I wasn't sure to expect but this is pretty cool.
Seems very sturdy. Threads seem very solid as well so opening the battery and filter sections are easy and they lock into place firmly.
Bulb
- the original bulb is quick weak it emits a dull light
(also comes with a spare bulb)
- upgraded the with a 74 lume LED bulb (much improved output)
Water seals at both ends
- Battery compartment has an O-ring seal
- Emitter end has TWO O-rings - one at the lens and one behind the bulb compartment.
Switch
- Old timey switch - won't turn on by accident
- Button switch for messaging out morse code
- I am uncertain if this is sealed internally - you can't look into / under the switch to see if it's sealed or not.
Filter Lenses ( secured at the end in it's own compartment )
These are easily applied by simply removing (unscrewing) the filter around the emitter
- Red
- Blue

I bought another Rothco gi angle light, and it was a typical Chinamart copy. It worked, but was not of the same build quality I remember from the late 80's. This one has FULTON - MADE IN THE USA stamped into the side. The only complaint is the bulb was a dud, and burned out immediately after I turned it on. For me this was not a big deal, as I have an led replacement bulb for an upgrade. If this is not the real deal it is an extremely good copy.
Just like I remember. The real deal.

This was exactly like my old one issued to me in the army. Even stamped with MOS Id. Yep switch is hard at first just like I remember. It's perfect. Like others I ordered an led replacement bulb which looks brighter but is not in reality. At 40 yards the LED doesn't reflect on cars. However with the incandescent old school bulbs reflectors light up at 100 yards. I like the old school feel also. Remember this light went thru millions of dollars and hours of research before the Army made it our official issue. Perfect
I highly recommend going out and spending a few more dollars on ...

Ah the classic Rothco Anglehead light. I had one as a kid that I had purchased from a surplus store. Took it everywhere and it held up. I had one complaint with this light. Brightness, or rather a lack there of. It tend to give a fairly tight spot of illumination, but the bulb that comes with it is a very weak, yellow light that for me, just didn't cut it. I highly recommend going out and spending a few more dollars on an LED replacement bulb for this light. With that in place, the brightness is wonderful, with all of the same feel and tried and true functionality as you can expect from this style of flashlight. It doesn't hurt that an LED bulb will also be more impact resistant and your batteries will last far longer as well.
Well made item that is just like the original

I ordered two of these as gifts for kids. They are very well made and have stood up to the abuse the kids have dished out. An extra bulb is included under the main battery spring. These OD Green models were marked 'FULTON - MADE IN USA' and also "U.S. MX-991/U".
This flashlight uses a bulb style that is exactly like 2D Maglights. That means you can upgrade this to a 2D/3D Maglite LED bulb for less than $10. Or check out the TerraLUX 140-lumen LED for less than $15 sometimes! ASIN B001I9TI4Q.
Unlike many flashlights in this $10 price range, this one actually works when you need it to and can be counted on for years.
The switch is durable and dependable. It is guarded from accidental movement and from damage by a rugged and large physical guard on either side. The switch is further guarded from accidental movement because it is a stiff switch with detents. You can put this flashlight in a bag of gear and not worry that you'll later find it drained of power because it was accidentally turned on. The switch has detents for these three modes of operation:
1) Safety - prevents accidental illumination. Useful behind enemy lines :)
2) Momentary on by use of a button. Useful for signaling. Print out a morse code chart for the kids and they will have fun.
3) Always on. Useful for when you need the light to always be on :)
Every kid should have one of these at some point. At this price it's a no-brainer.
Could do with a user manual for idiots like me.

The lamp is a bit weak and I don't know how to replace it. I'd like to put an LED in because some people in the reviews said it was possible, but it doesn't seem all that simple in hindsight. There's a spare bulb inside the housing, but I don't even know how to take it out lol. I guess for ex-military people this stuff may be self-explanatory, but it's not for me. I wouldn't have minded a small user manual to learn how everything works.
Also, I somehow thought the housing would be made out of aluminum but it's just plastic. Looks sturdy enough though.
Missing an o-ring to keep it waterproof

It seems to be the same type I had in the army, but the one i got is missing one of the o-rings that keep it waterproof (where the lamp connects to the handle). Also a little disappointed it only came with blue and red lens and no diffuser, but that was advertised.
At Last A RELIABLE Flashlight

I grew tired of buying flashlights that only last 1-6 months . A flashlight is such a simple device and yet they are made so cheaply . I bought two of these then bought a few more, two for my summer home, one for my car etc. There are brighter flashlights with LEDs that,in my experience, did not last well. These are the same FULTON Made In USA flashlights used by our military .. they are heavier than the average flashlight, but they are solid and durable. I dropped one by accident on the hard floor and it still works ! They have a spare bulb in the handle as well. I threw most of my other flashlights away but two flashlights that I kept and those are 50+ years old and that was when all flashlights were made well. These military flashlights are a bit heavy, but they will last.
Just like old times!

There is a reason the Army (among others) uses this sort of flashlight. By putting the reflector at 90° to the batteries, it makes for a more stable light when held and can be clipped to a belt or shirt pocket or whatever and shine light where it's needed, rather up in your face.
Construction is excellent and it has all the diffusers and color filters that were advertised as coming with it.
As a personal thing, I put a LED lamp in place of the Krypton bulb supplied (the spare is still in the cap) and wow, does it light things up!
Totally happy with it and I have already used it for about three hours without a single bobble or problem. I may get another.
Wanted D cell...

Ad said D cell,so I ordered two of them & got C cells, seems to be a common problem with this item, which kinda sucks, but even @ that these are'nt necessarily the worst flashlights out there, and it's not like they're super expensive either,so I just kept them and use them regularly. But come on now,if the ad says D cell, that's what we should be getting.
