Great little contraptionby Amber (4 out of 5 stars)

This little plastic thing peeled 31 apples in no time. I was very happy with it. I did have a couple oddly shaped bumpy apples that it fought with, but for the price I think I can peel an apple or two with a hand peeler. I didn't want to push it too hard and break it. It saved me so much time making pies.

This thing works really well; it's fast and the peel is thin so it's not wasting any apple. And did I mention that it's fast? Yep, FAST. You can clean it easily - just make sure not to submerge it in water and it won't get moisture inside. There are 2 extra peeling blades included. The bonus slicer is sharp and made quick work of coring and slicing the newly peeled apple. And there's a bonus corer *only* tool that allows you to core the apple without slicing it, which could make for a lot of fun presentation scenarios to play with. There's a lot of bang for your buck here and I'm really glad I purchased it. I like it SO much better than the horizontal style peeler/corer/slicer that I had been using; it just sliced too thin to make good apple pies and crumbles, it wasn't nearly as fast and took longer to set up than the Starfrit. The Starfrit 93013 Pro-Apple Peeler with bonus corer/slicer gets my official "Cool Tool Stamp of Approval"!

I thought that I wrote a review of this thing last year when I got one for my wife as a present. I guess I forgot....
In short, this thing works great. My wife loves it...see the video for proof of that:-)
She just used it a few days ago to peel not only apples but a large bag of small potatoes. Saved a ton of time.
I would say that you need to be careful of the blade and the sharp prongs that stick into whatever you are peeling.
Best kitchen gadget ever:-)
Works great for "basic" home use

I have been absolutely amazed with this set. I was kind of hesitant to purchase, thinking that at such a low price (right under twelve bucks) that it might just break the first time I used it. . . but not so. . . It's really worked quite well for my needs. There are a few things you need to know. . .
First of all, this is not for "industrial" use, as you probably can tell. But I've been ordering ten-pounds of apples each week from a local farmer to dry, and it's worked really great for my "basic" needs.
There are four "spikes" you place the apple onto. You turn the crank and it turns the apple around as the spring-loaded blade cuts-off the peel. Note that you need to continue to turn in a clockwise motion and the blade will lift-up off the apple and keep going around. After the blade is up, off and away from the apple, you can remove the apple. Note that care should be taken so that you lift the apple up and keep your hand away from the blade.
This "set" comes with a corer / slicer which is not shown in the picture. The corer / slicer that I received is a fairly heavy-duty model as well. Note that it all depends upon the size shape of your apples. . . but. . I find that this peeler usually does not remove the peel on the very bottom of the apple, so I have to use a knife to manually remove it, which I don't mind. Then when I use the corer / slicer, it will go right through to the bottom with no problem.
The peeler also comes with a couple of replacement blades.
Peeling apples? Meet the best peeler ever!

omgomgomg!! This peeler looks like a clunky little toy but boy does it work! I've been making apple pies lately and was using the peeler attachment for my stand mixer. I was really not at all happy with the thickeness of the peel - I was losing a ton of fruit and I am just not okay with that. So - I thought I'd see if the non-motorized peelers were better - and then I ran across this little gem.
I was impressed by the photos of the peel coming off - there was hardly any apple meat. And it was all of 12 bucks - so nothing really to lose and I ordered it.
It cuts a wider peel than the more usual sort of metal peelers - so it is FAST. It would sometimes skip a little - but a quick swipe of a paring knife made that go away. My apple were pretty asymmetrical but it still did a great job. It looks like it would handle a wide variety of sizes of apples - mine were pretty much medium but the swing of the blade would clearly accommodate larger fruit. The suction cups held the peeler in place, however I found I liked to stabilize it with my non-turning hand to keep it a bit more steady.
Mine came with an apple corer/slicer included. It also worked fine, but I wasn't crazy about the size of the core (too big for me) so I cut and cored by hand. This was by far the slowest step in my process. Then I hit on using my stand mixer attachment to do that job. I liked the thickness of the hand cored slices, but speed won out - and the mixer attachment takes a much smaller core than the included corer.
Assembly consisted of pushing the robust plastic handle into a receptor and uncovering the blade guard and the fruit spikes. Disassembly was just as complex. I could have just left the handle on but I like to keep things in boxes.
I could not recommend this peeler more highly. You won't regret this purchase.

