is the swaying that occurs when you touch it, due to the lack of some kind of cross supports. I don't really think there is any danger of it collapsing and ruining your dinner, it just shakes around a lot.
The problem I have with it, (which has still not been addressed), is that there appears to be paint on the grilling surface, and the instructions do not in any way address how to handle this. It is quite a thick coating, and I would like to know the chemical makeup of this paint before I eat it, or at the least, have some direction as to how it is to be "seasoned" or burned off before use or what. I emailed the company about this and received an acknowledgement and a promise that they would get back to me and they never did. So until then, I have a grill I can't use. It really would only take a few sentences on the instruction sheet to cover this, or better yet, just don't paint the actual grill surface.
Take my money!

Got yesterday and made it a point to test out later that night in light of the number of vocal negative reviews. Have to say I'm impressed so far.
Assembly was pretty straight forward. One thing that bugged me is the two Eye bolts to secure the grill were easy to come out when transporting. Set it up at the office and wanted to see if it'd stay assembled on the way home. Doesn't stand up to travel well when assembled but really shouldn't be expected to. Easy fix would be to go to a hardware store and buy some threaded eye bolts and put a nut on the end of it. When stationary stays pretty stable for any usage it'd be designed for and very unlikely to have issues with the supplied hardware.
No carrying case is a bummer but I'm keeping the cardboard box it came in for transportation.
I cooked four hamburgers directly on the grill with a pretty hot fire. When camping and after a few drinks I tend to get the fire roaring and glass melting hot so I wanted to make sure I wouldn't have any trouble with this and the grill if it so happened needed to be over the fire after that happened. Instructions say that the grill is best used over embers at about 6". Rotisserie is recommended to do first while the flames are going at about a foot if I recall. My firepit is a little over sized and so I stuck it on the inside of the bricks and fit perfectly. While sitting alongside the embers and over the flames there was no paint peeling or noticeable damage of any kind. The rotisserie handle stayed pretty cool and doesn't seem like I'll have a problem turning it while cooking. Handle is designed for four stationary positions rather than constant rotation. Burgers came off the grill with no paint peeling up and grill still looking in great shape, no change from when I unpackaged it. The grill does get messy when cooking directly on the grate though, so a disposable grilling mat or tin foil would be great if you're the kind to keep things neat. I'm looking forward to testing the pot holders as that's where I see it's potential weakness but haven't had a chance to yet. If it can boil a gallon of water and hold the weight well, I can't imagine needing it to do anything else. I'll be cooking a turkey on the rotisserie this weekend as well to see how that does.
Seems to be a great buy!
Love it!

I bought this for my husband as a birthday gift and we love it! We spend a lot of time outside and love cooking over our firepits, so this is perfect for us. It's a little more "wobbly" than I thought it would be. I was expecting it to be more sturdy, but it should still work well for us, hopefully for a long time. I probably wouldn't have paid as much for it if I had seen it in person, because really, there's not much to it for what you pay. In my opinion, it should be more in the $35 range, but I think I paid over $50. I tracked the price on Amazon for a while and it was all over the place. Unfortunately when it was time for me to buy it, it wasn't as low as it had been in the past, but oh well.