This is a really neat product. It is super easy to use. My 4 year old and 2 year old love turning the crank. It peals apples very good. It does an ok job with pears as long as the pear is firm and is not too abnormally shaped. We peeled a bushel of pears with it, and we had to do additional trimming or peeling by hand on about 70% of them (we only had 1 apple to try and it peeled perfectly), but it did make the job faster and easier even with the pears. The peel comes off very thin. The corer/slicer was also nice and helped to move the job along. The only negative that I can see is that it does trap water when you wash it, even when it isn't submerged. It does dry out eventually, but it has to be left out longer than I would like to get fully dry. The product is all plastic besides the spring and the blade, so it doesn't feel as sturdy as the traditional models (however, I don't think there is much chance of it rusting). However, I think the closer peel you get and the ease of turning the crank outweighs any negatives of it being made this way. I would highly recommend it. We may even purchase more of these for gifts.
Works very well to peel round apples

I bought this because of all the great reviews and it does work, but not for all apples. I works easily; kids can do it.
Let me say that this is an apple PEELER ONLY. You get 3 different items in the box. The corer is another tool entirely that comes in the box with the peeler but is independent of the unit. The slicer is a third tool It is the same slicer your gramma had (set the apple on the table, put the gizmo on top, push down, voila, 8 pieces of apple with the core standing in the middle. The peeler itself works great on round(ish) apples - granny smith or rome or gala. 3 seconds to peeled - So, if ALL you want to do is peel roundish apples, get this one. If WONDERFUL. I peel, my husband cores, I slice them on the mandolin for the dehydrator. It's a OK process; not a miracle.
It works POORLY on apples that are more pear shaped with points on the blossom end (like a red delicious) this does not work well at all on them.
I debated on getting this vs the other peeler that you clamp on a table and can peel and slice and core all at once and can use on potatoes and turnips and whatever. I will probably not use so much as it does not meet my needs very well.
I wish I had purchased the other kind. In fact, I am going to get the other type now and let the kids use this thing so they can feel helpful when I have round apples to peel. I don't hate it exactly, but no, I would NOT buy this again.
STARFRIT vs OTHER PEELERS

For those in doubt about the Traditional Peelers X Starfrit
1) The cut is more clean (looks better) with the Starfrit wasting less fruit and also making a less deep blade canal in the fruit.
2) Our time to peel Big Apples : 3 SECONDS... NO KIDDING !!!
2) No matter if big or small the apple gets wonderfully done. Only about 20% of the times you may need a small knife retouch the 1/2 inch in the bottom (there it go 3 more seconds for every 5 apples... shame on you Starfrit)
3) Many people complain about the Toy look, but this actually is a bonus... The wheels spinning on the transparent cover are a lot of fun and kids are crazy about it, bagging for doing it. My son and nephew both started to eat apples only after using the Starfrit and getting hooked with it. Now they even agree on changing candy for apples in the market.
4) You cannot find replacements blades at a decent price or order more of them together with the Peeler. Each blade will last you from 3 months to 1 year depending on your use and cleaning (this is why only 4 stars)... Guys start selling it and I will upgrade it immediately
5) Does not do any Pears or Potatoes, but for Apples of all kinds is unbeatable
6) The main tool does not core or slice, the extra gadget do this, so you will wast 5 more seconds to do it.
7) YOU WILL GET FAT !!!
It only takes a few seconds to peel an Apple

You've seen the infomercials and commercials that show people doing average daily things like for example peeling a potato, and they're so incompetent that they dropped the potato and they get potato peel all over the place. Well, that's me when I'm peeling a potato or an apple. Especially apples.
I've been making applesauce a lot more than I normally do, and peeling apples with a regular potato peeler is difficult. I wanted one of these for years but I thought they were harder and took too much of the Apple with the peel. I'm glad that I found this. It literally takes 2 or 3 seconds to peel an apple and it barely takes any of the Apple. I looked at the peel and it's mostly just skin and a very tiny amount of the Apple. I love that. I'll be making applesauce a lot more often now that I have this.
I'm making apple butter for the first time using 20 apples. Can you imagine me trying to peel 20 apples with a potato peeler? It literally only took me 5 minutes to peel 20 apples. This is probably the best $10 I've ever spent.
Maybe now that I have this I'll start baking Apple pies. Mmmm pie.
Great Design!

I use to have an antique apple peeler that peeled and cored the apple without sliceing it. No added attachments, just put the apple on and crank. Apparently that technology has been lost along with my apple peeler. How ever this unit works great and it comes with a corer slicer as a bonus. Very smooth operation with easy cranking. The corer/ slicer works well also. Yes it is plastic. Don't be discouraged, it is high quality and sturdy and made well. Takes up very little space and is very stable with 4 suction cup feet with quick release tabs. No need to mention price, it is about the lowest out there.
